Thanks to this thread I'm making my own clothes for the first time this year. I've really enjoyed seeing people's photos and seeing how easy it can be. You guys are awesome.

Playafifi wrote:tahiti_treat, I just stumbled on poly dyes at an arts supply store. I used Jaquard brand but there are other brands, too. A packet costs 3 bucks, and I mixed the powder dye in water in a small glass jar, and then poured some of it into the pot I was using to dye the clothes. You can play around with how much you need. but one packet can dye a lot of lingerie! It's totally a science experiment, and yeah, some things dye better than others, but that can actually look kind of neat, when, say, the lace stays light and the body of the garment goes dark, or vice versa. :)

Hmm, I know my local yarn store has Jaquard brand for wool. I'll take a trip there and see what they have. Thanks!

Tutu's for Men or women. These are made on belts. Some of the belts had holes originally, others I made holes with a heavy-duty hand punch. The body of the tutu is fleece cut into strips. Ain't they pretty?

The blue one and the purple one are cut in the stretchy direction so the fleece rolls up and looks like dreds. The red dot skirt is cut the non-stretchy direction.

The purple one is made on a metal & elastic belt. Manly...The multi colored one is made from the borders of 10 different blankets. I fell in love with the embroidered edges.

wow ratty, I LOVE those.

during my stay in SF this week, I went to SCRAP twice. filled a grocery sack each time with everything from a handful of buckles to dozens of zippers to a multipound bag of leather scraps, & like 15 rolls of fabric -- for $10. I seriously am lucky they don't have one in san diego. I would end up on Hoarders: Craft Edition.

now to actually finish stuff.

The rest of us here in San Diego don't feel so lucky! Are there any close equivalents here in SoCal?

I just made this lovely all white tutu. It was an over-the-bed mosquito net in a former life. there is just a touch of white ribbon mixed in.

These darling little bustles are made from upholstery samples. Luckily they already had a 'channel' at the top to run the ribbons through. the ribbons with bows keep them gathered up. I used up some old scraps of lace to decorate and long scarves to tie them around my hips. So sexy.

Those are expensive in stripper shops, and never as well done.

Not like I know.

Ratty those bustles are absolutely amazing! I LOVE THEM!!!! I found this adorable pair of "bustle panties" online and they look so easy to make. I have bags upon bags of tulle in every color so my girlfriends and I are going to make a whole bunch and gift them on the playa! If anyone would like a pair just lemme know what size panites you need and I'll keep some aside for you! :D

Bustle panties. What a great idea. I made a bustle skirt but panties are much cuter. You could sew it on your swimsuit bottom. (Heading for the closet now.)

I swear... This fur tutu looks like popcorn. I cut 1" strips of fur the stretchy direction and pulled each piece till it rolled into a tube. Then I pushed it through a woven belt.

Ratty you have been making some amazing things! I love the fur tutu! Thank you very much for sharing them. I have gotten a few ideas while looking through this thread and finally made it to the Goodwill outlet shop (it is exhausting going through all those unsorted bins). I am hoping to get some projects done and post them up in the next week or so. The clock is ticking.
