Well I am a big fan of this.

Some music festivals in Australia use a similar thing - it helps them identify who has been before and repeat attendees are "higher" up the list to be able to buy a ticket after the "lottery".

I also like the idea of, hopefully, being able to link various departments etc (I am sure that is coming).

I'm sure there will be teething problems but hey I think this is a step in the right direction.

Just showing up to Burning Man, year after year - is not exactly an accomplishment...

I do not believe years of attendance should be used to make one more privileged or deserving!

I did fill out the profile

Yes, the simple days are over and now we adapt to implementing the next part

the org asked me if I would plant Redwood trees
Yes, I did that also

what I have not yet decided is whether I care to deal with the brutal assholes of last year.

trilobyte wrote:Registered camps, vehicles, and art projects already have something of a permanent record, each department has their own electronic records going back many years (far longer than either you or I have been attending the event). The only consideration as far as directed tickets is concerned is "in good standing" - if a camp or project had a raft of complaints or issues, was involved in ticket scalping, or a record of serious MOOP map problems (not minor stuff, but solid red or black spots), then there could be a problem that affected directed ticketing. If a registered camp/project had something in their records that prevented them from being selected for directed ticketing last year, but they cleaned things up and had a great year on the playa in 2012 and gotten back into good standing again, then they'd potentially be eligible.

The intent of eventually expanding the program as far as I understand it is to help improve the registration process. I'm guessing you don't have much in the way of experience registering theme camps, mutant vehicles, or art projects but the questionnaires are long and tedious. And every field is blank for every project every year.

This...exactly this. Most people just don't realize that all the various stakeholders ALREADY do this. It's just housed in a myriad of Google docs, spreadsheets, databases, web sites, etc. Most are "roll your own" for the individual groups. This provides one place for us all to point people to and say "Go there, and we'll pull all your info from it. Please keep it current so we can call/email/send you stuff when needed."

This literally saves thousands, if not tens of thousands of man hours annually across all the groups dealing with volunteers/participants/staff. Really.

The profile was simple. Name and multiple addresses (mailing and email).
Duh!

I was hoping you all were worried about something juicy - like sexual preferences (should there be an "all of the above" button for Eric?) or latest misdemeanors...

This is nuthin'...

Eric is half of the above. You and I don't have a chance with him, Sunshine. He will get me drunk, however. (I cannot say whether or not he'd get you drunk. I'm not trying to one-up, I'm trying to explain as best I can.)

"do you prefer a knife, or a bomb?"

"how many years have you been involved in monitoring the Black Camps?"

"will you be flying, driving, taking the train, or burrowing in to Burning Man this year?"

"is this official, or off book activity?"

I have been info-mining the archives on this site, and read a commmemt Eric made about "nancy boys in tights". Tucked the reference away.
Yesterday, at the grocery, the cashier was a lovely lad, with his hair waxed in a Pee Wee peak, tight jeans, wearing makeup and sparkly red tennis shoes.
I nearly burst out laughing becuz the reference instantly made sense. :)

He is a very pretty boy, but he's going to have a tough time in redneckville.

I experienced a tinge of "I'm being weeded out because I haven't attended" ... that quickly washed away, though.

I omitted occupation and website, etc.

Did not seem relevant and things get hacked. Anything digital should be considered quasi-public if you're really anal about privacy.

I didn't ask my wife to create one, and we are only registering once for our pair of tickets. Here's to hoping I don't get gamed out of tickets.

Then again, I am not losing sight of the all-important mantra: Prepare and you shall burn.

made me think of the neighbors. Guy to the east has a big belly, and is full of conspiracy theories, and generally stirs up trouble.

Vacant lot to the west is maintained by the guy that lives to the southwest adjoining lot. He uses the west lot to 'exercise' his Rotweiler, often after dark. Sometimes he wears a headlamp.

I heard from EAST that 'suspicious activity' from WEST. WEST says he saw EAST' potbelly profile sticking out from behind the fir tree he was attempting to hide behind. WEST started playing mind f**k with EAST.

Both have told me the story from their perspective, but not to each other.
