PLAYA FASHION - What works? What doesn't?

Postby Donna Matrix » Tue Apr 19, 2011 9:06 pm

I am designing and sewing up a storm for this year's burn.

What works out on the playa and what doesn't.

I am mainly making woman's costumes but men can chime in on what works for them. Of course men can discuss what works for them with woman's clothing. And women can comment on what works for them regarding man's clothing.

I'm somewhat of a minimalist. That's me on the right. The way skirts give flowing freedom and unbound dangly bits makes me wonder why it is not more common. I've been known to wear skirts on a daily basis in defaultia.

CfM is making me something special. Basically, I asked for something Aboriginal with her total freedom of expression.

A couple of shemagh's and I'm set most of the time.

I know I'm being anal, but could you please reduce the size of your signature FIRE to something under 100px tall, or at the very least remove that drop-shadow-on-white so it doesn't look tacky? I get it confused with pictures inside posts.

I hate that!
And when you get to the playa, make sure to tell everyone blasting their music to turn it down, too.
Those people are so loud and annoying.

For me most of the people who try to look "sexy" come off just looking samey & boring. The inevitable shopping trip to Playa-R-Us to buy a fake-fur bikini, a cowboy hat, a utilikilt, some fake-fur boot covers & maybe a leather thong of some sort. Oh, don't forget the fairy wings, and shirtless men in sarongs. Sure haven't seen that before every year on thousands of people.

The person who captured me this year was fully clothed in the most boring khaki you could imagine. An utter lack of "fashion sense", but he was completely comfortable with who he is.

Sexy comes from the person, not the clothes.

This. Sexy is originality/being yourself/imagination - what turns me on is immaterial, but someone in the uniform (as described by Eric) is not going to get a second glance from me.

LOL@FIGJAM

The TWO shemaghs I wear are around the waist. One of them can be used over the head and face WHEN a dust storm kicks up sufficiently. I also use a shemagh for a belt for my coat since it lost all its buttons. They can be used as a towel to sit my bare ass on furniture not my own and to actually wet for some cooling action around the head and neck. They are an effective head cover, face mask and shade for the over-heated shoulders.

T-shirt, check
Jeans, check
Shitkickers, check
Formal black button up shirt, optional, but check.

Getting asked every year if I'm new or if that's what I wear in default, not priceless. - Making the person who asked feel like an douche-nugget, however is.
