Usually anything that is somewhat valuable I wouldn't want to be using during the burn anyway (wallet, portable electronics, phone, etc.) and those go into the car's console out of view.

As for coolers... if you're afraid, get a really big cooler and decorate it. It'd be pretty funny to see someone trying to haul away our 165qt white cooler from the middle of camp. It was hard enough dragging that thing from the truck!

I'm sure that has been done somewhere, and I was going to google it to post here, but I decided that I really didn't want the President reading about my searching for that...

In years past, we had our primary shade structure open to the street and occasionally, towards the end of the week, we'd have some drunk fucktard wander into camp and start digging through one of our coolers before being told the camp wasn't a public 'help yourself to all our shit' bar.

We've evolved, our frontage is now art and we have clearly defined public vs. private space. We use common sense, and don't leave really spendy gear sitting out in the open or at the end of a long extension cord (as in the case of people who spend a mint on a generator then put it as far away from their camp as they can). Our generator's on a tether (using airline cable, nothing fancy). We don't have locking coolers or keep booze and other valuables under lock and key, but we don't leave booze and other valuables sitting out in public view unattended when we leave camp, either. Personally, I need to bring computer equipment/electronics with me for periodic use. When I don't need it, it's kept inside a locked vehicle.

The only theft issue I'm aware of any of my campmates having over the years is someone who lost an iPad. Details are sketchy (he was not in a sober state), but appears to either have been that he left it sitting out, visible from the street, and then he left on a big burn night... or he left it somewhere over the course of the evening. I'm not condoning theft (if it did turn out that someone walked into the camp and took it), but consider the unfortunate loss to have been easily preventable.

Far more important for your potential valuables is to make sure you've got labels on them. "If lost return to" kind of stuff, with your name, camp name, email address, etc. Because it's far more likely that a person will lose something than they'll get robbed, and if it gets separated from its owner a label greatly increases the odds of it getting back.

People do go through RVs, tents and campers, usually in darker areas, and toward the outskirts.
Been seen lots of times.
They stumble on occupied places a lot too.

Marking stuff is good.
Industrial paint markers are great.
I like nissen, but they are hard to use.
Lots of stencil choices to, permanent stickers.
Steel stamps are fantastic.
Cheap ones at hf, better at northern.
Good ones are usa made, getting pricey, still worth it.
You can buy individual stamps for initials and even get logos made.
They make rounded cutting faces for softer materials, like wood and aluminum.

As a youngstir in the 60's we didnt have much, no pop or candy. There was a camp ground near our home and me and my friends all around 8 years old. We would blacken our faces and walk a small creek
to the camps and grab thier cooler, and float it down the creek some ,and raid it for the sugar stuff . So I hope Karma doesnt finally get me :(
