Artists seeking stages

Postby accordionMan » Mon Jun 28, 2010 5:02 pm

Hi!

Rob the accordionMan here and I love to rock my accordion on the PLAYA!!!!

I've played at BM and center camp for the last 10 years... I didn't play my first year, but will be playing again this year.

I play a wide range of music and some original songs... The only music I don't play is polkas and Lady of Spain... sorry, it's a matter of principal.

Depending on the setting and mood I can do high energy rock by the Who, the Doors, crazy instrumentals like Peter Gunn, Apache, Walk Don't Run by the Ventures... I'm in the playa book of records for the fastest version of The Devil Goes Down to Georgia.

I love to play Doo Woop, classic rock.... Devil with The Blue Dress, Bad to The Bone.... or I can play some blues, show tunes... you name it. Chances are if I can hum it, I can play it.

I was recently in touch with a fellow who asked me to play at his venue on the playa this year and "what my set was".... this is what I replied:

I'm easy. I don't think there's a set, set.

It all depends on the mood and what's happening when I'm playing.

Last year i was hanging out at the artery for about an hour or so, in the shade, playing lots of different types of music for folks hanging out and passing through. It was laid back and easy.

When I'm "performing" and the energy is higher, I like to do 3 or 4 songs top... about 15 minutes. Perhaps hang out for a while and maybe do another few songs.

Just let me know when and where and I'll be there!

Here's a link of me playing at Horney Camp, the video is rotated for about 30 seconds then it straightens out... have fun and enjoy!

ambient improvisational electro-acoustic

Postby soundcyst » Thu Jul 01, 2010 10:26 pm

hi all,

i perform ambient music that involves improvisation and live sampling/manipulation of instruments as The Sweaty Caps. most of the time, it's just me and a guitar, but sometimes it is a group with other things.

ideally, we could put something together around sunrise on tuesday or wednesday at a quieter part of the playa (or at least less bass-thumpy), as i think the music tends to be chaotic to avoid repetition, but quiet enough to be calming.

if anyone is interested in collaborating in this context, i'm way down, but would need to know in advance so that i can set up my software for it, and bring an extra mic or two.

thanks!

The bass lines roll... it is melodic, raw, grimey, and pretty flawless... most of all... it is EPIC....

After spinning this set... I was asked to join the Dubscouts out of Santa Cruz, CA.

Here is the mix.... I am looking for bookings.. Looking to devastate dancefloors with epic mixes and dirty basslines!! Will Def get the Crowd ROCKIN!!! http://soundcloud.com/thebrund/womping- ... th-of-july

Frightfully English dubble-act questing gigs

ATTN: art cars, cafes, bars, stages, bicycles, sheds, tents

Perhaps Contraption is now graciously and grandly accepting invitations to play their songs for your next public/private function. We are Susie Showers and Squire Squier, brandishing the following: guitar, flute, ukulele, megaphone, kazoo, glockenspiel.

The following UNplugged Entertainment is to be expected: knees-up, klesmer, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, sharp-footed anti-folk

IT'S THIS http://www.myspace.com/perhapscontraption PLUS THIS http://www.myspace.com/susieis

Please be aware that we command an untamed cavalry of lunging stallions, charging at the strongholds of normalcy. with voices raised in roaring opposition to the tepid dirge of mainstream music.

Performer looking to play

Postby steph22sc » Tue Jul 13, 2010 1:35 pm

Hi - it's going to be my first burning man this year! I'm a performer - actress, aerial artist, stiltwalker, singer, dancer. I'm coming over from London but not with a show of any kind. Just putting myself out there if anyone has any performances that need extra bodies. If you have something more improv-based that wouldn't require me rehearsing pre-BM, then please get in touch! Or if you've simply got an open space for playing on trapezes or dancing around on stilts with your performer family, please send me your camp name/location & I'll be sure to say hi!

Thanks lots. See you on the playa :D Can't wait!

Re: Burner Band Gravybrain to return 2010

Postby RICKSAX1 » Wed Jul 14, 2010 3:40 am

<<<<<Chico California Acid Jazz band Gravybrain is planning on returning to the playa for the 3rd year in a row. (Booby Bar, we would love to play in Terminal City again!)>>>>>

Ahoy Gravybrain.....I saw you last year at the Booby Bar.....you guys are great! My Campmates from Camp Gallavant and I stayed for your whole set.....danced our butts off! On that note, Pinemom & Grin have invited me to play at the Booby Bar also this year! I'm a pro saxman with extensive credits and a veteran burner, but, over all the years of jamming with lots of bands on the playa, I've never been able to get my own band out to BRC. So, since I understand that you'll be appearing at the Booby Bar on Thursday for ABC night, I'd like to respectfully ask if you would consider letting me jam with you! You can check out my credits at my website: www.RickMetz.com .....let me know what you think at your convenience.....thanks!

C U in BRC 2010!

Hello, this will be my 3rd burn,
I am a Video artist based in San Francisco originally from Tucson, Az. I am looking for any sound camp (large or small), that would like to host my video projectionism and psychedelic fractal photons to their stage. I've about 2 years experience working in video/lighting/staging, I'm a fairly prepared individual. I know most projector owners do not wish to bring their beamers to our environment (unless playa-proofed). I however, feel I must donate mine's expendability and contribute to enhancing a multiple musical experience through light and moving images to represent bringing the consciousness higher. Would also be my first year bringing a full projection setup for performance. with this Video setup added to your stage would become an open collaborative outlet for any other VJ's and video operators to plug in their setup/laptop/videosignal/etc. and mix their content for an hour set or so.

the projector is a 4000 lumen WXGA (widescreenHD aspect ratio 16:9), maximum screen size of 500 in. i have my own spandex/framing materials and all the necessary forms of grappling and re-barring it down from windstorms

Any crews Needing/wanting this wonderful light addition to your sound stage, and you really feel this kind of participatory live art will benefit . please send me a message, I want to do this for you.

Deep Tech on the Playa

Postby kalimoxto » Thu Jul 29, 2010 10:29 am

I've been DJing for about 12 years and play a mixture of deep house and techno. Anything tech with melody and a groove is what I am all about. I've also created my own professional iPad app for DJing that takes the place of a cdj/technics. Perfect for DJing out on the playa as it can be hooked into a mixer in about 2 seconds, has an entire library on the device and has no moving parts or fans to suck in dust. Plus it looks cool as all hell:
http://traxpad.physipop.com/

I'll also have my Serato setup for camps that want to keep turntables going. Please contact me if you need a DJ that will show up on time, keep people moving with a smile on their faces and give you absolutely zero drama.

My last 2 mixes probably best sum up my general style and ability:

Hi Everyone!

This is my first year going to Burning Man and I was hoping to start out in style! I'm based out of Vancouver, and DJ a number of genres:

- Psytrance/Full-on/Darkpsy/Goa Trance: I spin at Organix, the longest running weekly club night in North America dedicated to psytrance
- Dirty, dark progressive psy
- Ambient/psydub/downtempo spiritual chill music, which I also spin at club nights & various parties

I also put on my own parties & help out with the Vancouver Burning Man community, most recently setup & managed a stage at Burn in the Forest 2010.

Here's a link to my most recent demo:

Anyway, a recent techno set from my radio show, An Epiphany Of Sound, can be heard here:
