A cup is to BM as a towel is to intergalactic travel

Bringing your own cup to BM is a must, so I was wondering what everyone's preferences are and what you've found to work best. Lid or no lid? How big? Handle? Clip?

Last year I brought one of these fellers

I'm looking to "upgrade" as it were.
Thanks!

I have a 500ml plastic nalgene bottle similar to this metal one:

Image

I LOVE it - it has two screw top openings, one big enough for ice, one small enough to drink out of without dribbling. It's not so big that bartenders roll their eyes when you hand it to them, but big enough to last a couple hours filled with a stiff drink. And I don't spill my drink on the playa. Cuz apparently I drink like a 3 year old and need a sippy cup

Mmmm now all we need is another shoe/footwear thread to add to the yet another backpack thread from yesterday and we can complete the trifecta!

All of which wouldn't be necessary if the search function wasn't shit.

Haha thanks! I spent the last couple of days browsing and "searching" and all I could find, in addition to many playafied recipes, was "bring your own cup". Needless to say that leaves quite a bit to the imagination (as IM displayed so wonderfully). Just figured I'd see what everyone liked best.

I brought a metal cup like the first post that I clipped to me for those lovely free drinks. I also had a few water bottles that I would refill at camp. Free margaritas in that little metal cup never tasted so good.

I like something with a lid. I was riding my bike once, stopped for a moment, someone passed by and offered me hot hot coffee. Real good coffee, thanks. I had a regular plastic mug, open top. So I am straddling my bike with a hot cup of coffee... can't really ride on without drinking it. A lid... and a cup holder (I didn't remember that part) would have been nice.

Handles are good for clipping on somewhere.
Lids are nice--dosing occurs.
Not ceramic or glass.

I've been bringing a Home Despot travel mug every year since 1999. It was the best one I had at the time, and now I don't even care about the logo.

Too true about the margaritas. Last year I filled up a metal cantene with a pitcher of margaritas that I made in the morning. I figured I'd have enough to enjoy and to share. I didn't plan on leaving the cantene sitting in the sun all day at a friend's camp. Came back that evening to retrieve it. Have you ever had a hot margarita? Pretty good, actually.

My preferred cup is a double-walled insulated metal cup with a handle. I like a cup with a handle so I can clip it to my belt with a carabiner. Tends to get a bit dusty by the end of the day, but oh well...

Don't like. I have that, but a measuring cup, and it can be a little ornery and a pain to clean thoroughly.

For a lidded travel cup I get a kids thing from the Dollar Store. It's got a straw attached that loops at the top and can be beanered onto my belt.

For the past couple of years I've relied on Luddo's, now The Dusty Swan, for my favoritest ever mug.

I keep a coffee mug at camp, two Platypus...es? on my hips and a water bottle in my tent.

Insulated cup for morning coffee, enamel cup for general use.

Seems like for a lot of people, bunringman is their first or primary camping experience, which is a bit annoying. I'm expecting threads on how many changes of underwear to bring, how many cubbies to build for the camp cloak room, Gucci vs. Dior sunglasses, bla bla bla.

Bingo. I haven't camped since I was a teen. After suffering in a fetid swamp doing "living history" at a Civil War prison camp  I swore I would never camp again. I have remained determinedly ignorant of the entire subject.

But I am told there are no snakes, chiggers, mosquitoes, spiders, or leeches on the playa.

I have a Dusty Swan mug.

Don't know why that should annoy you. I never camped before the army and never camped again after I got out until Burning Man. I still hate camping.

I'm going with a insulated Stainless steel mug mostly to keep cold drinks cold and hot drinks hot - I was also intrigued by The Dusty Swan mug and loved it so much I just ordered 2 of those (it will be an extra surprise for my sweetie)

Or it could have been the image from C.f.M.s blog that really got me ;)
