There is a particular kind of bead that is called both donut (doughnut) and pi.

Think about it.

A lot.

We went to a food truck party last night; it was great fun. There was even a three alarm fire across the street to spice things up.
She sighed and said, now all I need is a beer.
I grabbed her iPhone and opened the map app. Found where we were, told it "from here" and then typed "beer" and instantly we find a bar around the corner.
Winning!

from here, beeer! an app worthy of standalone identity.
eep and beep. I went to bed early tonight, and while watching a video, I heard some commotion outside my door, but the mailboxes are there, and I usually hear all manner of talking, usually individuals on their phones. Then "HELP!" "HELP!" that came through loud and clear, but being en deshabille, not dressed to be outside, I had to shout, "Hold on!" while jumping down from my loft bed ("jumping" meaning, carefully mindfully coming down a ladder,) and hopping into some jeans. It was like running for the fedex man, and I wondered if anyone was going to be there, or if they had been shouting on their phone. I found one of my long time neighbors partway under a bush on a downward slope in the sidewalk, sort of stuck there after a fall. I helped get him free of the bush, and we both fought gravity trying to right him with a bad foot, and poor balance. Another neighbor came down the walk, and we sorted it all out. The fellow who had fallen was late for a dinner engagement, and we saw him safely to his car, and down the drive. Nobody else in the whole complex even opened their door... So, I'm happy to have met a new good neighbor, happy to help an old good neighbor, and wondering about the rest of the strangers I live around.
I'm completely not tired, now. think I'll fiddle with this game for a while.

Mmmm food truck party… Kudos on helping out and making friends, elorrum! Sorry to hear about the stalker, lemur. I had some issues with stalky obsessive types a few years back, I can sympathize (and am very glad it's behind me, though every once in a while there's a person who pops up on the radar and gives me the creeps). Hopefully they cause no further drama before you get outta there.

Elorrum to the rescue! Nothing beats the purity of a good deed, appreciated. It might have been kinder, though, if you hadn't bothered to dress. ;)

Is that a coin-op baseball game? How I loved those old arcade games.

And Ygmir, that there could be an interesting hobby, as an anti-stalker stalker. :)

Good morning.
Littleflower, thanks for the scones, they'll go nicely with my second cup of coffee.

MDF, I looked at the photos from last years race and it looks like a ton of fun! Did you get dressed up? I didn't think about having to follow the course, but it looks like there are more than a couple crucial places you'd like to be. I look forward to seeing the new photos of the race yesterday.

Dougly, re: the baseball game. That wooden one is just a gravity spring one. I was looking for an image of skittlebowl and found that. I used to love playing one arcade game that had a flat silver plate that the ball would shoot out from under, and then there were little mechanical guys on the top that would show your base runners' locations

I got a ticket in Fresno county last summer, they have straight straight two lane highways through miles of farms, and it's a great revenue stream for them I guess. Friday it was near 90, and today they are predicting rain. Good garage day. I finally am getting ALL the building material I've accumulated, out of my apartment, and back into the garage where it belongs. We cleared a lot of stuff out with the garage sale last week. My sister and I have a new joke about what I could take to Burning Man and get the most psychic cleansing from by throwing it into a pyre somewhere. There's a very heavy cabinet that we have lugged around the country and both of us hate. It may be freecycle worthy, but it's a nightmare to load. I might just take a sawzall to it, and bring a part with me to that TTITD. I've found a LOT of batteries, one movie's time worth, I think, of testing to see if they are crap or not. I was listening to Gilbert and Sullivan most of the day yesterday and found them to be good work mates. I was sampling, but today I'm going to start with The Mikado. a cheap and chippy chopper hah!

Hi, kiddo! Some of the coinop baseball games are actually pinballs, with a little baseball diorama on the display panel. But the real deal is one where the ball literally comes out from under a flap at the pitcher's position, and the player controls a little bat at home plate.

One of numerous variations:

Hey! ha, I am so beat still. Elorrum, yes of course I dressed up 8) not wildly, but, the theme this year was "Green!" so I decorated a big straw hat to look like a Green Roof and wore it with my sparkly white sun cloak, so as to resemble a LEED skyscraper. Very urban. By sheer luck my hand-made shrubbery had flowers exactly matching the ones on the trees, but, can't tell that from the pix, which have not descended from our cameras in usable form yet. But we had a lot of fun. 8)

Quiet Sunday evening sounds just right to me; I have opened a bottle of red wine. Any takers?

