EVENT: WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT

EVENT: WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT

Postby greenthumb85 » Mon Apr 12, 2010 8:26 pm

After thinking about the theme this year, one thing kept coming to mind... SUPERMAN! The man of steel who protects Metropolis City!

At high noon on burn day, around the man, we will attempt to break the world record for "The most people dressed as superman in one place"! The current record I believe is 122 people, record held by Metropolis, Illinois. Record set at their annual superman festival, but I'm sure we can get more then 122! But we'll only make it if the word gets out and people know to bring a superman costume! Doesn't have to be store bought, have fun with it, there might even be a contest for most creative superman costume! Spread the word to any burners you know! Lets claim this record for Black Rock City!

Application to guinness world records is already sent in, waiting to get approval and find out all the rules and regulations for being "dressed as superman" but record or not, it'll be fun!

Boy, That's REALLY inspired!!!!!

What an idea!

Why didn't 10,000 other people think of that????

Do your art for yourself. Stop sucking the ass of mediocrity and the lowest common denominator for the sake of being seen by others in a book or on the TV?

MOD NOTE: I turned off the humpping and puking dogs. WAYYYY too many complaints, and I am not sure if you are here to simply flame or not.

How about trying to break the record for the biggest amount of people dressed as Superman with a big fucking pickle in thier mouth ?

That shouldn't be so hard and has at least ten-fold the amount of orinality that the "Superman suit" does.

BTW, you do know that this year's "Metropolis" theme is mostly based on a really old black and white artsy silent film, NOT Superman's imaginary hometown...right ?

You haytahs are missing the real action on greenthumbs OTHER post on the topic. viewtopic.php?t=33524

Here we discuss the possibility of Guinness reps getting free ducats for observing the action and the rules on what a legal Superman costume entails.Be forewarned,do NOT forget a YELLOW belt. The officials,if they get in of course, will be observing that detail very closely.

Hate to pile on but sheesh,is this what The Project has come to?

I know the theme isn't based on superman, and I don't think it's really based on the movie either! There are so many young burners that have never even heard of the movie... Burning man themes are open to interpretation! I mean think about the "American dream" theme, cars never came to mind for me, but the streets were all car names, and then there was the giant wooden hummer art project. Or how about how some people looked at "evolution" as the evolution of society or of industry, while every one else just thought of the Darwin theory of evolution. With out some people thinking outside the box and introducing their own interpretation of the theme, we would loose out on some memorable playa experiences. Some people may think of the old movie, some people think of superman, and many others just think of large cities in general... To each their own!

And to all you haters... If you don't like my idea, then lets see what you have to offer your fellow burners this year! Put up or shut up! At least I'm organizing some kind of event. I don't have money to build anything big, or open a bar, or even to make stickers this year, so besides on playa volunteer work, this is how I'm going to contribute to my city without spending money I don't have! Is that a problem?!

Superman on the playa

Postby greenthumb85 » Wed Jun 02, 2010 9:12 am

Going for a world record for the most people in one place dressed as superman, there will be a contest with some form of prize for most creative superman costume, closest resemblance to superman (from the movies), and best home made costume.

We will meet at noon on burn day around the man... Break out the blue body suits and red capes! Spread the word, and tell your camp mates!

Guinness guidelines for the world record...

"The World Record attempt is open to men, women and children wearing a complete Superman costume consisting of a blue bodysuit, red cape, red trunks, red boots (or spats), yellow belt, and the famous red and yellow "S" logo on the chest. The costumes can either be store-bought or home made."

That is what's needed for the record, but the record is less important then the attempt to me... So lets have fun with it!

Moderator note: since this was already an open topic on the first page of 2010 Art and Performance, I merged the two topics. Note to OP: you don't get to create new threads for old topics, you're supposed to find the old one and bump it.

I think gathering for a World Record is a GREAT idea.

Chanting for World Peace or just gathering in a circle of thousands humming 'om namah shivaya' would be SO awesome.

As far as the Guinness World Record goes... could someone from the Burningman organization gift the judges from Guiness some tickets so they could verify the record?

I just get tingles thinking about a world record hum/chant.

Not meaning to yank your cape unnecessarily, but you will find that to be impossible on that time of the day.

I know they fence off the man on burn day to prep for the nights events, but we can meet around the man, it shouldn't be too hard to spot a large group dressed in bright blue and red!
