What project are you procrastinating on?

Post by Bounce530 » Tue Aug 07, 2012 12:59 pm

Here are are coming down to the final weeks and with the ticketing issues I know I for one am way behind on usual preparations. So, as a yang to the "one item a day" ying, what are you slackin on?

Within the last couple weeks I've been busy painting the camp sign, making gifts, working on the van that is my transport to the playa, and a few other little art projects. All of this has been going on in my garage where the playa bikes are, and every time I go into the garage to work on something I push the bikes deeper into the garage out of the way, saying to myself, "Man, I need to change the tubes, change the batteries in the LED's, rework some of the lighting, grease the bearings, etc"

I don't know why I'm procrastinating on getting the bikes prep'ed, but it's something that needs to be done, and done soon! I have only three more "weekend" days before we leave. :o

I am procrastinating on....

Almost everything.

Procrastinating on my bike as well, although a quick check a month ago suggests it won't be too much work. The chain flexed when pushed on, so that's a good sign.

I also was building a quadcopter to fly a small camera over art projects for aerial photos. Ran into electrical snags and just sort of dropped the entire $300 project. I guess I got intimidated because I don't understand what is wrong. None of my techie friends had the time to take a look.

I was putting off a sewing project until just last night, then suddenly picked it up and did the upcycle on some pants as part of a White Wednesday (and wedding) outfit. The jacket will be more intricate and involve some hand sewing, but nice to get that at least half done. But...lets see if I actually do the hard part of this project before I leave in one week's time.

This is gonna be a last minute burn prep for me. I have a huge impending task of my mother's final effects... can't think of any other way to say she's going soon and my sister and I are working to help her. I have everyone's blessing to attend burning man. They fear it will ruin me if I don't go after our year of trials.

So packing and moving won't be for burning man necessarily.

Uh... my PhD dissertation.

All my Burning Man stuff's ready and double- or triple-checked, though. 'Cuz, y'know, that has more impact on my future career and all.

procrastination? I own this thread.

All my burning man stuff is still in the basement.
I haven't planned or shopped food situation yet.
Few of my burning man projects (heck, I even moved the deadline for some projects to next year).

As usual, I'm taking forever to decide what to wear, and haven't made enough gifts.

Nothing vital to my survival is left undone, however.

True. I could wear (and give away) lashings of eyelash glue.

I keep pushing off doing the fur jacket, cloak, and making a horse head for my bike/steed.

Now I'm considering adding Glow in the Dark paint to our camp sign. Will it glow for a while or need black light, hmmm?

JovReef, they make black light LEDs on keychains. Dunno if they'd be powerful enough for recharging the paint on you entire sign, but they're small and cheapish.

When I was at the Wal-store getting some paint I noticed a bottle of glow in the dark paint and thought I could use it for my camps sign, but reading the label, it said it glowed for 15 minutes after exposure. So back on the shelf it went.

That's a mad coincidence. I'm not learning Russian either!

I used to know a fair amount, but it's been so long I'm too embarrassed to speak anymore.

Last year I took great pains to use lots of glow in the dark paint and silkscreen ink on our stuff. None of it would glow on the playa. Apparently the glow is so faint even the thinnest coat of dust hides it. It worked fine before we arrived and nearly a year later it still glows, but it was useless at ttitd.

It did glow well under uv light on the playa though.

hehehe... I'm sitting here with my half finished sewing project in my lap. My husband and I played a board game (that we absolutely hated) TWICE last night instead of going to the metal shop and finishing the cart... I haven't bought my rebar... or my PVC.... I was suppose to make 50 additional gifts.. I have..... 8 done. So.. really a better question is what am I not procrastinating on.

BUT today I made a list... certainly now that there is a list, all will be done.
Right...

Illy, forget about a dome cover, get the little guys a bunch of sunscreen :)

I have a lot to do, but don't feel like I'm procrastinating on anything. When I'm not working on some project that still needs to be done, it's because i'm working on some other fun thing. I had wanted to go through the stuff in our storage space weeks ago, but juggling projects is a bit like trying to get a rubik's cube solved… just finally got some stuff in place yesterday, so I started on that today. I really would have liked to have gotten to the dump today to get rid of all the stuff I don't need, but by the time I finished up it was too late in the day to make that happen. Get 'er done!!!

Are you kidding?
I've only had a ticket since Friday!
First is getting the car ready to do the haul. Go a new high-pressure steering hose in on the weekend. Today was electrical contacts with dielectric, fluids checked, new thermostat in, full adjustment of caster, camber and toe-in, but the damn wheels won't come off to check the rear brake adjustors... Upgraded ignition module tomorrow and new front tires next week.
Then there's trailer/shelter, needs a roof, and a swamp-cooler (have the core parts).
Then the playa-bike.
Then the playa-bike-trailer for electrolyte-drink gifting. Using the old strobe, new strobe for next year.
Then the mini-swamp-cooler for the vehicle for arrival and exodus.

No budget for an RV this year. As a one-man camp, I'm still trying to figure out how I'll get enough water to the playa for the electrolyte-drink gifting without having to run in to the Gerlach Community Water Sales every day or two.

Meals? With all I have to do, I'll likely stop on the way to grab some cans of Beefaroni...

The wind-turbine is abandoned for this year, but it looks nice. I guess I could bring it, post it and let it spin around for a get-home landmark.

Doing the work I need to get done before I leave.
Washing the stuff in the van that hasn't been washed in a year.
Inventoring the stuff in the van.
Inventorying costumes, clothes, personal items.
I did buy some SPF 30 Chapstick though.

All the Burning Man boxes are down from storage but I'm procrastinating opening and taking inventory. With only three weeks - I'd better hurry up in case I need to order anything that cannot be bought local.

I am procrastinating on my wedding DJ list for my friends wedding which is 5 days after I get home from the Burn!!! YIKES. I do want it to be perfect. I have only done one wedding and that was in June, and I did really well, it was awesome, so I am doing it again. I just dont want to get home from BMan and be all DERRRRRRRRPIE DOOOOOOOOOOO playa coma and have to scramble to get a hand picked special playlist together!!!

ALl the burny shit will come into place. My projects arent physical. I already did that for High Sierra music fest this year, months worth of ambiance, painting neon leaves.....over it!!!

Oh yeah I need to finish writing a few songs for our camp band. I have a few started, one is called Casual Deemsters and the other one is called Get Your Asshole Off My Barstool.

Playa Coat... I haven't really started, but I have a backup and it shouldn't be nearly as labor intensive as the cutout shirt was.
