A friend of mine is on that build crew and he led me to believe that project was for 2014.

This is a temple plan for 2014, whether it's accepted as THE TEMPLE by the Org, or the art is placed elsewhere, as a temple onto itself.
The Pier / Pier 2.0 Crew are already collecting recycled materials with the intent to get started a whole year early.

Reno never stops amazing me with ideas and execution.

Lots of people work on designs for temples at the event. It's entirely possible that's one group's design for something next year. It's also possible that it's one group's design to be submitted as a grant proposal either for the official/main temple, or as a random piece of playa awesomeness.

The deadline for art grant applications February 1st at noon, get your plans together and submitted by then for consideration.

As others have stated, that was a drawing posted on FB (and subsequently stolen and flung around cyberspace) by Matthew Schultz.. the creator of The Pier. He has been selected to create the 2014 temple.. and that is one of his first concept drawings.

I was waiting for some dimwit to post that. I knew it was coming.

I always make it a point to have at least one nice quiet lunch at the Temple every year. I know exactly where I want to sit if this is the design! 8)

Very true. At least they're entertaining.

Kind of.

Although.. I'll take spectating double digit IQs over redundant, self-deprecating, pseudo-intellectual babble any day.

Gwahahahahaha, this is in fact our temple design for 2014.

We are not hiding anything. We are going to build this in 2014 and I don't mind the picture circulating all around the world :). The plan is to start work in April, doing all the engineering and design before Burning Man 2013. Then in October we will begin what will be a seriously complex build. Both figures will be fully explorable (that is the plan) with cathedral structures in each chest, pilgrimage routes up the arms and viewing platforms in the heads looking back at one and other :). We have a whole bunch of other great ideas but you know, we are still working through the deeper details of this structure.

It will be all wood. Very organic. We think this is a deserving design for the Temple. However, we also understand that there are many great groups who would also like to do the temple. Our plan is to submit it for Temple in 2014 and if we are not picked we will make a second Temple meant to compliment the idea of a recurring spiritual heart in the city. I feel that the Man represents our hope for the future, The Temple represents our release from the past and that the Temple of Embrace will represent a reverence for the moment. A place for people to consider their relationships, both those that keep their hearts warm and those that hurt. Also, to be quite frank we think it will be really cool wandering around the insides of giant wooden tree people!

We would also love to get the community more involved by inviting people to make sculptural elements that speak of a relationship in there lives. I love how the temple fills with bits and pieces throughout the event. I think it would be great to push that forward even more.

I was waiting to start this conversation as I didn't want to detract from this years temple. Each Temple requires so much work and effort, and we do not want to take any steam away from whomever is doing this years temple. So please, don't speculate too much on our plans. Please spend more time helping years temple and when we are ready we will beg for your help (we need to raise an enormous amount of money,.........).

Ok, Matt AKA Janky AKA One of the Guys from The Pier Group, signing off :).

Ship is not sold. It is currently living in pieces in one of the crews backyards. We are working on finding a civic location to install it in. Currently, the City of Reno is looking into installing it crashed into the island in Virginia Lake which would be EPIC!

So, excuse me, ahem... can anyone point me to where the concept/sketch/final is for the design of the temple 2013?

I would be a newbie this year. The last temple (2012) was wonderful. That is a part of why we are trying so hard to make BM 2013... its an important element to us.

Nope. The temple has not yet been announced for the 2013 event. Expect that information to start trickling out slowly over the next several months. Honorarium art grants (which includes the temple) are usually announced in the spring, with the artists choosing how much or how little information they care to make available online about their projects before the event. Some like to keep things quiet and wow you when you discover it on the playa, while others post detailed information and updates about their project.

I have tried several times to make BM, but have been frustrated. Better effort this year, hence the interest... :D

Sacred Spaces did a Temple of Emergence in 2011 and had two figures like this but stretching towards each other instead of embracing.

We really like playing around with Silhouette figures.. and think it is a cool and fun project.. different than most of the temples.. like the Temple of Flux..

Yay doing things in new ways!!!
