Pershing County Jail Sucks!

Postby dontaskIwonttell » Tue Nov 13, 2012 12:11 am

I had the unfortunate experience of visiting the above after sharing some shrooms with a FAKE cinderella on the playa - which triggered a series of events, including my probation in San Francisco being violated and a FELONY warrant being issued while in jail. In hindsight, it should have been so obvious. Some dumb ass 40 something broad dressed as cinderella with her cohort fairy in tow asked my friends if we wanted to party. I wasn't too interested (they weren't even good looking and usually when I'm high everything looks good - at least from afar anyway) so my pals were drooling all over the place (a light bulb should have went off but didn't).

To make a long story short I was the one who got caught with the shrooms (and a few other things), I knew something was wrong the moment I handed them over - she was just way too anxious, I know free drugs are free drugs but she was like way too happy. It took about 20 seconds for several sheriff's/rangers (some dressed like burners) to crash our party. Lucky for my friends they got off with a warning but i was charged with felony possession/distribution.

I knew the risk when I brought drugs to BM, but what I didn't know was how sh!tty the pershing co. justice system is. I specifically told the deputies that I'm GAY and they purposely screwed with me. The harassment from the cops was unbelievable. An occasional gay joke is one thing but some of the deputies were complete A-HOLES. They made it a point to harass and subject me to dangerous situations. First, they are not supposed to mix gays with other inmates. I was in the general population area for 4 days before finally being placed in a one man cell. During this time I was moved around several different times for no apparent reason other than to subject me to the worst inmates in the jail. Thankfully nothing bad happened but how dumb can these idiots be???

Since I have priors court took longer than it should have (everyone else from BM were getting deals) and when I was finally able to take a plea it did little good b/c the court in California already found out i was arrested and revoked my probation. Basically, I spent 6 weeks in Pershing Co. hell and I would like to give a big F-U to the idiots that run that place and the fake cinderella that was going around flipping burners.

I should sue them for the harassment and emotional stress they caused me (and I've been to jail before so I know what it is supposed to be like) but as I'm still in the process of getting my *new* probation transferred to Cali I might wait for that to happen first before I really give Pershing Co. a big F-U.

Well, maybe your post will serve as a good warning to others. I'll link it when other new folks ask about how "cool" Nevada is on the subject of illegal substances. We could also arguably move this thread to the "Experiences at Burning Man" forum--although then might some folks complain that you didn't Introduce Yourself.

So, uh . . . what part of Cali are you from, and what are you like when you're not getting arrested? ;) Do you make art? Do you build? Do you dance? How many Burns have you been to?

I only had the vaguest memory that gay inmates were meant to be kept apart from other inmates, though I can understand why. The powers that be can probably argue (whether or not it's true) that there wasn't enough space to give you your own cell. Good luck with making a stir about that, though.

And welcome to ePlaya. Cinderella & the Pershing County Jail (which is the name of my new band) are unlikely to see your "F-U", and you're probably about to get some mild-to-moderate razzing for your part in the matter. But it's still probably easier than the 6 weeks you spent in the pokey.

P.S. We have plenty of 40-year-olds here. It's the least of our crimes.

Thanks for the warm greeting. I'm from San Francisco so I may be a little bit biased on how things are supposed to be.... I didn't mean to put down older people but when someone 15+ years older than you is trying to hit on you - especially if that person is a female, a huge red flag should be popping up in your head. If I was by myself this whole thing would never have happened b/c the narc was really THAT ugly but a few of my friends were all starry-eyed just to be getting a little attention.

And word to the wise - it doesn't take a cop to do a cop's job. People were flipping left and right. Those "plea" deals didn't just fall into peoples' laps, if you CO-OPERATED (or were CO-OPTED by the cops) then the deals magically appeared.

I was arrested on my first day so I didn't get to enjoy BM much. And the 6 weeks in jail was just for pershing co. I was extradited back to San Francisco (and waited 3 more weeks for a court date) but luckily I was given credit for time served (but I had my original probation extended 2 more years)

So basically the moral of the story is DONT TRUST ANYONE YOU DONT KNOW!!!

