We don't need all the old threads. Some have useful practical information and some are places where *community* was built, but many are two or three posts of no import. Admittedly, I don't think this will be easy, but there ought to be some threads age and brevity that can go without controversy.

Deleting them seems kind of hard to implement/harsh but it would be nice to have some sort of way to filter those out if you want to.

Do the mods have anyway to sort by when something was last looked at? Cause, if it's just been using server space for the sake of history....

Yes - stay tuned. The "switchover" will be the implementation of a new Eplaya. with much the same look and feel. M and I will have a ton of information for the transition this next week. Basicallya if you cant tell Eplaya is in need of an overhaul.

I cant write code to save my life, but i know the server and version of code were running is old school. In order to migrate to better gear it needs to be rewritten which is done. It will return results and load quicker as well.

Nope - in that respect all we can see is the last post date - same as you, which may also be an indicator of a stagnant thread.

I do cull Share Resources, if that's any comfort. And I do merge topics now and then.

We can do it page by page, and I think Regionals and Events wold be a good start.

We get the newbs who won't search, or can't find what they want quickly, folks who start new topics because they don't know how to bump, people who absolutely must reply to every post, and then there's Open Discussion ....

Yeah.

The new upgrades will be nice, the team is working on making it as painless as possible.

What exactly has to be coded???? Most of these open source forums are pretty much ready to go out of the box. And if they are using the same board they are using now, there probably is a relatively simple upgrade path. (exception being there have been too many versions released since last upgrade.)

In which case it seems to me the only thing the would need to write would be an import script that would map the old DB fields with those in the new application.

Just wondering...

This board is a Frankenstein horror, which is why it got no upgrades. There were none to be had unless someone wrote them.
The new out of the box applications are ... different? So making the new eplaya as much like this one as possible, moving to a new server, and so on... they explained it patiently to us, but the mods are the user interface, not the IT team. Apparently migrating the existing board over is quite the chore.
Everyone should update their email address, make sure they know their password, and be able to restore their avatar.
There should be an official announcement of the move over time line soon.
These are not my fuckos.

He is right Fishy, by post count per year when you do the math he has a pretty good margin on you.

Well if we want to open up the post count pissing contest I'll find my spreadsheet with all of my sock accounts and just trump everyone and call it a day.

I'd like to see post count go away and have a rating system where you are measured on the quality of your content and contributions. I haven't really skimmed through the proposed change details so that may be what we're getting who knows.

I do feel sorry for those having to go back and pick threads apart...some just flat out sucked....a certain poster named after a widespread form of entertainment media piracy put out a lot of crap....I hope they put the brakes on supersized humongous sig line graphics and crap like that. And that it gets optimized for use on portable devices. And that it has some color to the screens...

But most importantly I hope after the change the Powers that Be will embrace the power this place has and use it...rather than continue to treat it like the red headed bastard step child that they fucking hate but tolerate just to appease a few people they like. And by the way I've asked for years to make a simple change to my email account and never could get anyone to do it.

No way... it's under each screen name. Gives that name cred. (Yeah, I know, you do an annual name change... you can track your annual postings, like the sock, er, stock market..)

I haven't looked in a while... but what about mayavin?

Kinetic V wrote:...And by the way I've asked for years to make a simple change to my email account and never could get anyone to do it.

Hell, I asked about a year in, maybe less, to change my screen name, so it would gel with my email... it was when te PTB at the bridge really fracked me over...

The change IS a long time in coming... it may get rocky at times (we've had issues doing major mods, as I well remember)... but in the end it WILL be a much more reliable, less fiasco prone system that (knock on playa clay) will not go down unexpectedly and in chunks, go into an unexpected DNS fail mode, or do other wonky and weird crap this one is infamous for doing...

My biggest worrys are -

(1) something will glitch in the go-live, and will not flow along like it should, and that the "Trans-system white out" which will happen during the Great Migration will last longer than anticipates, and/or

(2) The system wasn't tested and whacked - hard - prior to the go-live to make sure it's not only not buggy but remains so for at least a month, and it crashes the system harder than InTickets on Opening Sales Day. (Or Tribe in SOP mode)...

Then again, I'm a worrywort about that kinda thing...

No..I don't do an annual name change. It's more like I forgot the password to the account.

One account is plenty though...I seem to spend more time changing diapers and filling bottles than logging in anymore...and I wouldn't have it any other way.
