WHEN: 2002 Dusk, Middle of nowhere playa, friend and I walking and two guys on bikes coming right at us very very fast.
UTTERANCE: Guy A: "It's no good, I can't maneuver!"
Guy B: "Stay on target."
Guy A: "We're too close!"
Guy B: "Stay on target!"
Guy A: <shouting> "Loosen up!"
They scream by on both sides of us...
REACTION: I am immediately twelve again, grinning from ear to ear!
RESPONSE: I holler (hopefully in time for them to hear)..."it came from behind!!!

ROFL! You should have seen the time I had one of the Japanese kids ask a ranger that question. When he finally figured out what he was asking, the ranger started to get really concerned, asking if he was okay, if he had water,... I was rolling on the ground.

My first burn, I went 'searching' for the food court (I made sure to dress as a tourist). I asked one camp where it was and a chick freaked out on me, and told me that I was ruining her burn because I was so stupid. Good comedy.

My fav Playa phrase?

2002, Burn night...
I'm designated 'camp security',so I've climbed up to the top of our frontage art, to watch the man burn (and keep an eye on the neighborhood)...
Along comes a 20something asian fellow with his duffle bag and a BRC map - he has clearly just arrived (!) and is confuzzled, so I speak up from above his head..."Can I help you?"
His response " Where is everybody?"
pointing to playa..."See all the lights & fire?"
"Ohhhhh....."

poor guy, hope he had a good time!

By the fire on the esplanade, after standing there for quite a while the night the man pre-burned, staring out into the playa.

"So....where is the man anyway?"

They had driven in and seen the man as they arrived and set up camp while everything happened, without hearing about any of it.
So they knew the man was there, having already seen it.

Heard in Center Camp:

"Any one got acid?" "Any one got acid?" "Any one got acid?"

2 hours later, the same guy being held up by 2 other guys, I hear the same guy say...

I've always loved this one, from a post by Gyre on 9-28-08

"I was bored and I had some propane left"
(meaning 400-500 lbs)

'What a girl said to me late one night, after setting off a fuel air explosion over our camp with no notice.

That actually made sense to me.'

Some of my favorites that I remember (this year I'm bringing a notebook dammit)

"you know, the playa diet. It's like Atkins. With sand."

"I just had a staring contest with a frog"--said by our very timid republican virgin campmate after she had been gone way too long for a trip to the porta potties.

me: "whose tortilla is this on my tent?"
campmate: "leave it there, it's our playa tortilla warmer!"

Jellyfish-- i have a feeling I may be friends w/ the person who claimed to be a zero drama princess.
