My little landing pad will be on 4:30 again this year. Hopefully the reserved theme camps won't run way down the spoke again this year, and I'll be back around the area of I-J

BLACK ROCK POWER CO-OP, expects to be located as last year, one city block from A street to B street; 4:00 to 4:30 with a bunch of fun new activities:

This year our Village has a unique and diverse selection of camps within its' boundaries. This includes the following camps:
And then there's only love, (it doesn't get more interactive than this camp)
Espresso Camp, (bringing espresso to the masses each morning)
Saints & Sinners (they joined us from Silicon Village and have the same sex positive attitude as ATTOL)
Hookah Lounge (bringing hookah and food to the Playa each and every day)
Exposure Vault, (they will be arriving very early and perform time lapse photography for the Event. This is sanctioned by the ORG)
Particle Camp (this is a new and very unusual camp. They will be handing out equipment to capture and define what is in the air we breathe out there. This will be done on a real time basis.)
East Bay CORE Camp. (This group is building the EB CORE project)
Dan & Lindsays' Wedding Camp, (Dan Das Mann will be getting married on the Playa and he will be building and burning a beautiful wedding chapel for anyone to use and enjoy)
Brain Freeze / Got Stickers Camp. (Again this year we will be handing out the most popular stickers and we will attempt to beat our record of last year of giving out 175 gallons of frozen margaritas. Once again we will also be the home of the Worlds' Most Dangerous Bar, Old Sparky (just ask Sweetthang) the Worlds' Most Dangerous BBQ and new for this year will be the Worlds' Most Dangerous Pinball machine. Careful if you win, it will send fire high into the night sky.)
The members of Brain Freeze and Espresso Camp will also be putting on the fireworks with DaveX on Monday night.

BLACK ROCK POWER CO-OP is centered around a couple huge whisperwatt generators and a interconnected power grid

BE THERE NOW has heard early rumblings of landing in the 4:30 neighborhood and we are super excited.

We will be rolling in with a 20 foot diameter UFO Mutant Vehicle called The Mothership. Lit by 4000 individually addressable RGB LED lights that you can dance or frolic under. Convenient sunshade during the day, Party light by night.

the build blog is here: http://mothership2013.blogspot.com/

We are also setting up a multi-stage green screen photography station so we can transport burners to mystical, beautiful and mysterious locations.

You will have the opportunity to become a Space Princess, fly high over the earth, relax on a meditation cushion, or be accidentally transported to the White House or the aisles of Walmart. (gasp!)

We are an evolutionary offshoot of a 7:30 neighborhood camp and are looking forward to new neighbors, new friends and a healthy dose of weird.

And at the tiny end of the Camp Size Spectrum, and the outside of the neighborhood.... Elliot's Bicycle Service and Chardonnay Tap, with two bicycle mechanics and just a few more people, next to Figjam and company. We are too small to be registered as anything. We are shooting for a spot on the 5 spoke, on the 4:59 side, just outside G, as last year. We repair bicycles, lend bicycles, and otherwise fool around with pedal-powered vehicles. Chardonnay and other beverages served. Storm shelter in Millicent The Bus.
Elliot's Bicycle Service, Camel Saddlery and Beverage Salon 5 & G as before, probably.

Dr.Realz,

Fantastic.

My build partner Jon Zensius has started the build in Pleasant Hill. He may have some engineering questions.

We were going to do a mix of steel, and wood for the frame and stretch fabric for the skin. Your rendering is very similar to our goal. Because we are doing a 20ft diameter, we are making the wings foldable to follow the 12ft wide on the streets rule.

it adds a lot of complexity to the design but we are up for the challenge.

He's bit stiff, but you can hug him French Guy.

Thanks for the heads up, Trilo. So looking at the map, I am thinking I will be landing on H at the end of the reserved area, say 4:25ish.

Great to see all the spaceships on 4:30. My spaceship "The BRC Guardian" will be there as well!

@ Corn Man
Every street has the same issues. The side facing the man is more interactive than the the other side, Especially A street. A street generally has the ass end of huge Esplanade camps, a wall of RV's or a parking lot. Terminal City did have this under control for a few years when the village was on both sides of A street, but that is gone to dust.

