Theme Predictions for 2013

Cargo Cult - Who is John Frum? He is known to us by many names, this Visitor from Elsewhere, dispenser of endless abundance and wielder of mysterious technologies: John Frum, Quetzalcoatl, Osiris, "Bob." His cargo is splendid, his generosity boundless, his motives beyond our understanding. But across the ages and around the world, the stories all agree: one day he will return, bearing great gifts. Our theme this year asks three related questions; who is John Frum, where is he really from, and where, on spaceship Earth, are we all going?

Yeah, I realized I had misunderstood his question (and thus edited my message). Those would be good street names for Evolution, if they were alphabetical. Though 2009 already claimed Evolution.

I'm guessing Rebirth. Since the world is supposed to end this year, it will be the first year without looming doom. :)

Doom never goes out of style. For some reasons, people like to believe that the world is ending soon. It goes back at least as far as John of Patmos. Don't worry--after December it will only take a few months before people find some other date to obsess about.

i'm glad the OP brought this up.

why does this event need a theme anyway. i didn't notice anything related to fertility so how is the theme even relevant to the actual goings-on at the event?

I kid... of course... we need a theme because that is how you make the theme-making-people feel useful.

So, let's cut to the chase.

How about a slightly different perspective on time? http://www.popsci.com/science/article/2012-09/book-excerpt-there-no-such-thing-time

So maybe rather than Time Travel, the theme could be... Timeless.

Maybe a Rainbow theme?

Amber
Blue
Carmine
Drab
Ebony
Fluorescent
Green
Heliotrope
Indigo

Or, more generally, weather?
When he lights his streetlamp, it is as if he brought one more star to life, or one flower.
When he puts out his lamp, he sends the flower, or the star, to sleep.
That is a beautiful occupation.

rainbow would be Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet--the classic seven for Roy G. Biv...
Although, I never understand why there were two kinds of blue... You could add on Infra-Red and Ultra-Violet.
Or go way past the not-quite-visible spectrum to radio waves and x-rays.

Or, for weather:
Alto-cirrus (is that right?)
B
Cloud
D
E
Flurry, Freeze
G
Hail
Ice

Most of the weather related words I can think of are so end of the alphabet: Rain, Snow, Sun, Thunder--well, Lightening might happen...

I recently read that Newton was into the number 7, and Indigo was named into the spectrum as a color to bring the number up to a pleasing 7. I've also read that Orange and Indigo were added later to bring the spectrum from 5 colors to 7, to match the whole note musical scale.

I think it was because Roy needed a vowel in his last name.

All of those at once. Newton could have liked seven because back then we had seven planets. Or at least alchemcy did. All that mystic 7 stuff pre-dated the enlightenment by millienia. Or at least centurys.

I have the feeling 2013 will be centered around water in some way. I had a dream about being at the burn where 1/4 mile around the man in a circle was a pool and they made a lightning storm to ignite the man... don't know that we'll get quite there, but, I do feel water will be at the pinnacle of 2013's theme.
