Since I pretty much always have a thread drifty story...

When I was a young lad of about 5 or 6 my dad had a can of chew. It's the only time I can recall him ever chewing. I asked him if I could have some, and he laughed and held out the can. (I have to assume he was taking a "natural consequences" route to parenting*.) I took some in my fingers and shoved it in my mouth. Since it was called "Chew" I proceeded to do just that. Then I struggled to swallow it, not really understanding how to operate Skoal.

It didn't stay in long.

Also: Mom got very mad.

* - In this case it was INCREDIBLY effective.

"O Oysters, come and walk with us!"
The Walrus did beseech.
"A pleasant walk, a pleasant talk,
Along the briny beach:
We cannot do with more than four,
To give a hand to each."

The eldest Oyster looked at him,
But never a word he said:
The eldest Oyster winked his eye,
And shook his heavy head--
Meaning to say he did not choose
To leave the oyster-bed.

But four young Oysters hurried up,
All eager for the treat:
Their coats were brushed, their faces washed,
Their shoes were clean and neat--
And this was odd, because, you know,
They hadn't any feet.

So which is better? Raining off and on? Or raining on and off? Us SoCal folks don't know about these rain terms and their nuances of interpretation.

I mean, if rain is off and on, that would lead one to believe the rain is constant and goes off occasionally, but back on in a relatively short time.

Meanwhile, rain on and off could lead one to believe that rain is the exception and comes on for a relatively short period of time before going off again.

Honestly never thought of it, We MossBacks genraly don't think about the rain, it just is.
I did ask around, and we all (6 of us) say off and on and one replied "who the hell says on and off? Californians? so there you have it.
We did have sun all day today. we notice those days. Don't even know how long it's been raining. 2 weeks maybe?

Try googling the terms [ "raining off and on" "(city name)" ] vs. [ "raining on and off" "(city name)" ] for major cities.

"Off" seems to be slightly more prevalent, including for SF, Santa Barbara and San Diego. The exception would be LA -- which just helps identify them as a species, along with that annoying "the" thing they do to freeway numbers.

Da... and Lengua Burritos. Always makes for... satisfying... lunches.

Not fan of cervella, tho - is too bland and mushy. Tastes bland like plain knox gelatin, texture of farina.