*Wanders in, well, limps in........hahha, pours brandy*
HI MDF!! sounds like a ton of fun!!! yay!
I loved the games Elorrum and Dougly are discussing,too........so much fun, for a dime!

Had a fun time at Pineys, helping put up and roof a new sun room. got rained on! hahaa.
Plenty of Burners stopped by!

dang, 420........sorry to miss you.........well, next time I'm up there?

so, in todays "WTF, Sometimes you're just lucky, Where the fuck does this go" combined thread:
maybe this should be in the "fuck" thread, I dunno:

we're driving back from Reno, thoroughly exhausted from a weekend of work, fun and party. Looney Tune is driving, because I got sleepy.
This is on Highway 20, just after leaving I80, heading towards Nevada City.
It suddenly starts hailing.........and hailing so hard, we were fearing the windshield on my truck might break. So, along with a couple other cars, pulled over off the roadway, due to visibility, and that in about 2 mins 3" of hail had already accumulated on the road!
So, as we were pulling off, in the distance (through the veil of super heavy hail) we see an awkward, flailing and rotating action.
It took a second, for both of us to realize, about 1/4 mile ahead of us, a guy had just flipped his motorcycle and gone careening and skidding/bouncing down the highway!
Awe crap! we both said!
As we saw cars in both directions stop, I started watching for secondary issues (secondary accidents from stopping and such) and as the seconds peeled off no one was getting out to help the guy laying in the road. NO ONE!!
I said "Fuck this" "you stay here, I'll beckon you if we need the truck to help, I gotta go see if the guy is ok!
so I donned my PGE sweathshirt and bailed out of the truck, running right up the middle of the highway, stopping traffic and cussing at the people sitting in their warm dry cars, watching!! no one could go, because I was literally in the middle of the two lane road, running, slipping and verbally assaulting them all as I approached the down biker.
FUCKING HUMANS*** I yelled!
It must have gotten the bikers attention, as he then stood up as I came to a skidding halt, gasping for air (I'm not much of a runner)
First, I say "show me your face, don't move, are you ok?",, he flips up his visor, I see no blood, but and elderly chap, probably the other side of 70.
he says "I'm fine"
I say (understand adrenaline is flowing) "fuck if you are, you sit the fuck down, and don't move till I look at your eyes and you tell me what day it is, and if you'r hurt or bleeding"

he complied (could it have been the wild look in my eyes, my yelling at people to help, as I ran there, and my wet hair, steaming breath and very loud instructions? haha).
anyway, after a few seconds, he assured me he could stand.
so, we started trying to pull his full size, full dressed BMW out of the lane of traffic.

Still no help!!!!
I stopped, as traffic by that point had started to inch forward, stepped back in the road, halted them and yelled "someone get the fuck out, and help us move this poor mans bike, you cocksuckers" (do I sound enraged yet?)

Well, the people adjacent to me, locked their doors and sped off..........ahahaa, but the next truck and a jeep back, stopped, and got out to help.

Yay!

we righted the bike, just as an off duty paramedic came trotting down from up where my truck was, stating he's a paramedic, and did anyone need help?
I pointed at the rider, standing sort of dazed, who said "I"m ok",

of course, I said "fuck if you are, let this nice man check you, you just did a double gainer with two twists off a rolling platform into pavement".. we chuckled a little at that.

The medic started checking, while we rolled the bike off the road.
As folks started inching by, I castigated each and every car that had been within earshot, for not helping, but I'm glad they were warm and dry........... none waved or smiled.

we got his bike off the side, the helpers went back to their vehicles (soaking wet, it had not yet stopped hailing/slushing), but with thanks and a handshake.
the medic and I again queried the rider as to condition, he said "go on, I'll get back to town"........

no.

we stayed to make sure the bike started, and after a time it did. we then went down the hill to retrieve his seat (it had flown off he bike), put it on, and I offered to take him to town.
he, of course, wanted to stay with his bike,so, as it idled, I elicited a promise he'd not move, until the hail was gone (the traffic had almost already cleared the road to just wet pavement), and that he'd go straight home.

