The "Regionals" link is near the top right of the main site in relatively small print next to a bunch of other little gateways. :)

Thanks Ratty, nice to meet you. I am further south, SLO County. I do know a couple of people from the area that come, they are the ones that actually reignited my interest now that family and career are not issues. So Ratty from threads I have read I have a couple of questions for you. 1. How are you liking the Sienna, does it work well at BR???? and 2. Did you take the Circus Tent this year????, the last post I saw showed pics without the top but it was prior to going. Also love the outfits you put together.

Savannah, I did actually try to get ahold of the regional person here awhile back but never heard from them, will put it back on my list, thanks.

The Sienna is perfect. The day I bought it I had them remove the middle seats and the hardware that prevented me from having a flat surface in back. I sold the seats. I sleep in it with the back hatch open. If it's windy I have a fleece curtain to leave the side door open. It has plenty of room for all the stuff I lug to the desert. (The Honda has a bumpy cargo floor and not as big.) I love it.

The circus tent came out great but isn't practical for Burning Man. I don't want to sit in an enclosed area. The top would take off in the breeze and pull the entire thing apart. I can use it for the local festivals in the park. I HAD to build it once I thought of the design. Thanks for asking.

Sorry to hear there was no response. If it was right before or right after the Burn it's especially hard making contact because everyone is either 1) busy, or 2) exhausted. Some regions are just low in Burner population and so attending events one state over, or in states you'll drive through can sometimes help.

Try Facebook/Google too, in different combinations.

Thank you Mojojita, please do let me know when you have functions, if you would. Wow Lompoc, spent some freezing cold, windy, foggy times down there at soccer tournaments, and back when my son played, football and baseball games. Used to have a really good friend that lived down there on the road to Buelton. Glad you're so close. Just got back from Costco where I saw in the flesh, er box, the famous Costco Carport. starts making things more real and not so much just in my head. Wonderful Elliot has consented to loan me a bike. Slowly ticking away at the very long list.

Postby Odisej » Wed Dec 04, 2013 4:42 pm

Hi, everyone!

My name is Milan Prša, I'm a 35 year old musician from Croatia who stumbled upon Burning Man online couple of years ago, while I had a well payed job in a big insurance company. I was going through a challenging time in my life, questioning all the big choices I've made up to that point. My wife and I have just had a beautiful baby boy and, honestly, I felt as if I tricked the little fellow into a world without future. All we could see around us was the old Ratrace: money, money, money, money... Deep inside I knew it was wrong because I was raised differently. But the world has changed a lot since the 80's. Now it's all full of irresponsible credit card holders who trade their beauty and time for a surogat online life or a supporting role in a soulless soap-opera we call the Modern Civilization. I thought that I was one of the last survivors who appreciated things that don't come with a price tag.

That's when I found out about Black Rock City. And it didn't click right away. Mostly because, in the beginning, I felt it was just a one-week SF utopia, not so different from a lot of summer festivals out there. But as time passed by, I found myself exploring more and more about Burning Man, and at the same time slowly turning my life around, bit by bit. I quit my job, pursued a career in music, distanced myself from shiny lights of modern capitaism and re-evaluated my position in the world.

I realised that no amount of money will buy a smiling father to my son. I started to change the world around me by changing my ways, one step at a time. So, here I am, ready to open up a new chapter in my life, ready to share my love, knowledge and ideas with you, guys.

And I want to start my experience on ePlaya by thanking each one of you, from Larry and the first burn on that Pacific beach to the guy who cleaned up the last bit of MOOP this year for contributing.

You are all responsible for releasing a troubled soul from its cage half a world away. Thank you.

Welcome, Milan!

That's quite an introduction! Sure hope this silly picnic in the desert does not cause you and your family to starve!

But yes, there are "alternative" ideas to be explored.

Hello, Milan! You're quite a poet. Welcome to the board. I feel as though we are destined to disappoint after all that . . . (ePlaya is more like the regular old Internet than the Burn itself) . . . but there's tons of information here.

The Burn is no utopia, but it can be a beautiful place for someone who is well-prepared and expects nothing in particular other than an interesting adventure.

Hi again.

Thanks for kind words. Don't worry, noone's starving. Although I'm not earning as much as I did before, I am using the resource of time more wisely.

Misha is the one who pointed out ePlaya to me. Untill now my knowledge of BM was limited to the Facebook page, Youtube videos, Tales from the Playa and Larry Harvey interviews. This forum has so far taught me a lot about the common burner culture, which is important for someone like me, who wants to become a part of the community.

I hope that, apart for this online interaction, I'll be able to see you all in BRC this coming year. But first I need to learn a lot about the practical aspects of the Burn and plan my visit carefully.

But even if I don't come to BRC in 2014, I'll burn a Man right here in Croatia, and I probably won't be alone, because there's at least a dozen people here in my hometown that are also 'infected' by the BM virus, and I'll keep spreading the word.

P.S.

Don't worry, I won't be dissapointed because of 2 reasons:
1. I learned never to have expectations, they just leave the doors open for misery, and
2. You already 'saved' me, what more can I ask for?

Hello from Sydney Australia

Postby Noddy75 » Mon Dec 23, 2013 1:21 pm

Hi Everyone,

My name is Paul I live in Sydney Australia and study film making at uni. I'm planning on attending my first burn in 2014. I'm looking to connect with other burners and travellers and get info on how to best prepare. I'm also looking to connect with other burners leaving from San Fransisco. I'm planning to arrive in SFO around 18 August then travel to black rock city from there. I am also looking to source a lightweight bmx bike bike to use as transport around the playa. By bmx I mean the lightweight bike type not a dirt motor bike

Hi, I'm Jim. After years of moving around and trying different locations on for size, I have dropped anchor in Spokane, Washington. And after promising myself for nearly 20 years that I would get to Burning Man, 2014 is the year!

I've been a drummer since I was a youngster, playing in everything from full orchestras, to rock and jazz bands, to local drumming circles. I'm planning to bring a variety of drums with me to the playa, and can't wait to meet some fellow percussionauts!

Just what we need...more frickin' drums! I'm just joking with ya Jim...the Playa is so cacophonistic that the drums will just blend in. Welcome!

Hi from the north shore of Lake Erie!

My wife and I have been interested in Burning Man for a couple of years (from first reading of it) and had planned to participate in the summer of 2017. That was then ...

After some significant events of recent, we have come to realization that the time is right ... now. We have been reading and watching and drinking wine and reading and making lists and drinking wine ... very pumped, a little nervous, and totally hopeful that we can get tickets!

Cheers to everyone!

Ted
