I thought Tin Man was pretty good. I didn't care for the network's subsequent re-imagining projects, but I thought that one was cleverly done.

Tin Man was a good series, I really enjoyed it. But, I definitely agree about the other stuff they've been redoing. For instance, I had an extreme dislike of the new Battlestar Galactica, or, for that matter, the new V series they made that was canceled in 2 seasons. Both of them were just way too dark for my taste. If I want to be depressed while watching TV, I'll watch the news.

Re-working of Alice, Peter Pan and so on. Usually very beautifully done visually.
SyFy, where good shows go to die.

yeah wow.
There are so many old shows, re-done.
I'm more of a purist, I suppose.
I'd rather watch and old Twilight Zone, hokey props and all, and use my imagination, that see it re-made in high tech......same with Star Trek.

and, I've not, and may never, see the new "True Grit", O.T. sorry.

You know, yggy, the new True Grit isn't a bad movie. For me the original's a classic, didn't need to be re-made because they got it right the first time. But they do a fine job telling the story. I like the old Twilight Zone episodes too - it's easier for me to forgive a dodgy prop than a dodgy story.

If you've not already caught any of the episodes of BBC's Sherlock, try and look it up. It's a great re-imagining set in modern day, great cast and wonderful stories. Three 'episodes' (each as long as a movie) in the first series aired in 2010, and a second series just finished airing in the UK and will be broadcast on PBS I think in March. Benedict Cumberbatch plays Holmes, and Martin Freeman (from the original UK version of The Office, he was also Arthur Dent in the Hitchhiker's Guide film and will be Bilbo Baggins in the upcoming Hobbit films) plays Watson, both of them are brilliant. Really awesome stuff, worth chasing down.

Another somewhat sci-fi (though mostly farcical comedy) series to look for is This Is Jinsy. It's a sort of sketch comedy show set on the fictional island-state of Jinsy, where there are more CCTV cameras (two way tv's they call 'tesselators') than there are people. 8 episode series aired in the fall on SkyTV and already greenlit for a second series.

I'll check'em out, thanks Trilo.

I guess , for me, watching the old stuff, with the hokey props and such, allows my imagination, to replace the stuff.
When it's "high tech", I tend to pay closer attention to the backgrounds and such, and lose some of "the story".
I watch this stuff, from the POV of "being there", as opposed to being a voyeur.

of course, it may just be the after effects of all the fun in the 70's and 80's.........

I wish I could find "Carnivale", the HBO series, on Ne#$@^%.
It was a little edgy, very subtle, and loaded with magic and such.

Netflix and HBO are in a pissing contest over the internet biz. HBO's trying to make something of a play for the internet streaming game with their HBO Go thing (they dream of a future where people just pay HBO directly for monthly subscriptions and get the content straight from them), so they want to keep their content off Netflix while they figure out how they might be able to do such a thing.

In an interview about Star Wars George commented that special effects should not be noticeable. If they are then they are not well done and detract from the story.

Both versions of True Grit are essentially the same with minor differences. Both are well done. But the John Wayne version is much more fun. It looks like they wanted to make the Jeff Bridges version a little more gritty and realistic. But in doing so they lost a little of the charm. Of course it is not possible for anyone to re-do John Wayne.

Carnivàle was one of my favorite television series of all time! It's so cheap on DVD now that you may as well buy it, if you like it.

I liked the Game of Thrones books.....is it a movie?

I had also heard "Wheel of Time" was in some sort of production, not sure if it's be the book, or the whole, dang, series.

I'd crawl on my hands and knees to see "The Dark Tower" made into movies.

I could go on........

We're doing the final edits, Ygmir. There was a final set of shots where Conan is gazing in wonder at the Alpenglow and Aurora Borealis. I wanted it to be just right. We'll be editing the sound and music next, then Big Time. :)
