Offering help making a costume in NYC

Postby ro1113 » Sat Jan 26, 2013 8:36 pm

Hey there group -

I hear that burning man is an event where people like to dress up WIIIILLDDD.

And since I have aspirations in costume design, I'd love to help you create an outfit that will WOW.

Since burning man is so far in the future, I figured it wouldn't hurt to start the process of design concepting with NYC Burning Man attendees who are interested in making a vision of themselves this year. :D

All this in mind, I'm interested in putting in the time for free, if you're willing to purchase all the materials.

What do ya say? What kind of audience am I dealing with anyway? ;)

Hope to hear from ya!

I'm giving this a nudge over to the Share Resources board, since that's a better fit for the gifting and sharing of resources, time, and expertise. Good luck connecting with collaborators.

Ro113,
Since you're in NYC, drop by the weekly NYC Happy Hour on Wednesday evenings and meet people from the NY Burner community. You'll find quite a few people willing ti accept your help. Double Down Saloon, 14 Ave A. Cheap drinks til 8, the crowd starts around 630 and can go til midnight.

Ro113 -

I'm interested in making some eclectic costumes for this year's Burning Man, and I live in NYC.

Have you attended Whiskeywhore's suggestion of Double Down Saloon on Wednesday evenings? I'd be game to meet up and discuss. I have a small circle of BM friends and always looking to introduce more to the mix.

Do you have an area of specialty? I own a sewing machine and currently stock a normal amount of eclectic wares :)

There are plenty of burners here in NYC who could use your help. You also might want to contact the kostume kult theme camp.

Hey ro1113 and all,

Just got my ticket for my first year and I'll be heading over to Double Down in the following weeks to find some burners.
For how often I go there, I never knew it was a burner happy hour spot!

I'd definitely love to chat to you, ChuckIt, and everyone else about costumes and more.

Hi all!

Three burgins (myself included) will be headed to Double Down Saloon tonight for the happy hour, even though I haven't seen anything announced on the announce/discussion lists or site for a while.

My avatar here is a photo of me, and I'll be with a ginger English girl who looks too nice to be in that sort of place. I'm not sure how to describe the third member of our party, other than to say she's got dark hair and a warm smile.

Anyhow, hope to meet some of you soon!

-Chris

P.S.: Cross-posted in a couple of threads as I wasn't sure where else to post. Not really an event & didn't find a current NYC Happy Hour thread when searching.

If she's a chocolate lab, I warn you--you're not going to be allowed to have her on playa.

Though she's warm and friendly, there's no way *anyone* could mistake this lovely lady for a pup. ;)

The messages are posted on the NYC list... There are dozens of emails posted daily so there is never a shortage of messages. You may want to join the email list if you'd like messages delivered to your inbox (they aren't really posted here).... http://regionals.burningman.com

Yay for all the responses!

If I showed up to the happy hour on April 3rd would any of you be interested in meeting up?

I can be described as Italian looking, with short brown hair and hipster glasses.

Looking forward to helping with your costume ideas! :D

Would be totally in but on April 3rd we've already got something scheduled. Maybe next time - I'm trying to get down there every week so make it a regular and you'll meet plenty!
