Air Conditioned Domes

Postby veleda » Tue May 11, 2010 10:37 am

Ok.. It will be my 8th year going to the burn in a tent...and it's just fucking hot.

I've seen some air conditioned domes over the years and want to try making one for our camp so we can all be somewhat cooler for naps during the day.

For those of you that have played around with this - what makes/models/designs have worked?

How much in fuel do you think it costs? etc.

I have decided this will be my swanky year at burning man.

A swamp cooler will use less power and cool almost as efficiently, the trade off is you need more water. Conditions on the playa are perfect for these types of coolers.

We ran ours in a 10 x 10 canvas tent in 08 and a 10x14 canvas last year and it worked wonderfully. It was almost chilly in there last year when it had been running for about 5 hours.

We got our at Home Depot for around $200. Its a Bonaire 626 room cooler. I'm not sure if they sell them there anymore or not. Power draw is the equivalent of running a fan.

Oh, I'm not sure how well one of these would work in a large dome. You might want to figure out rigging up a sleep room.

so do you put the swamp cooler outside the dome and then hook it up to some some of large vent tube that brings it inside?
