Nandekore? It's a Japanese pancake/pizza with shredded cabbage, egg and a bevy of other ingredients and a savory brown sauce.

Well this one looks like it might have bacon on it. So even if all the other ingredients were missing, it would still be good.

The homeless "problem" at my local urban park is getting some attention from the residents. They are proposing extreme solutions, such as hiring a security guard, or building a fence around the park. Eurgh. It's not that bad; mostly it's hobos hijacking the barbecue area.

I proposed sticking with getting the cops to enforce law-breaking by anyone - starting with sleeping overnight in the park.

So tonight I am going out into the park with another guy, and we're going to take video of anybody who is sleeping there. If we post enough of these vids to Youtube, then the police will have to take action.

how is the trash/needles/dangerous stuff? if that's not so bad, well.
tough spot, huh? you have a place your neighborhood likes, maybe even takes pride in....and it's overrun.
Yet, people gotta be somewhere.
But you guys pay for it, probably to a point, care for it, and help keep it clean, no?

how about radical self reliance, and neighborhood watch and patrol, asking them to leave?
Let the cops do other stuff?
and get a key to the sprinkler system?

you think the cops will car about videos? well, I'm skeptical.
how about, anyone who does not want to ask them to leave, but still wants a nice park, make a camping spot on their lawn?
if it's nicer and less hassle than the park, they'd come stay there.

The growing number and size of homeless encampments reminds me of what I read about the great depression. There were some safety issues and clashes back then too, things seemed to get better after the times got better. Hopefully things get better all-round sooner rather than later, otherwise the encampments will start to be like the ones in and around cities in southeast Asia.

Good luck with your mission and be safe, UD.

When the first Bush got into office. The streets were crowded with families living out of shopping carts. Slick Willie come along and hired enough to cut the welfare rolls by 45%. ( He hired then as welfare case workers). a few have tried to camp in our woods. When asked to leave by the police. Most had some sort of mental problems.. When the Reagan was in he cut the criteria for mental illness and dumped the sick on the streets. Then little Bush started a war(or two). This made room at the bottom of the ladder and the jails/prisons are filled up with the mental ill. Now people are coming home from the wars all fucked up.. Most can't cope with working a job and end in the streets.. The Mitt wants in so he can cut off the food and housing or anything else.. Those boy with in the big money need MORE!!

Geez, UJ, I don't expect local politics to have any bearing on my local situation. And I don't expect a pack of strangers in DC to solve my problems for me.

Yee ha, here's how burners do it:

If it's okay with you, Ygmir, I will put them all on a bus to GV. ;)

My plan is just to make things uncomfortable from them by calling them on every time they break the law. Squeaky wheel and all that.
I also want to get some input from local homeless advocates. Maybe they'd like to do an outreach. Weather's getting cold you know.

I was just pointing out that your local problem is a trickle down effected from the stranger in DC.

how about we quit always pointing fingers, and do something, UJH: it's easy (and maybe appropriate) to point fingers.
Dougly, is talking, and rightly so, about local solutions to local problems....
yeah, send 'em here.......but it's much colder, a far smaller county, with less services. we don't have a homeless shelter, that I know of. Our county gives em bus tickets to
Sacramento.

It's great, Dougly, that you want to star with a gentle approach.......on human terms. I so hope it can work. You can always default to sprinklers and calling in the hounds..........and of course, that can be predicated from the make up of the camp itself..........Is it a "group?", if so, are they organized and have any particular attitude or demand? or is is disparate folks, all coming to one spot, all with individual stories and agendas?
Thing is, at some point, you can't just have that happen..........your nice spot taken over.Or, surrender it, and live with fond memories of "what was".........

Thanks! Nah, they are not a "camp" yet.

I'm hoping we can gently remind them that this theme camp is taken, so to speak. Like we do at home. :)

If you're not trying playa principles in Defaultia, then what does it mean?

Sorry, don't want to talk politics in the Bar. Who's pouring drinks? Is this Saturday night or is this Saturday night?

Happy Halloween, Barpeeps. Hope all are well and that Sandy hasn't devastated any of your lives directly. Hard not to be impacted in some way. The real mess is just starting for so many. How about a round for the first responders. Cheers!
