Roller skates

Postby JEM2387 » Sat Aug 02, 2008 6:29 am

I don't know how easy it will be for me to transport my bike to the playa. Is the ground smooth enough to be able to roller blade/skate?

well, yeah, it is smooth enough.....
but, to soft. You can put 'em on, but, you'll still have to walk........Unless you have big, wide, soft "off road" rollerblades or skates, with wheelbarrow tires.......

Jesus camps with us, and he's brought a pair of off-road inlines in years past. They don't look cheap...but do look like fun.

Hey,

So I was wondering if anyone has some experience using those "off-road" roller-blades for transportation. Jesus... any comment.

I hear that it's hella flat, but is the playa too soft to roll on (obviously I'm a noob.

Ah. Well, we aren't all as dry as Bob.
I have no idea what kind of skates the roller disco uses, or how to get hold of them, but that's where I would start...

Here's Jesus with the skates I mentioned. It may be too dusty this year, even for these.

Awesome, thanks. Maybe I'm gonna have to bail on the skates thing.

Is the dust this year going to be thicker?

word is..that the playa is really soft right now..which means lots o dust for us in August. If you like to skate, bring em anyways. Black Rock Roller Disco has a floor to skate on. And plenty of skates....quads and inlines...if you don't bring em.

Bikes are always ok...just some years are harder than others on steering.

What about those big two wheel skates Caeser Milano (the dog whisperer) uses on his show? They look like they might work.

I don't suspect they'd do very well, especially with the deep soft playa I'm hearing we'll probably have this year.

The Roller Disco uses conventional skates on a plywood surface...
