Happy Birthday, Ygmir!

I shall contribute a bottle tonight in honor of you and in honor of the vicious wild animal that attacked my car this morning on my way into work.
Image

Damn thing kept jumping in front of cars and pecking at the tires. Chased my car for a half a block by the time I got around the randy bastard.

I'm not sure that Yggy wants a nice boy in Lederhosen playing an Alipinehorn.

what a nice day!! thanks all for the kind thoughts! went to the Hof with my daughter, nice day and nice ride.
of course, we come back to news from her flat mates that one of the bedrooms (thankfully not hers) has bedbugs.........jeebus!! that condo is only 2 years old!! Anyway, now to find an exterminator. The Property manager said "their person" charges 600 bucks to treat one room........that seems awfully high!! dang.

I always thought my corkscrew looked like The Man too, but now when I uncork a bottle I think of the Burn and you, since you're the only person who ever mentioned it when I was around.

Yggy, love the pix. 8) But bedbugs are a terrible scourge. :? Not sure they can be confined to a single room. And yes they are hideously expensive and difficult to kill. It might be cheaper to throw everything away than to rely on teenagers to carefully clean and segregate their belongings.

Your daughter's first move away from home has been quite an adventure, huh? I bet she is learning lots more than she thought she would! :P

+1 to what MDF and AntiM said. I'm not sure it's possible to keep them contained to just one bed in the house. I've always known of them to be a "move... leave the bed and other furniture with cushions behind" kind of thing. Have 'em close the door to the daughter's room, nobody goes in til you or she gets there and get an exterminator in immediately. Yeah, it's spendy, but they're a nasty lot to deal with and it's a college town. Lots of kids from cities and towns all over, and lots of dense living situations with dorms and apartment shares and things. Fingers crossed for her.

Hooray for corking man! Or would that be corky man...? We "discovered" it years back, while working on the traditions of boozemas. We decorated for that wonderful holiday by getting one of those little mini fake xmas trees, hanging travel sized bottles of liquor from the branches, a little string of lights, and then put the wine opener on top like a little angel. Ah, traditions...

In other boozy news, I feel a sense of accomplishment yesterday over an alcohol purchase. Pandorra's become a fan of this specialty small-batch prosecco (italian bubbly). We got introduced to the stuff from a campmate a couple years back, and while it's not super spendy or anything, it turns out to be a small batch thing that's only available seasonally. Last year we tried to get some after the burn, but just didn't have any luck. This year I was better prepared - I'd worked to get the local wine shop connected with the right people so we could buy a couple cases from them for the playa. Knowing it would be going away soon, I gave them a ring a couple weeks back, and as luck would have it, they were able to get us another case. Huzzah!

You know how it is with a favorite drink on the playa... every time you have it anywhere else, it's that much more special once it's become a playa drink.

Who else has favorite playa drinks? Tell me about 'em, I wanna hear!

*wanders in, makes CCC*

yeah, we're dealing remotely with this, being 500 miles away.
The condo is only 2 years old, and no neighbors are reporting bugs (property mgr. asked). They think only a few came in on the one kids luggage, since he had stayed in some hotels for the week or so before moving in.
But jeebus!! 600 bucks to treat one room, 2K for the whole place!! criminy!! One room is chemical, twice. Whole house is "heat" treatment, where they raise the temp inside to 140 degrees all day, and periodically go in and turn mattresses, fluff clothing and closets and stuff, to get rid of "cool pockets". They of course suggest the whole house treatment.
dang this crap!! Big cities and humans..............

I guess warm climates like L.A. are becoming infested, and the research I've done suggests it's not going away.......I guess back to beds in cans of kerosene? I know that worked "back when", since they really only feed of sleeping people, and tend to live within 6' of a bed.
crap...........

2-3 beers, 1/2 cup vodka, 1 frozen lemonade (the kind in a cardboard tube) and ice. Kinda like a ghetto mimosa, very refreshing...Don't let the looks of it fool you, it's delicious!

I have an old can of DDT that says to saturate mattresses and bedding weekly for bedbugs on the back of the can, I wonder what kind of side effects that would cause for the occupant. Can't be good...they outlawed this stuff for a reason

IIRC, DDT was not so bad on mammals, it was making bird eggs thin and killing off eagles and such from no hatchlings.
