The official BMORG statement on 2012 tickets and theme:

Fertility 2.0 - Black Rock City is a kind of Petri dish. Theme camps cling in fertile clusters to its latticework of streets, artworks tumble out of it, like pollen on the air. These nodes of interaction mutate, grow and reproduce their kind. Burning Man communities have now escaped this capsule world: our culture in a Petri dish has effloresced - it spreads across five continents. This year's art theme contemplates the tendency of any being or living system to create abundant life.

Here is a direct letter received today from Camera Girl @ BM HQ regarding the 2012 ticketing situation/change of text/date on the home page and explanation for the as yet un-posted theme:

"The answers are:

There is no need to freak out.

We are revisiting our ticket sales strategy for 2012 and the "launch date" may be a moot point.

Larry is still working on the theme for 2012. We had a close friend pass right before the event, and launched a new non-profit in early August, so he may have been a bit busy. We have never promised the theme will be out each year at the event, it just has been announced that way for a few years.

Yes, there will be a Burning Man in 2012. Yes, it is likely that most folks will get tickets, though we won't be selling a bajillion."

No, I'm not fucking around. This is straight from the BORG after a semi-long email chain about what's going on and do you mind throwing us a bone about what's up. I therefore invite y'all to talk amongst y'selves..

So what you're saying is you freaked out about the lack of posted theme and ticket on-sale date, and engaged her in a semi-long email chain to try and drag details out of her?

Nah not at all. I just asked her politely to maybe throw us some kind of statement about what's going on so that maybe the truth/word could be spread in place of mass hysteria.

Lots of luck on that. Mass hysteria is what certain burners do best.

So last ticket time was an absolute fiasco, and now it appears that things are going to be done differently in response to our cries of, "next year things need to be done differently".
This is what we asked for and this is what we're getting. What will we do if there is nothing left to whine about?

This is more of a discussion of something that is relevant to most everyone on this forum. There are some changes in the works and most of us are interested in what they are. Yawping is probably not the right word here!

Esp when I find my silly self nodding upon reading his posts.

NO EXPECTATIONS!!! ;)

I love the moot point thing. What does this mean? Who knows. Who cares. It's ALWAYS been their party, they were kind enough to let us be part of it, and that's good enough for me.

I just hope I know before I sink another ungodly fortune into this gig!!! --giggles--

Either they have already sold the tix, or they will use my "You must have 3 tickets to buy this years one" thing, or they will ONLY be doing regionals from now on, or... hell, who knows. Whatever it is, people will bitch and cmplain and whine, and they'll do what they were gonna do anyway., and in the end the man will STILL burn the Saturday before Labor day.

Sometimes I have the feeling that the BMORG is seen as lazy evil which just dig money out of people going to BM.
They actually work! And there is a lot of work which is unseen to many. BM is not only TTITD, ohhh it is so much more
what is done and what is going to be done now, when BM Project was started.
The discussion about the tickets sales started way before this year BM, and it is not that they just now have found out it was not working last time properly so they start to change dates. There are already many people involved in the discussion
and it aint easy to find the solution. Whatever will be picked up will simply have "holes" in some way and people will be barking
about that and we will see many unsatisfied reactions here and they will get many unsatisfied reactions themselves.

I just wonder how is it possible it is so easy for people to bark about those things and write angry emails. I wonder as well, how many people actually make/made the effort to write them "thank you". Well, I heard it was the best year this year...did actually anybody thanked the BMORG that they worked their asses off to prepare the conditions for BM participants? hmmmm

Can you imagine to write down something which will be eloquent and clear enough for more than 270 000 heads group composed from hippies, ravers, sparkle ponies, people with anxiety, crazy people, smart asses, people with kids minds, some in a way normal people...fuck that is nuts...I am not even sure if group here will understand what I want to say...it is funny how people started to freak out they dont know the theme...it is year (luckily less every day) to the event and there is plenty of preparation work to do individually even without knowing a theme...or does anybody decide to go or not to BM because of theme?

(This is not reaction on your email to cameragirl jungelsmack...I dont think a little that you would be rude and bark on her where is our date of ticket sale :D...you just opened it for me so I said what I feel lately and what I am little pissed of)

Jeez that is lot of word from me...sorry, it just had to go out... I am feeling better :D

Ding Ding Ding - I think we have a winner. This makes lots of sense, particularly in light of the original reason for the staggered pricing.
