Any Ultramarathoners??

Postby 9ah » Fri Jun 14, 2013 9:24 am

Wondering if anyone else is running the 4th Annual 50k on Wednesday. I'm pretty excited to do it, even though that means no drinking for a week. :coffee:

Feel free to stop along the course and cheer, especially between 5-10am... It includes 4 7.4 mile loops out to the trash fence and along the Esplanade. Sounds fun, right?!?!?!

FOP in 70 or so days!!!

If I can pull my ass out of my tent while it's still going on in the morning, I'll cruise the course in MV, and offer assistance/cool vitalyte water to the pooped out runners.

If you roll out before 10am it's likely that most of us will still be running!

Question about this, do you need to participate in the entire ultra? Due to a heart issue I am unable to do more than 10k - half.

I actually just sold my bib for the Disney Half Challenge because I found Burning Man tickets finally:) So I would not mind getting my run in still:) Thank for info. :D

You don't need to finish. I haven't logged my longer runs yet so I'm just going to play it by feel on the morning. Cherie has been very responsive on the FB event page. Check it out, what's there to lose??

"My simple formula is to drink enough that you pee like you normally do," says Mark Morocco, a professor of emergency medicine at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.

"You see people outside running in this heat, and you think, 'Are they crazy?'" says Morocco. "And yes, I think they're a little bit crazy."

Thx Lemur.... Anyone attempting to run an ultra (or even a full/half) will HOPEFULLY know to hydrate or at least how their body functions.

Thankfully my body is prepped for HOT weather running! I hope my fellow athletes are enjoying their warm weather workouts.

I REALLY want to do it this year, and promised myself not to be doing anything crazy Tuesday night to F up my plans. I'm training for ironman right now and that run is the only activity I will get on the playa all week, so I am trying to do the whole thing (done a few ultras in past few years, been running for 15+ years). Is it like running on sand the whole time?? That will be torture

I knew a guy seven years ago who said he saw some sand out on the deep, deep playa. Why would he lie about that?

Not sand... You've been on the playa before.. Sam as walking it, just a little faster and for an extended period of time.

It's probably fine.
