Crap, that's what I get for being a curious clicker.

nothing was hacked...that page is just a direct link to the final result page and it receives no info from you just by clicking on it from eplaya....other than the fact that you visited it (like any other webpage) no info was sent to burning man

dont worry... if they really start investigating theyll see that link was referred to from eplaya and know that nothing nefarious is happening

Its my first burn and i was just wondering - do you think that there will be any hostility on the playa? how mad are people who usually go at the people who took their spots? i know there has been lots of hype about bm getting mainstreamed by newbs like me. i'm just wondering if it will be uncomfortable. might sell my ticket if it is.

You've got nothing to worry about, once people are out there, all this crap will be a memory. In fact, you'll find that people are nicer than anywhere else you've ever been.

Does anyone know how Step is interacting with the 10,000 tickets that will go to established camps? Have they decided who's getting the 10,000 and are they being pulled off the Step list?

The 10,000 are not in the STEP. Only tickets that are won by people who decide to sell them back to BM for the STEP will be sold there.

I guess I wasn't clear. I meant to say: I'm assuming that the lucky 10,000 people that will be selected to buy camp tickets were also in the original lottery. Since they were in the lottery, I'd also assume they're in Step.

Any ideas whether these lists have been cross checked? Is the list of 10,000 done?

No. The llc is doing some complicated stuff, and I don't think the 10,000 have been awarded to camps (and volunteer depts, and art projects) yet, much less had names associated with them. I suspect that there are people who will win at STEP who will also be crucial camp members and that one or the other will be denied, or else further "gaming" of the system will occur at that point. (I.e., someone else in the camp will get the opportunity to get one or the other ticket.)

Hmmm. Ready, fire, aim!

I guess it's nothing to worry about anyway if we end up with just a handful of tickets in the pot.

@cooked 2242 - consider reading the FAQ, which was updated to include questions regarding both STEP and directed distribution (theme camp/MV allotments).

I did read the FAQ. Did I miss a section that addresses the cross pollination of STEP and Directed Ticket Distribution?

thanks

This Has been a long grind, If any people are lucky enough to get tickets with STEP that are on eplaya should meet somewhere on the playa at a certain time to have a drink..Anybody agree?

I think they were trying to see if someone in an established theme camp would be the type to sign up for the first lottery. If in fact they were that type of person and not awarded a ticket, would they be able to sign up for step as well as hold out for the march of the ten thousand.

If someone is able to purchase tickets through any other means, they will not be eligible to purchase tickets from STEP. That means if they get tickets through Direct Distribution (theme camp/MV program), or a low income application is approved, etc.

i think i get it!

basically the question is: IF I DIDNT GET A CONFIRMATION OF BEING IN THE DISTRIBUTED TICKET PROGRAM FOR MY CAMP CAN I STILL SIGN UP FOR STEP?

i dont know. as trilo mentions you only get 1 ticket

i know that some camps have already begun to distribute tickets from the 'distributed program' to their members

i dont know if all camps have been notified of being in this program....i dont know if all of the camps that wont be in this 'distributed' program have been notified yet.

From what I have read, you should be able to get 2 tickets through STEP (uh, if you tried to get two in the lottery). - The ticket limitation there was changed a wee-bit ago...

if you get 1 ticket in the distributed ticket program you dont get another.. no matter how many you signed up for in the lottery.

1 ticket per person.

i am not speaking to the limits on purchases in STEP.

The directed distribution thing is being processed now, camps who would like to participate (and have read the info coming from placement as well as the notes from the theme camp forum) have until March 8 to submit their questionnaires, and Placement will take several days to make their determinations.

You can register for STEP if your camp has submitted its questionnaire and is hoping for tickets. If your camp does get tickets and you're able to purchase a ticket through that program, your STEP registration will be canceled at that time. If through some miracle you're able to purchase a non-transferable ticket through STEP and then your camp is awarded a ticket allotment, then your camp can cover another member instead of you.

I decided to reply after coming to the (correct or incorrect) conclusion that what they were "getting at" was swirling themselves into a storm of frustration spawned by the idea of "gaming the system". Oddly enough though after beginning my reply with what the question was I completely forgot my original idea of "them being mad".

It's fun to watch certain people slam a question, then see a mod answer that question in the thread, then see that certain person quote from the answer as if it was there all along and why didn't the OP already see it. Don't worry, as soon as this ticket thing is sorted out, you get to have your BBS back.