The medic pronounced the fellow fit, owing to a full kevlar, padded riding suit and good helmet, and felt him ok to go home on his own.

I once more asked the medic if he seemed ok, and the reply was "yes", with confidence. So, I thanked the medic, who was soaked and he ran back to his truck.

the old fellow, shaken but ok, gave me assurance, he'd not take a risk, and if he felt weird at all, he'd stop and wave for help.

I trotted back up the highway (middle) just because I could and traffic was stopping for me, got in the truck and pulled out, stopping to give the "ok" sign to the rider............and drove........and then started to cry.......

damn fucking people!!!
A human had been bouncing and rolling down the highway, and no one, NO ONE, got out to help!! Poor damn guy could have just died alone, people watching from inside their warm cars, so they'd not get wet, or be late, or whatever.

Fuck!! I mean, thanks to those that finally did pitch in, indeed. But it took so long, for anyone to react, it'd have been deadly had he been seriously injured!
Maybe is was the adrenaline wearing off, the ice cold shivering I was doing.....I dunno but I just couldn't help it..........thinking of how lonely a sight to witness such an apathetic response to emergency.

I drove on about 10 miles, seeing a happy family riding bicycles (there is a a very nice trail off the side of the highway, but visible), and just as I approached one of the 4 kids, biffed, and went over the handlebars.

SHIT!!

I started to slam on the brakes, to render assistance, when LooneyTune correctly pointed out, the dad stopped instantly, mom was braking, the other kids stopped and the "biffer" was standing............

we continued on............

I'm now having a brandy, or 5.

sorry for the rant, I just had to get that off my chest, my utter dismay at a humanity that would just sit and watch an event, as such, and not react...................

ETA: Looneytune took a photo of my running......well, can't see me, but you can see the road.

Oh dear, ygmir, and oh, dear ygmir. You are connected to the human race even when they are such cocksuckers. It breaks your heart and you don't have any choice in the matter. I know you didn't decide to do something special. You just did the thing. Angry and worried, and wondering how anyone else could just sit there and watch. Man, I bet you were super adrenalized, and certainly tears would follow that. That is some grueling shit. Sit with your brandy and Clyde, and know you responded when the call came. Things worked out much better than they could have when a motorcyclist hits pavement,(I bet all the slick hail worked in his favor once he hit the ground) or when pedestrians are on a highway. I'm grateful for that.

Yes, MDF, I will have a hit off that wine bottle, or a glass, I can do it either way. Thank you kindly.

Damn, Ygmir, civilized folk are such weaklings and cowards! Curse their souls all to Hades. They are down here in the flatlands as well, let me tell you.
You know, when we hear the call, good folk leap forward and help, without regard to their personal safety and dignity. It's always good to have willing helpers when that call comes.

Holy crap, Ygmir! Good thing you pulled off, could you imagine if that guy did his acrobatic move while you were rolling past? Well, over… crunch! Good on you for stopping and making sure, kevlar's great stuff and all but it would have been easy for a stunned rider to not notice an injury. Hail… what a day. When I was younger, one summer my family was in some tiny little burgh in northwestern Arkansas and the hail started coming down all fast and furious. All the cars were forced to pull over and stop, the hail was coming down heavy and getting bigger. When it got to the size of a baseball the hood and roof were starting to get dented and my mom feared the windows would shatter so we bailed from the car to the entrance to one of the shops on the street. Hands covering our heads and running best we could, that stuff hurt. Sure enough the front windshield did get busted up pretty good, along with most of the cars on the street. Maybe five minutes later, it was over.

End of a long, fairly productive weekend… I'm beat. Camp meeting yesterday, then today made a run to storage to get a bunch of different boxes and bins, plus organize a few things there. I also made progress on some designs and revisions for other components of the installation, and did a bunch of research on options for lighting and whatnot. Then back to work on the curio cart parts, getting things deburred and sanded, almost ready to start painting and polycoating. I did a rough assembly of the parts to boot, my plan was to take it right back apart again after but the cat insists I leave it up overnight.

Time to grab drinks and nibbles...