This year Black Rock Power Co-op will have at least 2 camps that face B street. Exposure Vault and East Bay Particle Camp. Part of what is shown in your picture is one of the two propane delivery trucks that supply fuel to art pieces all over the playa. Access is needed for those trucks to get in and out of camp, and access for Emergency Services, just in case.

That's good news about the two camps that are facing B Street to liven it up a bit. Perhaps the parking lot or even the deliver trucks themselves can be dressed up a bit? Even hanging a strand or two of Christmas lights on the trucks themselves will help prevent the street from becoming such a scary dark hole at night. It could be fun to make a kiosk display with descriptions and photos of the tanker truck's duties and place that fronting the street. B Street is considered nearly prime real estate - no sense making it feel like a neglected industrial zone if it could easily be prevented with just a little imagination. We didn't apply for placement on the 4:30 side this year, but whoever camps there this year will appreciate belonging to a more brightly lit and lively neighborhood.

Your'e going to find that's an issue that affects A and B in many parts of the city when it comes to larger sized camps. Placement frowns on camps doing a separate 'parking lot camp' and wants participants to include all necessary vehicles within the camp or village (parking lot camps just create even worse black holes in other parts of the city). A camp or village's "frontage" is generally the primary focus, and when the camp is on a corner or large enough to face streets behind it things get tricky. Especially if outside service access (RV servicing, fuel/water, etc) is needed (and no, they can not decorate the vehicles of outside service providers), since any vehicles being serviced need to be easily accessible. IMO the best way to avoid that stuff is to aim for someplace a little further back or away from the larger villages - smaller camps don't generally don't go all the way through to the street behind them.

I can suggest ideas for other camps, but I can't tell them what to do. I do believe that if our orphan camp gets big enough for placement all the way through a block, we'll take our neighbors to the rear street in consideration because they will be part of our community too. I like to think we're innovative in that way. During Christmas time, I set up the lights in the back yard as well as in the front, and my neighbors to the back have told me they enjoy looking at them when they're sitting in their back yard or sun room. I like to make people happy if possible. Last year, we enjoyed the visitors from Black Rock Power Co-Op to our pub, and keep in contact with some of them all through the year. Good people.

4:30 feels like a friendly neighborhood with a lot of home spun camps giving it an intimate feeling. I've never camped anywhere else, but I have visited other areas. The noodle camp is great. I would have died that one morning with out the Espresso Dude being there. Sakenoma was super fun during the daytime. The shipwreck pier tied it all together. I wonder what's up the pier's sleeves this year?

Some of them are enjoying the year off, others are building the couch train MV, and still others are building a 55 foot long ichthyosaur puppet. I have no idea where any of them are camping.

Thanks! Well said!! We were right next to where that picture was taken, and I have to tell you there was nothing across the street facing where this picture was taken except right on the corner. My camp at 4:20 and A/B had fronts on both A & B. There was also two more camps that I knew of that had frontage on backside of A/B row right next to ours going towards 4 O clock so I take exception to the comment "Black Hole"

As well that picture is of Black Rock City employees camp who spend most of their burn working their butts off the make our burn better. They have very good reasons for why there camp is set up that way, as I am sure every other camp has there reasons setting up the way they do. Mostly experienced vets don't set up facing that direction because it is the direction that the winds comes from. Which means you would get a face full of white out when they happen! Believe me I KNOW. We got placed on the back side of Esplanade on year and our structure got demolished second day! A wind break is needed on that side to save your ass a whole lot of headache!

I know of the approx 30 foot hole of which you speak. It was fine during the day because it got used by performance troupes practicing their acts to be performed on the playa that evening. But for at night, yes, we fucked up a bit by not at least putting a string of solar LED lights strung across the top to brighten it up. We did purposely refrain from putting an RV there. This year, we aim to rectify the situation by offering approx 100% more street front interactive infrastructure/attractions, but we'll bring some extra lights in case the same thing happens again.
