Ok, everytime I go to the My Favorite video today thread it causes eplaya to "stop responding". Does that happen to anyone else? I also posted this video in The Bar 4 and it's not there today. So WTF?

There's the famous case of a group of men having sex with horses in washington.

It was legal until then.

I don't think those are all that inexplicable. 5 (and 30 and a lot of the rest) is obvious circus related--Fat Man and Midget. (Is it appropriate to use "Little Person" in that context? I bet she was advertised as a Midget, and lorded it over the dwarves...) 10 is Christmas Eve in the Alps and Krampus. Some of the other costumed stuff might be like that, others are obviously college prank sort of things. It's possible that the skeletons are collegiate (anatomy classes) as well. Or maybe it was simply a thing to be photoed with one back then. How many people on this board would do the same if given the chance now? Not zero. 42 looks like some sort of scouting thing. 13, I'm not sure what it means, but the word "rubber" reminds me that in that era rubber was a very hot commodity indeed (and with the human rights violations to prove it.)

I hope not, but you're probably right.

I suggest many of the photos are related to tableaux photography, where the photo is staged as a purely creative expression, often extremely surreal and complex.

Yes.
He explained that (with its royalties) "American Pie means I never have to work again".
This appears in different wordings, be from his saying it slightly differently many times, or from copying errors.
Other than that, and a reference to Buddy Holly and his paper route, he leaves it open to interpretation, and there's no shortage of those.

I heard an interview of him breaking it all down, unless it was spurious in some way.

No surprizes I remember.

He went into some detail about record shops and Dylan.

The day the music died.. Was the day the American Pie went down.. Taking the top recording artist with it. Took my chevy to the levay but the levy was dry..The levy was a park and neck and AM radio (teen) spot.. But the levy was dry.. There was nothing at the levy to hang around for.. Bye bye American Pie was to say good bye to the music of the day.. Whisky and rye.. It was rumoured that everybody on the plan was drunk and high.. Buddy Holly being a good ole boy from the south would be drinking Rye whisky ..

*sigh* I should have been more explicit. Everyone (by which I mean almost everyone) knows that that song's about the death of Buddy Holly. I meant the sheer monumental level of detail--there are times when he's breaking it down almost line by line. Dozens, perhaps hundreds, of hours went into that.

I guesss that's why I was never an English major. It just gets too silly after a while.

Although, I will take everyone's instant two-line analyses as endorsements of my idea that this fellow went too far.

That's a surprise to me. Everything I've seen has him almost annoyed at people trying to break it down line by line, phrase by phrase. It appears his usual refusal to get dragged into that is almost a protest to the idiots trying, with some sometime hilarious, sometimes scary (they should be medicated), twists in interpretation.

It's been a long time since he wrote it.
Things change.

I saw a presentation by a musician at stax recently that had gone down in a similar crash with similarly famous musicians.
He had been profoundly affected.
They went down in water due to weather.
He felt he should have saved others, though he barely survived.
He hasn't really performed since in public.
His playing was still amazing.
