Good morning everyone and thanks for the breakfast (((LF))).

I am down in the country with my mother today; she was cold last night so I turned on the heat for her but this morning it's gray rain and 70+ degrees out. Muggy muggy muggy. Back to the AC!

If the skies brighten for 5 minutes I will go for a bike ride. Cross your fingers for me please!

I just discovered my boss has a nickname for me that he's been using with some of our off-site people.

Burning Woman.

I love it.

I call him Chuckles with the same people, so it's all good.

I'm jealous.

But I did have a funny comment from my boss this morning.

I have a bandaid on my neck from a curling iron mishap, and my (very stoic, reserved, 50-something) boss said "Were you bitten by a vampire?"

I burst out laughing (and he started giggling himself).

"UNFORTUNATELY, I was not."

Still laughing, he says, "'Cause of all the people I know likely to be bitten by a vampire, it'd be you."

I put my hand to my heart, genuinely touched, and thanked him for it.

(He is so supportive of the fact that I'm a Burner.)

In all fairness, no one had heard of it before I went. It's just not part of the culture on the East Coast as it is out west. I'm constantly amazed by how many people have never even heard of it in the news or anywhere else.

And I may have been talking about it constantly since I got back. Usually prompted by a question.

I actually offered to take his daughter next year. She's finishing her last year or art school and has become quite a good welder. She'd probably fit in better than me.

Shot & a beer? Count me in, MDF!

Weather's been unseasonably toasty around here for the last few days, though it's nothing compared to the roaster they've been getting down in LA. They say it'll be gone soon (before SF decom on Sunday), back to the usual nice-but-not-too-warm during the daytime dipping down to kind of chilly at night.

If that line's not sig-worthy, I don't know what is!!!

Soooo... where's the shots and beers??? I brought some munchies...

Maple Bacon Caramel Corn
Diced bacon (home cured is best if you have it) . . . . . . . . . Roasted Spanish Peanuts. . . . . . . . Brown Sugar . . . . . Maple Syrup
Cayenne pepper . . . . . . . . .Baking Soda. . . . . . . . . .Butter. . . . . . . . . Sea Salt. . . . . . . . . Popcorn

Preheat the oven to 250. Cook the bacon till it’s just underdone and not quite crisp. Pour off and reserve the fat. If you’re using a stovetop popcorn popper, pop the corn with some of the bacon fat. In a sauce pan mix brown sugar, maple syrup and a mixture of butter and bacon fat in a 2:1:1 ratio, season liberally with Cayenne pepper. Once the mixture has begun to boil, whisk to be sure the sugar has completely dissolved and add a small pinch of baking soda. In a bowl toss the popcorn, bacon, peanuts and caramel together to coat everything evenly. Spread the mixture on a baking sheet and bake for about 30 minutes to take some of the stickiness out of the caramel. Taste for seasoning and sprinkle with a little sea salt if necessary. Open a beer and enjoy.

Sounds like burning man!!!

By the way, I'm throwing a round of makers for the house - - This weekend, I am doing some rudimentary survey work (the old fashioned way unless I can find a transit, compass, level, and chain) to entertain the idea of a reinforced shop and pole barn for the vehicles... to suppliment the shop, of course. Looking at a departure sooner rather than later, and want to be ready to work on post-EMP vehicles for fun (and hopefully profit)...

(Damn, busy pouting shots and missed the Pluot. That's OK... I'll do one of those too!!! ;) )

Pluot is Plum and Apricot. It makes a liquour that is... um... indescribably delicious.
