Lighting works great. (22) 13w CFL's = 300w per star (plus line drop), let's us use a single large generator, not too shabby. 3 star install for Critical Massive next week. Pretty pictures of completed stars to follow round the 22nd. Hit our Kickstarter if you are so inclined. Thanks

I love the idea. I'd like to make a suggestion, if you want to use it is up to you guys. Orion contains 2 non-white looking stars a red giant called Betelgeuse (pronounced beetle-juice) and a blue giant called Rigel.

Betelgeuse( meaning armpit/shoulder of the giant) is the upper left star. And Rigel is the lower right star. If the lights inside the stars match then I think it be awesome-er.

Again only a suggestion, it's your guys project that I hope to see out on my journeys through the playa.

Just for fun: Orion's nebula in Orion is beautiful and located on his sword (or where his dick would be).

It's a great suggestion Horizons, Thanks.

Initially we intended to color the stars. As it turns out Betelgeuse and Saiph are the only two start that aren't blue (Betelgeuse - red, Saiph - Ultraviolet), so 5 blue stars, one red, one purple. First we tried colored lights, but colored cfl's were very expensive and not very bright. Second we looked into painting the outside or the inside of the stars but it ends up adding significant cost and being a lot of work if we want these to be weather safe for more than just the Burning Man festival. In the end, we didn't have the man power or the funds to pull it off so we decided to simplify and go with white bulbs which are both bright and cheap ($.20 each).

It sounds like you know all about Orion, but for those who don't here's an excellent vid that provides a tour of Orion. Worth a look for anyone who is curious.

Starlight had a pretty big night last night, the stars look amazing. All 3 stars installed at Critical Massive in 4+ hours. Thanks to the Starlight crew (Chad + Simon particular), CM DPW (patient Paul), Bluesdome/Black Rock Mafia, Nancy, Jeremy, Joy, Katia and everyone else who helped out. ♥

Here's an early shot to whet your appetite. More images here. More to follow shortly (once I have some real time to shoot).

Yes. We were Funded via Kickstarter yesterday with six days left in our pledge drive. Thanks to everyone at eplaya who pitched in. Much appreciated.

We're still a little short ($800) of covering all of our material costs but we are whipped, owned and wrapped to have such overwhelming support. That said, if anyone lurking out there is willing to kick in a few bucks we could still use the dough; if not?, it's cool.

Hope to see you on the playa in about a month. Cheers.

Ha ha cool. Thanks again for listening. In the extreme off chance that we run into each other on the playa I will have at least 1 beer and a shot of jack with your name on it.

I sure will!
Although I could very well be the random person lurking around your project, on playa. I love all things celestial.

Oh and I am so thrilled that all the stars have owners now! thrilled and envious!

Yea! So cool

My wife and I built light boxes last year for our camp, and made some this year for our camp.

We use colored fabric and stapled it on the inside of the box so it glows color at night. i will post a picture :-)
