POST ALTERNATE LOCATIONS FOR BM 2013

Cargo Cult - Who is John Frum? He is known to us by many names, this Visitor from Elsewhere, dispenser of endless abundance and wielder of mysterious technologies: John Frum, Quetzalcoatl, Osiris, "Bob." His cargo is splendid, his generosity boundless, his motives beyond our understanding. But across the ages and around the world, the stories all agree: one day he will return, bearing great gifts. Our theme this year asks three related questions; who is John Frum, where is he really from, and where, on spaceship Earth, are we all going?

There seems to be a dry lake bed next to Summer Lake Hot Springs in southeast Oregon:

I don't know anything about who owns it or how big it is, but I do know that the folks who run the hot springs are burner friendly.

There! Yes there! (Or else at Larry Harvey's place. After all, if he's on the playa, he won't be using it.)

The big island, next to kilauea.

Won't need a match to light the Man, just push him into the caldera.

For what it's worth, I believe there will be a couple regional burns in Hawaii next year in the April/May timeframe, on Oahu and Big Island.

If I'd been by myself, or at least not with my parents, I might have stopped off to check out who the trailer (at least I think it was a trailer) with the Man logo on it belonged to while I was on my way to visit the caldera on the Big Island.

DAMMIT, I want to go back to Hawaii some time, with more time, money, and other resources for exploring! (I like my parents, but my Mom really can't get around any more, and my dad wants to pack too much into a day, so we end up not really having any time for actual exploring.) And also I want a better guidebook. Despite what the one we had said, we COULD have taken an all wheel drive vehicle to visit the green sand beach, and, therefore, have actually had time to go down to it and mess around in the surf (along with all the folks who didn't know you couldn't take an all wheel drive vehicle out there.)

Rule of thumb...Believe it when the guidebook says no. Don't believe it when the car rental agency says no.

Well, the guidebook said "no" and was wrong, and the rental agency wasn't asked. If I get back there, I will rent an all wheel drive if I can.

I may also take time to examine up close the out of commission wind generators elsewhere on the island.

Infrastructure kind of defeats the radical self-reliance aspect.

If we are talking serious locations, keeping the "remote" and "desolate" aspects is probably desirable, as that also tends to keep prying eyes away. (Not completely away-- even if TTITD got moved to the Moon, people would still try to spy via their telescopes.)

Darn. It has been five minutes and I still can't think of anything clever to add. I should probably just post what I've written and go back to bed. I'll probably only do one of the two, though.

All the locations should be put out for bid by the various local governments involved. Lets see if Capitalism can work. This might result in a reduction in ticket prices and control the over exuberance of local law enforcement.

How local? Some third world governments might offer some real sweet deals..., and use of their military.

There seems to be dried lake beds near Sedona az. Imagine what an exhilarating experience an environment with several energy vortexes would provide. :))

Oh, I predict amazing things if BM was to be moved to Tanna island in Vanuatu.

The population is only 20,000.

It will take some clear cutting, but I think that there is a reasonably flat enough spot:

Sevier Lake Bed along highway 50 in Utah. Just west/southwest of Delta. Don't know how the access is.
Several years ago while driving north on l 15 near Nephi, l could see dust in the air from Sevier Lake Bed. Reminded me of the Balck Rock Desert.
