Can't beat that with a stick, but we'd go pester the grease monkeys at the auto shop a couple blocks away for used engine bearings and jam them onto the ends of whittled-down 2x4s to make super-fast street coasters that could do a 360 at the bottom of the hill.
Of course, we had paved streets, and didn't have to wade through snow uphill both ways.
