My parents met while stationed in Hayward during WWII. He an ambulance driver and she a nurse, both in the Navy. Both my older brothers were Navy during Viet Nam. I drew a "three" during the last year of the draft in 1974 but was never selected. Everybody was coming home by then and it was pretty much an exercise to fulfill requirements.

I appreciate their service and admire everyone willing to serve in the military. Thanks to all who serve!

Wounded Warriors is another charitable organization I recommend. They not only help the wounded, but also their families.

Very touching picture there Emily

I read that Jim Nabors, of Andy Griffith and Gomer Pyle USMC fame, does'nt like watching the introduction to Gomer Pyle USMC because alot of the fellows marching with him and Frank Sutton were legitamate marines and some did'nt come back from Vietnam

A lot of military pictures are blocked from being copied by location.

I right clicked on these pictures and a popup appeared saying I didn't have access.
Instead of clicking okay, I clicked the X and the window appeared to copy location.
Often you have to edit the jpg info when it appears broken, but that didn't work with the military stuff.
I got the 777 off a russian site.

Thanks to all the Vets, epecially mine:

My mom & dad- a nice Jewish boy from New York & a nice Christian girl from Pennsylvania who met in the Air Force in the 50's & both almost got disowned when they married (it just wasn't done outside your faith!). Dad served in Korea. Been married 54 years now.

My wife Heather, Army. She just got back from Iraq a few months ago.

Most of my uncles as well, and a couple cousins.

We have Remembrance Day in Canada today and I attended a service, as I do every year. Laid a wreath for the fiance I had when I was 18 who died in a military training accident.

And I said a prayer of thanks for Caleb and other war time correspondents I've known who gave their all to tell the stories of the troops.

I like this picture of him.

This is my adoptive dad Col. James Henry Nix who passed away Sept. 12 of this year. Although I didn't have him as my dad for very long, he showed me what it was truly like to have a loving father and what it was like to be a loved daughter. This was a strong man in stature even with Myasthenia Gravis and Parkinson's disease. He was a man who dearly loved his large family. He lovingly accepted me into the arms of that family and I will forever be grateful. He was a quiet man of few words. He never talked about his time in the Korean or Viet Nam war because he chose to keep the tragedies to himself so the family wouldn't worry. He was highly decorated but a humble man.

He was also a rascal! He had a great sense of humor especially when he'd accidently knock me over with his motorized wheel chair while he was hitting warp speed throughout the house! He loved to garden and watch the wildlife come into the back yard. That included deer, squirrels, birds racoons, and the hawks that would land in the pine trees.

His wife Dottie *mom*, his beautiful bride of 49 years passed away last year after Thanksgiving. And dad missed her everyday of his life.

Dad loved his country and instilled this love in his family. I will miss this man...my dad, every day of my life.

Thank you dad for loving me. And thank you to all the veterans and active military, which includes my oldest son Austin. for serving our country!

:idea:If you have a location to the pic online (easiest place to upload is to your facebook then just copy the link from the picture), copy the link here. Highlight the link and hit the URL button above the post you are writing. It will put around your link. When it posts, it will show the picture.
