Portland Oregon area theme camp

Postby MMburner » Tue Feb 07, 2012 6:19 pm

So it seems that a lot of people are short members this year for their theme camps. I normally have a smallish non-theme camp, but like everyone else, only a few people in my crew got tickets. So rather than camping all by my lonesome, I think this is a great opportunity to join a theme camp for a change. It will bring new experience and ideas to theme camps and bring non-theme campers together with the big camps.

So I'm looking to help out with a theme camp, preferably based in Portland, Oregon. Anyone need new members? I can do all kinds of helpful things, including providing amazing back massages :)

Welcome to the board!

You might like to have yourself added to local Oregon mailing lists if you're not on 'em already.

There are a lot of good theme camps in Portland but a couple weren't going this year and the others got royally hammered in the ticket lottery and things are pretty chaotic right now.

There will still be plenty of time, though, and opportunities to hook up at things like SOAK.

I second that. My husband and I are the only ones from our camp to get tickets so we thought this would be an amazing opportunity to join a camp. We moved from Reno to Portland over a year ago so we thought it would be ever better to join a Portland theme camp and meet new friends. We are handy, friendly and funny and whatever else you need us to be. Please contact us if you need our services!

There is a multicamp party 3/10 at the Refuge club in Portland. You don't even need to get your costume dusty.

Well, it's a difficult decision. I would love to join a camp but I do like the freedom of kinda doing what I want without some of the responsabilities of being in a camp. This year we will be 2 without any of our campmates and that's why we initially started thinking about joining a camp. Do any Portland people have interest in just creating a "camp" that would consist of people simply camping together and pooling resources and having some awesome people to party with?? We moved from Reno to Portland a year and a half ago and we thought this would also be an awesome way to meet fellow Portlanders. If you're interested please let me know and we'll talk.

Hey there. We are 2 virgins from Salem going this year. We have joined Camp DIY (www dot campdiy dot com) and are looking forward to it so much. DIY has a facebook page, too. We will also have some travel room in our RV if you are looking to possibly ride share. Drop me a line.

A camp strewn with duck decoys would be tres appropriate. Hipsters on bikes would be doubly so.

I say you have a Coos Bay subsection so the meth heads with 4x4s can have their own play area too..

They should combine with the Forest Grove and Hillsboro tweakers and form a totally dysfunctional village.

I'd love to have $10,000 and a 2 1/2 ton truck. It'd be an Andy N Bax burn for sure.

We are open to new members but so far our camp members are all virgins. Perhaps you can teach us a few things? Black Rock City Parks and Recreation has members in Portland/Vancouver, the gorge, Seattle, a few from other states and our mutant vehicle/equipment building base is in the gorge about 100 miles east of Portland. We can always use help and friendly advice:-) Still waiting to hear about placement but so far we are about 16 members. We did get the OK to bring a mutant vehicle, a 20 foot long windsurf board and sail with seating on the deck of the board. We ask for no dues but any physical help would be happily accepted. Our theme camp plan is for a 24'x32' bumper car park with foot powered bumper cars, swings, revolving teeter totters and misted park benches. Pretty mellow family friendly camp and low time commitment on playa although we are hoping everyone in the camp will volunteer with one of the many options available with greeters, ice, etc. We will have all the infrastructure for the camp like shower, kitchen and shade but expect members to bring their own water, personal gear, shelter and food. If you have not found a camp yet you are welcome and let me know if you have any interest:-)

A group of us from the Pacific Northwest, (mainly Portland) and other places are camping together in a very laid back "Theme Camp." Department of Experimentation and Research. (we made the list)

If anyone is interested in camping with us please email us at playascience@gmail.com

We have some great potluck food planned, no fees, no special uniform or handshake. We will hold space for you if you need a place to camp.

Our rules are: no Drama and don't be an asshole.

I'm from Portland and I'll be bringing a small non-placed non-theme camp. There's about 10 people in my group, most have been to the burn at least once (this will be my 4th year). We can be neighbors if you want.
In the previous years, we've camped in reasonable Center Camp proximity (inner alphabet, close to 6), this year we are discussing change of scenery, so we don't have a target spot yet.
I thought it would be cool to camp in the "suburbs" (a random spot on K or L), but everyone in my group got hysterical, when they heard this. So my other idea involves finding a spot with best proximity to both (a) portapotties and (b) an upright piano.

All of us are Russian-speaking, so we'll have lotsa Russian pop music; most of us are musi-capable, so we'll have a guitar and sing songs ourselves, for our own amusement :) We usually bring like a gallon of homemade pineapple infused tequila to share with everyone. This year I'm working on a small scale cardboard project, so we'll have a small lighted cardboard structure as well.
Let me know where you guys intend to pitch your home away from home!

Please, please, please come visit Apokalyptika. We will be murdering the Russian language and we hope to have an upright piano. I don't know if we have room for ten people (I don't know we don't) and I don't know if we have any members from Portland (Bay Area and Reno seem to be most represented), but you'd at least give us some credibility...

If you dare, read our website (Apokiliptika.com)... it outlines what we do, how we do it, and how you will be forced to, er, can participate.

What an interesting non sequitur!

I'm hoping to find an old piano to throw knives at a la Hemingway. I'll bring absinthe if you decide to murder the piano too!

A@3 sounds like "change of scenery" enough to me! Ask if there's still a smidgen of space for us to lay our footprint next to yours?
We're self sufficient enough to be a stand alone camp (have been, after all, for 3 years). We don't need to be fed, won't moop, or do anything completely retarded (I don't know what you think of Russians? We do drink zee vodka sometimes, but we won't start throwing glass bottles in drunken frenzy, or bring a bear as our 10th person), and I personally would be willing to help out with whatever you need. I don't have an early pass yet, but there's a chance - and then I could even help with setup.
Our cargo space is really, really tight. We're trying to figure out how to transport 2 extra carports (previously, we'd just have a 6-person tent for our common area) via household sedans, and I just don't see it fitting. If we could semi-join a bigger camp then, instead of trying to increase our common quarters and our footprint, we could use that cargo space for something more fun, something that we could share with your camp. Hmmm... more pineapple tequila? Will you peeps have a bar? You could serve our tequila then :) It's delicious, tastes like punch, and you don't even feel it, but then sneaks up on ya like truЪ tequila.

And of course I'd love to hear you try to murder the Russian language, I wonder how that's going to go!
Like I mentioned, every one of us is Russian speaking, but only half are actually from Portland. The other half is from the Bay Area.

Well, I hope it wasn't the half from the bay area's soviet ephemera collection I just bought from the thrift store... Although, that would be good in some nightmarish movie--give away your childhood stuff and then find out your new and crazy landlady bought it all and expects you to sit there and listen to here weird stories looking at stuff you thought you'd never have to see again...

Suzanne (Bay Bridge Sue) is the one to make final decisions and there are dues, but we have some room.

Hi everyone,

Starting the process of finding a fun theme camp I can volunteer and camp with. Any plans yet for 2013 theme camps? Wine expert here and lots of restaurant background. Low maintenance, no drama and live in Portlandia :D Bringing a 59 airstream and a virgin friend. Now I need a ticket!
