Hot Apple Pie drink recipes

Postby junglesmacks » Mon Nov 19, 2012 6:34 am

Trying to make a good (STRONG) sneak attack drink for Thanksgiving this year to really loosen up the family and help everybody get weird. Hot apple pie drinks usually do the trick, so I've been searching for a decent one online.

Anyone have a favorite?

So far, it's looking like this one:

1 gallon apple juice
1 cup brown sugar
1 tsp. apple pie spice
1 tbs. vanilla
3 cinnamon sticks

simmer 30 mins, let cool to room temp, remove cinnamon sticks.

Then add:
3 cups Everclear
1/2 cup Goldschalger
1/2 cup Buttershots

I remember having a drink that tasted like an apple pie and involved grain alcohol, but other than that I have no idea what went on. Partly because someone else was making them, and partly because I was drinking 'em down without any difficulty.

On a less stronger-drink note, a couple friends of mine is quite partial to an apple pie drink made with vanilla vodka and limeade. I think it's supposed to have a tiny bit of cinnamon as well, but every time I've had one they've been out of cinnamon (you'd think they'd be buying that stuff in bulk).

The one you've posted sounds intriguing, keep us posted on how it goes.

1 ounce apple juice (float it on)
1 ounce vodka
dash of cinnamon

when the cinnamon hits the bottom, shoot it

That drink sounds really tasty. I've never made an apple pie drink, but have been doing some batches of apple cider that have been turning out really great. Buy some unfiltered, pasteurized apple juice w/o any preservatives in it, and ferment it with nottingham yeast. Ends up tasting like Martinelli's with about 6-7% alcohol.

So.. I ended up making the batch a littttttle bit ahead of time. There was no way that I could let those beautiful bottles of liquor sit on my counter!

I ended up letting it simmer for almost 2 hours to boil off some of the water and get a more concentrated mix as per a couple of other suggestions that I read.

Let it cool about 10 mins.. and then added the liquor. Poured myself a nice glass with some whipped cream on top.. and I was BREATHING FIRE! Delicious.. but uh.. *oof*.. a little hot in the belly.

I let it fully cool.. and then put some over ice.. and VOILA! That's the way it was meant to be. Magically, no more overbearing heat.. and almost no taste of liquor.. yet one small glass and I was nicely buzzed. Very strong and just about perfect apple pie tasting.

Next time, I would let it simmer the same amount to boil off some water.. but cut the sugar content by about 30%-50%. Apple juice has so much sugar in it anyway that boiling down the mix only concentrates it further. You don't need much additional sugar. I also bumped up the butterscotch liqueur content as it just tastes better! A little vanilla vodka might do it well also. I would also like to experiment with using actual apple cider instead of apple juice.

Overall.. this ones a winner! Can't wait to get the family tanked on turkey day..

A camp member came back to camp one afternoon with a water bottle full of this stuff, it was very tasty;

The only thing I suggest is to add butter to your recipe, it really makes it taste like actual apple pie....of course, it's not the healthiest addition, but man is it delicious!!
