Swing Dancing at BRC 2009 (BRCLX09)

Postby missloo12 » Fri Sep 19, 2008 2:08 pm

Hello! I know that this has been done in previous years, so I am hoping to gather all swing dance events on the Playa, or places that I could create one at! (I can maybe DJ or teach lessons if needed.)

So if you know of anything, have any ideas, or want to help... here is the place to do it :)

Then I will eventually make a facebook group for it :):)

There was a camp that did this two years ago. I looked for it last year and I don't think they were there.

There are also a few other threads on this here too.

I too think it would be a great idea.

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realised that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me.

Several years ago there was a slow dance pavilion set up on the open playa. Very cool.
These are not my fuckos.

Last time I tried swing dancing I got all tangled up in the chains. Then again, that was a good thing.

I too am a lindy hopper and BM virgin. Are there any developments with this? Any other dancers going? Anyone know if there will be good, danceable jazz anywhere?

I was just thinking...there's another thread where some Tango dancers were posting...maybe the Tango dancers and the Swing dancers can get together and share the dance floor??

Last year, i.e 2008, there was a pavilion with a live swing band and about 50-60 swing dancers dressed to the nines. I know because my friend and I met a couple from Washington who were swing dancers and we followed them to the Pavilion. Dang if I can remember where it was located, or what it was called, but I suppose that doesn't matter much.

Being there as single and no swing dancing skills... I sure do want to learn. Is it hard if u are clumsy? Can one learn while on playa?

I'm so sick of the techno banging tweaker crap that has totally ruined the playa night life!

I'd be totally down for any kind of swing, tango, salsa, cha-cha, quickstep . . . I can help with some teaching (I'm not a spectacular dancer, but I' pretty good with beginner instructions).

We helped run a BRC Lindy Exchange in 2004. Lamplighters had a swing night, our camp Sunvalley did an East Coast swing night and a third camp (I forget their name ) did a Boobie Balboa Contest. Great fun.

Last year there was a swing band in the Red nose District tent. One of the best dances I ever been to.

We not going this year, but good luck with your event!
