I think Raver fishing is similar to Hippie fishing, but you use a something bright and flashy - ravers love flashy lights ; where as hippies are attracted to anything useful (except water, they don't like that . . .)

Fishing rod, attach bait - cast out onto street ... drink, wait

We had 1 raver chick ride up and stopped right on the line so I couldn't yank it away when she grabbed it. Then she wrapped it around her handlebars a few times and took off at warp speed. I was yelling for someone to cut the line and also trying to drag it down so it would break. LOL I haven't laughed so hard in years. It seemed she knew exactly what we were doing.

It's not good sport if you cannot lose. ... ... Waitaminnit -- what am I saying?!

This year we really must get organized enough to use the Gimmick/Bait Bikes.

To bring everyone up to speed... I have three or four bicycles that are booby-trapped in various ways. The concept is that these bicycles can be ridden a few feet, and then they stop, more or less abruptly.
One has a "rubber" frame that collapses immediately under human weight.
Another has pedals that unscrew themselves in ten revolutions, and can be adjusted to fewer revolutions.
A third has a brake that gradually applies itself by the turning of the wheel.
And there is one with a super low gear and no other gears -- maximum speed ridiculously slow.

Maybe after the Meet-n-Greet?

It is not actually a rubber frame, but a regular frame cut in half. The halves are then reconnected with sections of garage door springs inside the frame tubes, and this concealed with the usual fake fur. The coil springs are stiff enough to keep the bicycle rigid during light handling, but stretch under the weight of a person.

I seem to have purged the pictures from my Photobucket, but perhaps I can get around to reinstalling them later.

We once discussed all sorts of plans, like setting up video cameras and whatnot, but to pull it off would require some "cat herding". So I'm thinking that once many of us are together at the Meet-n-Greet anyway....

I think it was 2010.

There was talk of bullhorns, bright lights, and video.

Might be time consuming waiting for a perp, but with enough booze we could entertain ourselfs, as long as we don't forget to watch the bikes!

Oh, and I have one that steers backwards. That is, the front wheel goes right when the handlebar is turned left. Pretty much impossible to ride.

I have a battery-operated fence charger that might make an interesting addition to the bait-bike brew. It's good for 20 miles of fence. Shouldn't have a problem making it through 3 feet of bike frame!

I've been pushing pallet jacks for years... If I really concentrated, I wonder if I could ride that bike with the same approach. turn right to go left etc.

After 27 years in trucking I can dance the Mazurka with an electric pallet jack, but I cannot ride this wrong-way-Jose bicycle.

A touch of electricity might work, but.... Last time we got so inventive we were asked to back off before the liability lawyers freaked out.

I was working on a string of firecrackers inside the frame, set off by a pistol primer under the saddle. Never mind.

An other idea was to install a screw jack in the seat tube so that the saddle would rise towards the heavens as the villain pedaled. There is pretty much no limit to the fun that can be had -- all it takes is tons of time to invent and build the stuff. :D

i suspect you would get most of us trying these bikes just for the fun of trying.

This is Corrigan – Wrong-Way-Corrigan. (He’s on Wikipedia)
In fairness, I stole the idea from the Cyclecide club in San Francisco.

This is the secret: a second steering head connected to the original with gears. A little faux fur and it will not be noticeable – until you try riding it.

I'll have to take new pictures of the others.

Apart from the obvious entertainment value, would it not be an achievement on a grand scale if someone was to master cycling it.....
I secretly hope that some wired ascended spirit both attempts to cycle and succeeds to cycle this bike and then proceeds to disappear in a cloud of dust never to be seen again

Then we would have a brand new religion on our hands -- and I would be the Grand Priest, Ruler Of All I Survey.

During an extremely dusty Exodus a few years ago, some of us were enjoying rest and conversation in my bus, when an exiting car stopped just barely within visible range -- all I could see was the faint glow of headlights. They were obviously waiting for the dust to die down a little so they could see to drive. So I stripped naked and grabbed several bottles of water and walked over and knocked on a window. I asked if they would like some water or needed anything else? They accepted the water and said they were otherwise fine. I disappeared back into the dust.

It might have been better if I had been dressed in some sort of a biblical robe, but I figured naked would do.

Of course, we will never know if the theatrical effect was quite as desired, but can hope.

I can guarantee you that that was a great success
Presuming they fully engaged in the event, I'm sure their minds were delicate enough for you to cause just a little doubt in their minds as to what really transpired in that moment :D

Only thing missing would of been some strange and wonderfully deep quote

"Behold, as a wild ass in the desert, go I forth to my work "

You at least gave them something to smile about, which is all anyone can hope for from all interactions

Robe, sheppard's crook and lantern, searching for an honest man.

Or carrying stone tablets.

Countless possibilities. But I had to work with the outfit and props I had readily available. Life is good. :D
