Not that i think the biggest names are the best shows, i'm just curious who has played that I wouldn't expect to play in the middle of the desert.

N2F what is your instrument and what musical genre is your interest?

ePlaya is very snarky, the burningman event is not. But even the snarkiest here offer huge amounts of experience and knowledge. There was a long discussion on ePlaya critical of electronic dance music, fans of it at the event, all of the litter-MOOP they produce, sexual assault connected with dance camps and whether the DJ schedules should be a secret. So any discussion of EDM will revive all of that.

You can also search ePlaya for acoustic or your genre.

Thanks Some Seeing Eye. Guess i just have to get used to the snarkiness here.

I play guitar and bass and meddle in all genres across the board. What ever sounds good and makes people move

and how exactly do you know what I seek? I'm just making conversation and asking questions. Not to get too deep on ya, but assuming you know things about other people is an easy way to miss out on great opportunities...

So we have a conversation. Great.

We sense a passive spectator. Burning Man has too much of that.

Just go. If you have something to contribute, creative energy or participation of some sort (even compiling a list of musicians) then Burning Man will be richer for it.

Like you said, it's not a music festival. So what is Burning Man, then? Tell me.

I see what your getting at, and thats a valid point. Hard for me to say, I can't define what I haven't experienced. But I know participation is largely what makes burning man what it is and have every intention of respecting that. Hoping to join a friends theme camp and if not come up with what ever I can manage to bring on my own to the table.

Research 2012 theme camps from the main burningman website looking for those who do live music. Private message them.
Connect to your regional(s).
Start a new thread with topic 'seeking live musicians to play xxx'. Don't be vague on genre, give artists and year dates. Better to do in July.
Search ePlaya and private message musicians.
Focus on contributing to your camp in the first year, saving BM from whatever can come later. First year is surviving BM.

Live musicians playing for dancers at BM is very rare in the scheme of things. There are sitting audiences and in-camp jams if you seek them.

My suggestion: prepare for your own survival, and don't even bother looking into/thinking about what you might see or do.
