What art projects are you dying to see this year

What art projects are you dying to see this year

Postby portaplaya » Fri Aug 20, 2010 1:56 pm

There is too much art to sort through. I'm curious what projects have built some buzz around them among people that are not directly involved.

Ideally, I'd like to make a list of ten "must-see" art pieces (obviously not the Man and Temple, which are assumed). Especially ones that are photogenic, since that is my artform. Would any participants of this forum like to nominate projects that they are not directly involved in?

Thanks.

That would be the Dark Party on Thursday night by the trash fence.

It is epic every year!

I don't know about buzz but....considering visual interest? off the top of my head~

Bliss Dance seems like a no brainer to me as does the Frigate.
A Constellation of One could be very photogenic if it looks like the rendering,
Syzyrgryd and the Minaret as well.
Megatropolis should offer a number of good perspectives.
Spire of Fire could be cool.
It appears that The Kinetic Cab Co. has a lot of variety to offer.

That said I imagine everyone's list will be a little different. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder right?

Enjoy

Trying to figure out what's worth seeing from websites & the art guide is next to worthless. Things that sound great can be disappointing, and things that don't even register from their description can end up blowing everyone away (Belgian Waffle anyone?)

I would print the map from the Artery pdf (which was posted on eplaya somewhere a couple of weeks ago) and take it with you on your first day. Hop on your bike, and tour the playa, marking places you think will be good to hit during the week.

Things I think seem cool from pre-build images and descriptions (like the Giant Piano, the Minaret, Ein Hammer, the Helix Spire etc) might be great, they may disappoint, but there's no way to know for sure until you see them.

I mean, two trucks on top of each other sounds like it might be cool, but until you see it how can you tell?

The ones I helped fund...but everything else also. Seeing the art of the playa is a high priority for me.

I might just camp out at Syzagrid. There's some amazing energy and sweat going into Megatropolis.

Yes, that's why I'm trying the word-of-mouth route, at least until I leave for the playa.

As for the Artery, I'll be on site before they open to non-artists. And I'll be working too much of the event to just spend days wandering the playa with a map.

Ah well, the working was my choice. ;-)
