So, which is it? From now on I'm gonna call it "monitoring" also.

Dungeon Monitors are an established part of any kink-friendly party or play space. Think of them as the Bouncer in a bar. Nobody really appreciates them being there until there is trouble.

How safe is Burningman? it is not! be afraid! very very afraid! You cannot drive an art car and see stoners stumbling in front of you. you cannot operate propane cannons if some idiot is hanging on to the nozzle. You better be sure to wear a condom at all times cause these are high mileage models out there. guys and gals. assume the worst at all possible times especially when you may be less than 100 percent which is probably all the time. Read your ticket. you may die. Just have fun and leave no regrets behind. No worries Eh Mate?

It might be a little embarrassing for you at the time but I bet it would be a helluva lot more embarrassing for him. And if he tries to laugh it off or get defensive you say in a very loud voice "HEY, I told YOU I don't like what you are attempting to do to ME. Knock it the fuck off right NOW"

As I said it may be a little embarrassing for you at the time to call attention to his boorishness, but do it because he will probably leave you alone from there on out and put every other woman on alert.

fuck him and his fucking creeper status

plus, many guys hate this behavior, especially from people in their own camp (but also respect a woman's choice to date douche bags if that is what they want). If you do not publicly reject the advances, it is very hard to tell if we should intervene or not (a couple of big guys having an "intervention" with the douche bag can be effective, but under different circumstances THAT behavior can be almost as offensive).

That's a solid point. There have been times where I've thought (no, saw) a guy was being way inappropriate/out of control/aggressive with a girl and even said something and he got pissed but she was more pissed. Guess she liked being the abusee. So if you have an issue, you have to speak up. Assuming you don't do it every time some guy tries to hit on you or asks to see your tits, and only when it's really over the line, then everyone in the area (guys and gals) will almost definitely drop whatever they are doing to assist.

AntiM wrote:When I was in the Navy, I was stationed at Fort Gordon for a while for school. There was a large drill field, huge open grassy area surrounded by trees. They type of place that even though it is open and seemingly visible, you're invisible to the buildings because of distance and how the structures are screened by the vegetation. It was off limits after dark, there had been a number of rapes and assaults that year.
I was cutting across it at dusk, headed back to the barracks, in civilian clothes. I was hustling, it was getting dark. There were shortcut footpaths worn in the grass, so I was taking a diagonal. A man came up behind me, I guess he'd been in the trees to my right, angling to cross my path, but was moving much faster. He didn't pass me, but slowed and asked if I knew it was dangerous to be out on the drill field after dark. Yes, of course I knew. He didn't move along or ask me if I wanted an escort. He paced me. My inner alarm system went on high alert. He asked me what I would do if attacked and raped by someone out there. He specifically said "rape". I stopped in my tracks, looked him square in the eye and calmly said, "I'd kill him with my bare hands. I'd tear his throat out". The guy stammered a bit, oh okay, and took off like a shot.
It wasn't a normal encounter. He didn't act "properly". Maybe he was simply clueless, but I had a bad feeling, still do.
What makes this so memorable to me is it marks the first time I threatened a man, rather than being meek and easy-going. Prior to that moment, I'd been the go with the flow gal. Suddenly I was the kick ass woman.
Try it, you'll like it.

I was age 24 or so, about the age of many women attending B-Man for the first time. Many have not had the opportunity or need to be forceful, to be loud, to cry for assistance. That is why I think other women relating experiences may be of use, and why role playing would boost confidence in taking action if needed.

For the record, I had defended myself before, but not verbally, not pre-assault. Two different mindsets and reactions.

Not to be overly serious, but one thing I've noticed in life, and even talked to my wife about (she's a women's self defense instructor, among other things), is how women tend to not trust their intuition. Obviously this is an overgeneralization, but women seem to have better intuition than most men, BUT, society or men or whatever, have taught them to ignore it. "oh, you're just being paranoid" "he's just a little drunk, he won't do anything; he's harmless!".

Trust your gut!!

I keep meaning to write a will. It'd be easy to get creamed by an insufficiently staked carport or dome during a storm, and people driving from the event are routinely sunbaked, underslept, and in a hurry to get to the airport.

We got cut off by someone with a volunteer's bumper sticker shortly after Exodus last year. (Classy!) Apparently she had really important weaving in and out of lanes to do, up and down Route 447.

Everyone should have a will; don't pretend you are never going to die. A fucking airplane could crash through your roof at any moment.

Just do it. Tell your next-of. And leave it where someone can find it, with a list of all your on-line passwords. Jeez.

Consider a living trust. People in my circle have died recently and even with the will it basically all went into probate

I have a powerfully developed sense of my own mortality, personally . . . I expect to die at any moment.

I have some funny reasons for not finishing my will, it's just that imagining myself bulletproof isn't one them.

I have a will, mostly to keep my stepson's hands off my family heirlooms. If we had more property than we do, we'd put it all in a trust. Still might, as we age. Dad did this, so when he passed I simply assumed control, no probate required. Everything was already in my name. Requires some level of trust, honesty, and responsibility.

We're all going to die on 447 in one mass collision, a spectacular ball of screaming flame.

Yerp. A trust is the way to handle it if you can.

If you don't have a ton of assets or real estate and partnerships, you can literally download a kit to do your will on the internet. Take it to your bank and have it signed and notarized. It's not even a full day project. Most people already have an idea of how they want their assets handled, it's just a matter of writing it down.

Now that's the way to end the era of Burning Man. It can't grow forever, and it can't wither. Or else a massive Thelma and Louise lemming style drive off a cliff.

If something happens to you out there it is burn platform or frog pond or we just hide the body for BLM to find. Read the "you may die" clause again.
