Burneophyte from Calgary

Burneophyte from Calgary

Postby Phasmid » Fri Apr 13, 2012 9:56 pm

Hello all! Another Calgary adventurer. Been lurking for a bit, finally decided I better join this wonderful hive of amazing people before I make my first venture to the desert.

I first found out about this incredible event many yearas ago and have been waiting until circumstances allowed me to finally make it, and this year is that year!

I'm hoping to meet some vets at Freezer Burn to gather some intel and make some new friends before I make the long trek.

I'm a musician, world traveler and psychedelic thinker and I know that I have found my tribe. I look forward to meeting you all and helping to create some magick!

Hey Phasmid, Welcome to ePlaya!!

I'll probably see ya at FreezerBurn. It is a blast.

The burners I know in Calgary are awesome.

Check out the BM Regional info: http://regionals.burningman.com/ca_alb_cal.html

There is also a facebook page, look up "Alberta Regional Burning Man".

Meeting some local burners will at worst get you some good advice, at best you will meet some good people.

I'm in Calgary May 25-28 to run the Calgary Marathon. A few burners are planning to get together for a beer or three. Would you like to join us?

Hey everyone, thanks for the welcome. Freezer Burn sounds like a great local starting point. I was pretty surprised when I found out that there were Burners in Alberta, how awesome! Looking forward to meeting some great people from my own town. I've been going to Shambhala the last 6 years and met some Burners here and there but never expected to see enough to have their own regional in Alberta. So I'll see you there Stretch!

And Dr.Pyro, I'd love to join you for some beers. Not much of a runner myself, but I'm quite good at drinking beer.

He doesn't actually run...rather a modified mosey...to the beer at the end...:D

Hi Phasmid! "Burneophyte" . . . it's perfect!

I like that a lot better than "birgin".

Hah well I could stumble to some beer myself.

Hey Savannah. I'm not to big on burgin either, so I thought that was a good alternative. :)

The more I dig into this event I'm realising how much work and planning its going to take just for me to get there. Then I look at all the amazing art and theme camps and see how much more planning and effort it takes for them to get there. Seems like many very dedicated people are the ones who make this so special. Really looking forward to meeting such passionate people.

There seems to be differing opinions on first year participation. By that I specifically mean joining a theme camp, or not. Theme camps appear to be an integral part of the experience but I'm not sure I want to get locked into something I really don't know anything about and also having to pay upwards of the price of my ticket. If it was worth it I wouldn't mind but I'm thinking being free to roam with no camp duties other than my own may just be the best option. I've been know to be shy and worry that because I am venturing alone that I may miss some of the group experiences because of that. Always have been a lone traveler and no problems there, but Burning Man is so radically different that I fear not getting the full experience.

They actually aren't. Some people are happier by themselves. Have a burn or two, talk to people in camps about their experience and then, if you get exited by what you learn, join a camp.

Lots of great burners in Calgary, including my wife who I met at the Burn in 2008. Freezer Burn is a great event. Enjoy!