Too bad you weren't part of ePlaya sooner; we've had whole threads of outrageous warnings--about naked undercover cops dancing around on platforms at raves, signaling their hidden co-workers in the crowd; really persistent strangers practically begging civilians to take gifts or trades. Etc. The Survival Guide also has a page about it.

So--what made you ignore your better judgment? Was it substances themselves, or was it optimism, or some third thing? That interests me.

I'll admit you're probably not going to get a @#$%ton of sympathy for 1) making mistakes and 2) slamming the intensely foxy 40 year olds among us, but IF you survive the snark onslaught once everyone on the East Coast wakes up, and have other redeeming qualities, you might like it here on ePlaya. (No promises.)

I'm quite serious, feel free to list your talents and hobbies so that people have a chance to like you. :)

I am a bit skeptical of the story here. Let me explain why.

Pershing County is the poor stepchild of wealthier parts of Nevada. It's mostly open range and retired people. The love/hate relationship with Burning Man has much to do with the money that can be squeezed out of the participants in the form of fines. Anything with dollars attached to it will do. The Sheriff really doesn't care about the health and well being of the BM participants with their drug enforcement, but rather the money that they can get out of them.

The story that is told by the OP would have been an expensive ordeal to prosecute by Pershing County. They simply don't want to spend money on BM, they don't want to jail people, they don't want to prosecute people---THEY JUST WANT YOUR MONEY.

The story told above, appears to be some sort of warning not to do anything so serious as to get arrested, but just serious enough for Pershing County to give you a big fat ticket.

I am going to call out this poster as a law enforcement person trying to play a game here!

I have to agree with Lucky. You, my man, are a moron. It's not all that easy to get arrested and you seem to have made it an art form. And you're gay, so what? That's supposed to mean something to redneck rural yahoo cops? You may as well wear a sign that reads "Fuck With Me". And you insist on special privileges and not being housed with the general prison population? Who do you think you are, Alec Baldwin? Sorry, but ye reap what ye shall sow.

Oh, and welcome to the ePlaya. Your home when you're not in jail.

so, what is so outrageous about an older woman hitting on a younger guy? Happens all the time. Not a whole lot different than an older man hitting on a younger woman.

Playing the illegal activities game with unknown people...that is dumb and stupid...you got what the law and BM info you would get for doing what you did.

Hmmmm.....
I'm typically a pretty nice guy, try to welcome folks.
But you sir, are an idiot.

You were giving away drugs while on Probation?
Then you're complaining when you were held in jail for felony warrant?
Please show me a mandate/law/ordinance/anything where LGBT inmates are REQUIRED to be separate from General Population? Some jails and prisons do separate inmates for the LGBT inmates safety, but its a choice by the detention facility, not a law.

Either, you're a troll or an Ass-hat idiot.
Please don't come back.
And please don't stain the street of Black Rock City with your stupidity.

I thank you for posting your cautionary tale.

And there is law about protecting inmates in custody.
And, it is standard practice to place people, gay or not, in threatening situations, for intimidation purposes or just amusement.
Doc, you would be singled out yourself.
You don't have to actually commit a crime to be in jail.

It could be any random reason, but I was thinking if they decided you were better off than they are.
Or, they could treat you better, and prosecute you more harshly, for profit or personal reasons.

No guarantees.

Interesting idea, Shambala.

I'm ignorant of Pershing County procedure. However, I did think it was unusual for someone as well-spoken as the OP to have been so taken in by undercover law enforcement, although really, let's be honest--I'm way overdue to be cited at Burning Man for jay-walking and disturbing the peace. (If anyone can manage that at Burning Man, I can.)

But I digress. The initial post is well-written. The poster is educated, and clearly not stupid, even if he has steep errors in judgment while intoxicated. And let's be honest--the average post from someone who has been cited or arrested is less eloquent, and more confused. Smart people get caught too, but they don't normally seek sympathy; they either keep quiet in their embarassment, or say "OMG, you guys I totally screwed up. Haha! Pass me a beer, Yggy."

