question about anchoring kodiak canvast tent

Postby playaSilk » Fri Aug 12, 2011 2:59 pm

Hi, I just got a kodiak canvas tent after royally fcking up my cheapo tent last year. I had a question about anchoring it to the playa. Where do I tie the guy lines to the tent? Or do I just use rebar instead of the included tent stakes while setting up the tent? Or...? Thanks in advance for helping me prevent my tent from flying away while I am out partying ;)

PS: I have the 10x14 deluxe model if that makes a diff. I don't intend to use the awning thing that it comes with.

We have a Springbar, which I think is identical to the Kodiak, and there are no guylines. Did you get guylines with the Kodiak? See a photo of our Springbar here:

I think the question is regarding the awning on the kodiak tent. I've not been so I can't provide any feedback, but having set it up, I am not sure it will be good in the elements. I would prolly leave it rolled up.

@phil - Wonderful. I didn't think there would be any guylines but I wasn't sure. Seemed a little too good to be true. No ropes running around everywhere tripping me up!? :)
@Undecided - I'm not setting up the awning. Agree about leaving it rolled up.

Thanks for the responses guys :)

My question is will the stakes hold? They are steel and longer than usual, but still only a foot long. Will these work?

Been setting up a Kodiak 10x10 for 4 years and a 10x14 for 3 years. Always used the supplied stakes and we've never had an issue in the wind with them.

I camp with Cpt Smashy (with a Springbar). We have never had problems.

I use military stakes. Only use maybe 8. (Except mine are green)

The canopy is fine if it is staked down tight. If it can flap and start lifting the pole off the ground it is a problem.

The Kodiak stakes are sufficient. You can tie down your awning over the entrance to give another layer of dust mitigation. No guy lines necessary. The tent is considered a FOUR SEASON TENT afterall.

Very pleased with how our Kodiak tent held up. We used a combo. $ rebar out the corners and stakes on the rest. It worked just fine.
