Pre-Burn cleanses?

Postby babysnakes » Mon Aug 02, 2010 1:37 pm

I'm thinking it would be a good idea to go alcohol free and do some serious high hydration, low-crap type diet before the burn to get my body in better shape to handle the playa stress I put upon it. Anyone have a regimen they do that they'd like to recommend?

I'm assuming you're from SF, spend a couple of days up at Tahoe/Desolation/etc. beforehand, that will get you more than used to the altitude.

High Colonics hydrate very well. See tour hydrologist ASAP.

Quick and easy.

Oh please! Just go and drink enough of water and electrolyte drinks so that you don't dehydrate.

I suspect a bad case of hippyitus, but we've set out Dr. Iso's Bat Signal for further judgment.

I've heard about the "cleanse/get high" method of "NO2 high colonic" therapy.......
it's not clear if they use a tube or the whole cylinder.......

Usually I do the cleanse AFTER the burn.... Its really more of a detox process....

Okay, I guess cleanse is the wrong word... Detox is more accurate. I'm basically thinking a few weeks of "No bad stuff into the body."

I don't think that's overthinking it. I got really sick at the very end my first year and did okay last year but was thinking it would be a good idea to be going into the burn this year in a good state so my body can better handle the abuse it's put through for a week.

But yes, several N20 Colonics ta'boot

please educate us on what you are talking about. what kind of abuse do you put yourself through to warrant sticking something up your butt several times as a preventative measure?

My question to you in your thinking is WHY? From the way it seems you want to party, you may need to do it again anyway. Prehydrate most definitely, plan to take better care of yourself during the abuse (so to speak) which means to keep hydrated AND eat well during. Cleansing and detox suggests a means to going into a prolonged phase of better living not a start and stop routine.

Its not entirely an absurd question.

I would figure that outside of a lifestyle change, it can be prudent to prepare and deal with the realities of the Playa.

Me, I'm a six-pack a day kind of guy. That makes me pretty much an alcoholic.

This month, I make it a point to run dry weekends. Its generally good for me and I get ready for the booze free weekend drive to the Playa.

On the weekends I take vitamin A and B complex, milk thistle and folic acid to help clear out the liver.

I add lots of Omega 3 & 6 fatty acids via fish, walnuts, flax seed etc.

When I hit the Playa, I continue with foods that promote celular hydration. Usually its nasty foods like smoked oysters, kipper snack, sardines, herring etc. Don't know why but they taste great on Playa. Wouldn't eat that in the real world.

I'd say listen to your cravings. The desire to grab a jar of pickles and just drink the brine is telling you something. If you suddenly salivate when someone mentions smoked salmon, make sure you find some.

Nitevenus" Yeah, you're right, that's a good point. It is probably silly but I have silly ideas sometimes!

Token, what you're talking about is the line I'm thinking.

No up-the-butt infusions.

All of that cleansing, or colonic, high or otherwise, has no medical or physical benefit. In fact, they can actually lead to dehydration and problems with the colon by removing bacteria and mucosa that actually should be there for your digestion to work properly.

The main warning your doctor will give you when you are doing the "cleansing" procedure prior to a colonoscopy is to be careful of dehydration and other effects of leaching all the water and nutrients out of your body.

Oh and not to mention, if you don't take care of your body all the time, it is additionally foolish to thing that any one day or one week regimen will put you in shape to abuse it further, on the playa or anywhere else.

I'm voting with Fishy (and common sense) on this one.

I just keep on doing what I'm doing, if I need to make changes for Burning Man, I'd need to make them for my real life too. I make my innards happy with fiber powder, at home and on the playa. But then, I'm missing a chunk of gut.

Do what you need to do. Sounds like overthinking to me, but I'm not you. Are we lucky or what?

If you have a coffee or cola habit, tapering off any excessive caffeine consumption might be the most practical thing you could do, so you won't crave it as much out there/risk dehydration with off-playa consumption levels. You'll want to bring some, don't get me wrong, but you have to be more careful with it.

I dunno JK, I likes me a good Vallium suppository.

Kills a panic attack instantly when you are struggling to breath when some hippie fuck lights up some sage or pot in an enclosed space.

Some things work well up the ass.

Why not just live clean, don't put a lot of crap into your body in the first place, and you don't have to "de-tox"?

For preparation, it's proven that a few weeks of daily sauna visits (properly hydrated) will help you prep for the desert heat; although I'll bet it's not going to be the hottest year.

LOL, yea, and I've been guilty of a booty bump or two myself. But I'm not sure either of those things would classify as a "cleansing" LOLOLOL

Ha ha, I've been contemplating also getting ready for the burn. By staying up too late every night and not bathing.

I need to keep my job, though.

You should already be hydrating and eating properly.

I think I'mma gonna go get myself a double espresso machiato no fat soy milk with sugar free caramel syrup shot enema. Should help me stay up a day or two. I'll have to follow that up though with a chamomile tea enema to combat the shakes.
