well now that sounds like it's right in my price range!!!! thanks for the suggestion. i'm going to have to track those down!

Hit the sporting goods section at Wally mart. Or if you want a bunch, try Amazon.

BTW, Based on my hunting experince here in the North I have tried every brand on the market - the Graber Mycoal brand is way better than any of their competitors by far.

If you hit Home Despot in the Spring they sometimes have them on the closeout racks, but that is rather hit or miss.
The ones that come in pairs are rated for 7 hours. The singles for 12 hours iirc.

They are air activated so to extend the life of them for more than one use, put them in a ziplock bag and squeeze as much air as possible out after use. When at my cabin I actually vacumn seal them but that proibably will not be possible on the playa.

Just do what I do and pee into an empty disposable water bottle, cap it, and leave that in your sleeping bag. Sometimes I'm really lucky and don't even need to use my own piss!

i'm like a lizard. i need to lay on a hot rock.

I'm the same way, lower body temp than normal..except now when the hot flashes come on. Odd, though, I don't tend to get really cold at the burn, even if it is really cold. Except for my first year, 2005. The first two nights were FREEZING! Like many layers of t-shirt, sweatshirt, multiple flannels and a parka. Ended up going to bed early just because it was warmer in my sleeping bag.

So, FIGJAM... if I build a FIGJAM cooler and pour boiling water in it, will it keep me warm?

That doesn't seem cold, that forecast seems PERFECT! Jacket & boots at night, panties during the day type of weather. :D

Like clocks, I'm a wuss when it comes to the cold. I found that ski socks and insulated leggings (with thin faux fur lining on the inside!) are AWESOME. Sometimes I'll bust out the ski gloves. In the tent at night, I sandwich myself between four thick blankets (the cheap ones at the border in Mexico are the best) and have a fan ready for the hot morning sun. Having a hot and hearty soup and a good whiskey for dinner helps too

Snuggling is the best way to keep warm, take advantage of losing all those silly social boundaries. Last year was the first time I huddled under blankets with men and women and all it meant was that we were cold, none of the social implications mattered.

Set your extra water containers in your vehicle (solar-oven). Let the sun heat them during the day. Set them inside your shelter for the night, off the ground.

See, this is why part of my shade strategy involves a Reflectix shell. It has the added bonus of reducing heat loss at night.

Poly Pro baby. It's all about the long undies. They pack down to nothing, but if it's cold, you'll be in heaven.

May I suggest also either a reflector blanket under the hammock, or a foam or fleece layer under you. Hammocks can be cold otherwise.

I am from Louisiana, and I cook for a living...The grill station clocks in at 125 on a slow night, most days here where I live it is 95-102 degrees this time of year. So im great with the heat, no problem. But this cold situation is buggin me now. Im doubting the local Wal-Mart will be stocking any thermal undies, or anything warm at all right now frankly. Oh well, its been time to dig out all the camping gear anyway.

I plan on pitching a tent underneath a monkey hut, possibly with my vehicle or companions hexayurt covering the open side. Will being under this somewhat enclosed situation offer any protection from the cold? I do have a propane powered heater, which of course requires ventilation, which is fresh (cold) air...Seems like a conundrum. I do have electric blankets, but how would one go about powering that on the playa?
