Catmandu Fundraiser: a 3 story cat tree on the Playa!

Why hello, Ian here from Catmandu. For this year's Burn, we're building a life-sized 3 story cat tree for all to play on.

Here are the prospective features:

A large platform on the second story for dancing
3 sheltered pods for the sleepy kitties
Carpet everywhere, so kick off your shoes
Hammocks (yes, hammocks!)
12ft bouldering wall for active cats
Climbing ropes and handholds
Trapeze hoop (get your acro-cat on!)
Sound sensitive lights that react to music from passing art cars
Great views from the second-story platform and upper areas
Good vibes and great smiles!

This is public art, and we hope to be placed in the Inner Playa. Our core is comprised of 4-7 year veterans, so we are very mindful of sharing and spreading the 10 Principles. If you like our project, please consider backing it or helping spread the word. At the very least, I hope the video brings a smile to your face :D.

Carpet moops so I'm wondering how you are going to keep it under control?
maladroit- Burning Man is like a second job, except you pay to work there.
Burning Man is just the pre party for exodus! - fellow burner during exodus

I knew it was gonna be another "give me money" thread.
Let's see... Three posts, one lost-camera a few years ago, one bump-your-own-thread - and one send-me-money.

Er, aren't all the threads in Support a Project pretty much asking for money?

Carpet can be prepped to be un-MOOPy. There's a myriad of ways to seal the edges, and if all pieces are pre-carpeted off playa and no carpet cutting is done there it should be fine. I'd imagine the Artery would have taken a very critical look at this aspect of this project.
These are not my fuckos.

Lol oops yeah you're right. I always just hit "view new posts" or "view active topics"... I rarely know what category a thread is in. Shutting up now.

What AntiM said, on both counts, though I'm fixing the subject line (it's supposed to say fundraiser in the title. If they do the work, the carpeting will work well, and if they get rid of that rope from the other thread, they won't have MOOP issues there, either. Considering how many people (including burners) like dressing as cats or incorporating feline elements into costumes, this could be a lot of fun. And considering the growing number of awesome kitty art cars out there, I see some potential for things to get weird and surreal.

I didn't spot the Hot Tin roof area or any where for a nip of the cat-nip or the ...o-nine tails dungeon or....

Regarding carpet MOOP - we're definitely wary of the issue, and have been asking around the community.

We're using a long-weave, continuous thread carpet that is more likely to stay intact. All of our cutting will occur long before we get to the playa, and if additional cuts are necessary, they'll happen within a closed 24' box truck and swept up immediately (for wood or carpet).

Along the suggestions of a DPW member, we will either tape our carpet edges or burn-fuse them with a blowtorch. Daily checks will be made on the structure, so if fraying or "trouble spots" pop up, we'll seal them before they become a significant MOOP hazard. We're planning on sealing even every single screw hole.

Please let us know if you have other suggestions, as we really don't like MOOP. It's almost as bad as a "Person Out Of Place"!

Captain Goddammit... I admit I'm a Certified Lurker, Infrequent Poster by nature ;)

Trilobyte- thanks for fixing the subject line. I read your guidelines, but missed that little detail. We appreciate your feedback in the rope thread as well. Indeed hoping for a "cat-vergence" to occur!

BeeWeeDee- BYOCatnip! Everyone has their own preference
