Is there a line you Can cross at bm?

Post by tattoogoddess » Wed Mar 13, 2013 10:38 pm

I got to thinking today about if there is a line that can be crossed on the playa as far as attire.
I know a person who is attending this year and they purchased a replica nazi military greens jacket to wear out on the playa with the 2 bolts, eagle crunching the swatztiga (spelling?)
I find the jacket very offensive and told them I don't think it is such a hot idea. I'm all for radical self expression, but should there be a line, "supporting/promoting" a military who killed millions based on a race?
Am I over reacting? They are not a neo nazi, skinhead ect btw just fascinated I guess. Or at least that's what I gather.
maladroit- Burning Man is like a second job, except you pay to work there.
Burning Man is just the pre party for exodus! - fellow burner during exodus

You are overreacting, assuming the person is wearing them ironically.

If he/she is wearing it to express solidarity, then that'd be gross to me, but whatever - to each his own as long as it's just an opinion and not action. The United States, where Burning Man takes place, has one of the most aggressive, violent militaries on the planet in the post-WW2 era, and I wouldn't freak out about someone wearing US military gear to the playa.

Strange how I was not aware that the USA has gassed, machine-gunned, buried alive, and otherwise gruesomely murdered 6 Million men, women, and children over the shape of their noses, and scavenged the gold fillings out of the corpse's teeth. But I suppose I don't read enough.

If someone wants to wear Nazi uniforms - I don't care. I think it is offensive - but that is just my view.
Why should we care? The person wearing the swastika (at BM) is probably just looking for a reaction.

I think the bigger issue would be that some people don't have a good, basic grasp on history. If another person wears the nazi uniform and it prompts discussion then that's a good thing.

The spelling is "swastika", since you ask. I think it's good that you gave them your opinion. I would. You've got a right to speak your mind.

They can do with that whatever they want, including nothing.

I'm Jewish, and your idiot friend is free to wear his Nazi outfit for all I care. I'm free to think he looks pathetically desperate to "look hipster/ironic".

Yup. Fucking hipsters.

Free speech is important...
But it also needs good education so that the fucktards have a shot of understanding history.

And, sorry about this, but please google your spelling please TG. Swastika is a common word - it is not hard to get it right.

If you think Nazis and the US are even comparable, you really need some perspective from beyond the large intestine.

Whilst looking for pictures of Stalin then daydreaming about APOKILIPTIKA and wondering if they had something fun to quote I found their delightful link is broken text from their website - LOVE it hope you do to (just for you Mel  )...

This page cannot be displayed because KGB says you may not view.
Glorious page you are looking for is currently doomed. Your control has told us that you are n longer allowed access, as you are traitorous Amerikanski slime or you have to provided incorrect intelligence to GRU or KGB, or have worked to overthrow true Soviet of people.

IF you are repentable citizen comrade, then you shall to try following:

Click refresh.gif (82 bytes) Refresh button to see if things shall change to how you want camp instead of how camp is. Continue to click until you realize you are blowing snowdrift up Siberian Forest.
If you have new intelligence, please to contact Bureau 147 at Embassy. You shall to know number. You may be forgiven... Once.
To return to good citizen status, first click the I am doomed menu, and then click Cold Water in the Face. On the Quisling tab, click Refute 2012 trechery button. The GTFU settings should match those provided by your local KGB inspiration administrator. If you need further inspiration, look at camp theme from 2005 to 2012.
If your Evil persona has enabled it, we can examine your soul and quickly discover a way to wake you up from your circus-tent-induced stupor.
If you would like KGB to try and discover them,
click Detect Settings Detect Crap Camp Theme Enabler
The camp never lost faith in you - it was you who lost faith. To regain faith read The Communist Manifesto or writings of Comrade Stalin on Second 5 year plan Production Goals.
If you still do nyet get "Camp Theme" then go to another camp. You shall to choke on dramayou made in Apokiliptika.
If you are still unable to walk away without destroying camp, click here and your location will be transmitted to Spetznaz or Apokistapo team to take you out.
If that doesn't work, then you are officially in need of some serious help. Dial 1-800-YOU-GTFO on your computer's keypad to join lesser camp with unpopular theme.
Click the Back button to melt your brain, or beg other camp to take quisling butt of yours to their camp.

Why would TG be hanging with someone who has such dreadful judgement?
As far as performance art or tasteless costumes, it can be done, but they should expect to be razzed the entire time---also performance art!

I know someone who finds Barbie Death Camp offensive for the very same reasons you disliked the Nazi regalia. An opinion, and no one needs to agree. Visual expression is just that, an expression. Taking action on such views would be over the line.

Guess I am a bit of a hypocrite. For Halloween I have went with dead cabbage kids and blood all over me, dressed black face as OJ when that was going on, the ultimate bad guy, the devil, etc. but I would be a little offended if someone was wearing that trash garb. Guess I will go with self expression though . At my old work, I monitored where people surfed, how long, etc. Nazi stuff was always on the list of sites that were a no no .....The only things that I really won't go back on is doing things that hurt kids and old people that can't defend themselves. Besides that, party .........

It only matters if it happens in the West, just like how people concentrate on the US and think it has "one of the most aggressive, violent militaries on the planet in the post-WW2 era." Forget the Mao's Great Leap Forward, Stalin's democides, the Pol Pot's killing fields, or even the shenanigans of the "peaceful" Mickey Mouse watch-wearing, imperialist war-criminal Emperor Hirohito (we got Japan's chemical and biological weapons technology out of that deal though). All that shit happened in East Asia or Eastern Europe and it's as easily forgotten as a Rwandan genocide or a war in Congo.

Hell, Hitler had some pretty good branding, and a recognizable mustache! The other symbols (hammer and sickle or stars on a red background) are too genericized, or just plain unrecognizable like the flag of Democratic Kampuchea (who?!), which has some sort of building on it or something. It's a shame though; the swastika is such a nice symbol.
