I feel like that now too M!! Shambala wrote me and told me some things, and as of last night, I'm calm as can be. My car is two-thirds packed and I must say I did a nifty job. I'm going to be doing massive food freezing tomorrow plus getting my food supply organized!

All of my worrying was for nothing...I can't believe I even said that! I was a wreck until yesterday!!

we're leaving Friday night from Illinois.

the radiator in the bus/van is leaking and the engine therefore is overheating.

the right tail light is out, but works when we break and use the turn signal.
Have no damn clue why it would be doing that.

My boyfriend is blowing money on STUPID SHIT.
We need $1300 for gas for the trip and directly after getting back rent is due. Right now we have $600 in the bank. Not even half what we need. A week ago we had $900. Pay Day is tomorrow, and that isn't even going to cover all our remaining costs.

I was doing quite well with my calm-the-fuck-down cookie baking routine today when that freakin EARTHQUAKE hit, but, keep-calm-and-carry-on, I put all the stuff back on the shelves, walls, etc and started another batch of cookies.

Downloaded Social Distortion's Greatest Hits and put it on the ipod. Are there any other albums I want to buy for the road trip?

That's the question going through my head since I woke up an hour ago. I'll look on Amazon until I fall back to sleep.

..so last night after all this anxiety talk all day, I literally had a vivid as hell dream all night about it.

We made it to gate early but it was still closed of course, so we ran back to this town to grab some smokes and whatever. I pull out my list and realize that I don't have nearly anything I need from it! I'm running around town trying to find stores, but my GPS wasn't working on the phone and everything was closed. I find one mini mart type place and the guy is taking forevvvvvvvvvvver just to get me a damn pack of cloves. It's getting dark outside at this point. I look down and I have no shoes! Dammit! Where are my shoes?! Where is my stuff? Then I realize that my ride has gone. There are other burners in the store, and someone gets a call that WAIT! The gate opened early! Everyone starts running like crazy but I have no ride! I run outside shoeless, and it's dark and everyone is gone. I'm standing there with no ride, no shoes, no gear.. watching this giant cloud of dust in the distance of everyone rushing to gate. I'm panicking. Out of nowhere, up walks BB Sue with a walky talky on her hip. She looked just like her avatar.. surprise surprise! She radios in for backup.. that we've got a man down out here..

..and that's where I fade out to the sound of my girlfriend's alarm going off at 6am.

WHEW.

How much longer?

If you mean that the light is out when the headlights are on, but it works when you brake or use your turn signal.. then it's most likely just the bulb. Taillight bulbs have two fillaments in them. One bright for stop and turn, and one dim for headlight use. Have you checked the bulb?

My leave day for the drive to BM was two days ago.
Finally got the engine running last night, and with fresh gas, discovered the top of the engine is fine (starts instantly on turning ignition), but there's a huge knock in the lower block. Blown crank/bearings or oil starvation from not running for too long. Find out today...
Otherwise, find alternate transportation to tow utility trailer. Go, no-go date is Saturday.

Have you tried radiator sealant? the kind you pour in? I've never known it to stop a leak completely, but it may help some.

I hate to say this, but you are most likely doomed. I would be searching now for alternate transpo. Check with rental car places?

Hope this helps. we left from NY. All was well til Ohio. Blujay got up in the morning after walking barefoot around a pond. My foot hurts she said. Next 2 days in Sturgis, she cannot step on it. Had to go to ER ,yep, surgery. OK. Then getting gas, saw a huge bulge on front of truck. Damn, need to change tire. Ok, well, man says also need front wheel alignment as other front tire in bad shape. Seems needed ball joints, with 30000 on truck? Sure, why not. Then in Yellowstone, lost brakes, yep master cylinder and new line.4 more days layover. All this after having garage check out the truck for a long trip. "she looks good and ready to go" says the mechanic?

Today we are leaving Fernley headed for Playa. Not to worry as we WILL get to the man!! Just take it as it comes knowing no matter how hard you plan, "shit happens".

MyLarry says with a two filament bulb, there are two wires going into the socket. One wire controls brake/turn and the other the marker filament. One of your wires is broken.

self medication aww yeah!
I think the sweet couple that owns the corner store near my house think I have a serious problem. Pick up a snack and 'oh look at that...beer! Wouldn't want to leave the store with out a 6 pack'. seriuosly, every time i go in there for TP, dog food, tampons (aka: slut plugs) i look in the beer isle and think to myself 'but would would the cashier think of me if i bought beer again today', then say who fucking cares I'm going to Burning Man in (insert countdown here). hell, sometimes when taking my dog for a walk ....it somehow is right past that store and i think 'better get the dog a treat' and then whoops, beer isle again.
Since my long painful search for tickets finally paid off sand tickets were in hand....it's like it's been a two week pre-party. why not enjoy some cheap swill to calm you down while creating hideous playa wear I figure. course, i got no job. woot woot!

I give my corner mart alot of the same type of business. They appreciate me SO much, this time every year they freeze my water bottles in their walk in freezer & throw in a couple coolers worth of ice for my trip to Black Rock. I LOVE my corner mart!

I know the anxiety feeling!

I'm going nuts thinking I'll forget something critical. Coming from Europe, we're having to buy 80% of our stuff in Reno: that isn't helping either, I just hope they stock up for the BM mad troup marching through there!
Then there's the Home Depot guys playing around (I asked them to put the mats for our shade structure aside) for days now going like: "maybe, possibly we have it all... oh wait, no we don't. Oh never mind, yes we do!"
Just now I discovered we'll have to sleep in london (frigging AM PM mess, use 24h format time on tickets please!) before heading to the US.

I know, I know: relax, take it easy. But, in all fairness, it's a fun kind of anxiety. I'm looking forward to noticing I underestimated the playa dust on monday!

These forums have been absolute gold in preparing so I wish to thank you all again. I hope I'll have to luck to meet some of you and offer you a drink for all the awesomeness!
See you all there! :D

I hate to say this, but you are most likely doomed. I would be searching now for alternate transpo. Check with rental car places?

Car rental from Eastern Canada for two to three weeks with trailer hitch. No go for cars with hitch. Passenger vans are already all books for people's holidays. Cargo type vans are booked for moving and students to university/college. Not to mention cost. Had a neighbour offer his Blazer with hitch if I rent him a car for the duration (may have to do that).

Surprise success on the engine today!!!
Turns out it was oil starvation due to sitting a few years; takes a while for the oil to get pumped through again. On advice, did "start/run-for-45-seconds/stop, heat-soak/oil-seep for ten minutes" cycles until the noise dropped significantly (took three cycles). Then "low-rpm run-up to operating temperature and leave to cool for an hour" cycles. Took two of those to get the engine to normal noises, except for a tappit on one of the six lifters, but that's fairly normal for this type of engine (Jeep I6-258). Will change the oil & filter tomorrow (too chicken at this point to flush).
Bad news is I lost a day.

Also for tomorrow: weld the front clip back on (weld, seam seal, rust coat), new master brake, caliper lines & bleed all, re-install rad, alternator, belts & a/c (already off for welding), align caster, camber & toe-in (level & tape measure - gotta love the early technology), build and install a battery tray, bolt on fenders, hood, front bumper and install the light assemblies. Then it's drivable and I get to see if the transmission works...
No pressure.
Friday is fix the trailer, get plates, finish my bike build and pack.
Saturday leave.
Parts for DIY bucket swamp cooler have been drop shipped for pickup along the way.
No leisurely tourist drive, and I'll miss Monday and Tuesday, but I'll be there. If it works out... :)

If I make it, I'll need someone to pull the horse shoe(s) out.