Which is why I am so curious as to what happened to the OP (if they are not, in fact, law enforcement). Were the drugs simply that strong? And what is the attraction to "gifting" a "40 something broad" if one is younger and gayer, and has never seen that 40-something broad before?

Inquiring minds want to know.

The term broad usually dates someone to at least the age of 60+. That's not a bad thing, it's just an observation. (hey Morty, wouldja check out the rack on that broad over there?)

Is the eyeroll for me?

The character's name in B.C. is "The Fat Broad".

Or was the eyeroll for the thread poster, because as a homosexuality enthusiast he is unaware at which points dames turn into broads?

To evolve a Dame into a Broad, you need two Gameboy Colors, 2 copies of the game cartridge, and a transfer cable.

Edit: Say! Would you look at who has trouble reading for context?!

The only reason I'm sharing my story on here is b/c I'm trying to learn more about others experience with pershing co. Like I was saying nothing really bad happened to me (besides being harassed by the cops and a few inmates for being gay) BUT I'm surprised there isn't more discussion on here about the jail b/c they were really filling that place up. And to the poster that suggests I was asking for special privileges while in jail that is not true - I know from experience San Francisco and even the dreaded LA Co. jail SEPERATES gay inmates from general population, both during housing and for transportation purposes. And the transportation part may be the most important - I was cited in Hollywood last year for drug possession (yes I have a bit of a substance abuse problem) and my court case went through down-town LA. That had to be the scariest experience ever. I was lucky that going to and from court i had my own "cage" on the bus but others in general population didn't. A jail gang known as the "south siders" (basically if your hispanic you're a "south sider" once you enter jail) stabbed someone (one of their own) on the bus and it took over 20 minutes for the deputies to find out. It wasn't until we were getting off the bus that they finally discovered someone was stabbed - that is how little the deputies cared. If I had been mixed in with the general population it is almost a guarantee that i would have been either assaulted (physically or sexually) or worse.

Pershing Co. may not be as bad BUT still, gay inmates are not supposed to be mixed with the general population. One of the "cell mates" i had thought it was funny to call me his "bitch." But then whenever he needed something we were supposed to be friends - and no not everyone in pershing jail was a burner. I'm seriously considering a lawsuit against pershing co for the emotional distress I endured while in their custody. And I'm surprised there isn't more information on this subject - I guess everyone else is able to make bail, I was unable to b/c my probation was violated in San Francisco thanks to the A-Hole deputies calling my probation officer, so a NO BAIL warrant was issued for me while in jail. I now have a 16 month suspended sentence hanging over my head, meaning if I miss a pee test or something petty like that the court will automatically send me to jail. The only good news is thank god it wont be in pershing co.

TROLL
40-somthing broad isn't something written by a well-spoken individual.
"...I wasn't too interested (they weren't even good looking and usually when I'm high everything looks good...." Not the words of a Gay. Those are the words of a scornful Tweenie.
"...First, they are not supposed to mix gays with other inmates..." complete bullshit!
"...I should sue them for the harassment and emotional stress they caused me..." Empty threat. A) you have no evidence! Witness names? exact instances that can be backed by 2-3 other people who are not inmates? B.)Pretty sure if you are dumb enough to hand drugs to a total stranger while packing other drugs and on probation, you are the same kind of person Dumb enough to make idle threats. C.) Bet you a dollar you are the kind of Dumbass that now has unfinished court business in Preshing Co. You didn't make bail so, Either the Judge thought you were a complete reject or your friends and/or family do too. And the Fine? are you paying on that, current? So you don't have a legal leg to stand on with a lawsuit.

Just put your AssHat back on and quit being a dumbass.

I think the answer to your first question is pretty simple - you let your guard down when you're at an event like BM. And it wasn't like the cinderella wanted to buy drugs she just wanted to "party." And I wasn't even interested with her anyway even if she was younger. Her friend (who was dressed as a fairy )was younger but she seemed kind of shy. Unfortunately I was the designated go to person for party favors so either way I guess the situation was going to end badly

Though I did something dumb and got busted for it i have to give the narcs credit - they have some balls sending in two women to do their dirty work
