New For 2009: Barbie Death Village!

Dr. Pyro wrote:Hay, anybody heard when the Theme Camps/Villages start getting listed on the BM site? They're still stuck on 2008. .

Was thinking of starting my own thread on this topic but will let Dr.Pyro segue it.The good doctor knows that theme camps are sometimes treated with astonishingly little respect by The Powers That Be.

Last year was,in my mind, the best organized effort for theme camps ever. This year looks like one of the worst. To wit....

Theme Camp listings and descriptions.....Probably 3/4 of camps were already posted at this time last year thus helping attendees and potential campers get an idea of what your camp was up to and about.

Playa Events Calendar.....Last year the freaking deadline was June 15th and by this time many events were up and being promoted. In previous years you could start posting events in March. This year nothing.

Placement bulletins........Got one in early March and nothing since.

The excuse I hear is the moving of HQ but what it adds up to is another rush job on theme camps and their events that will probably culminate in a WWW Guide circa 2007. Thanks for bring this up Doc.

Z-man's absolutely correct. We all know there have been some shake ups (well, resignations actually) within the BMOrg, and that will be their excuse, uh, I mean reasoning, for any and all delays. Such is the problem with having a bunch of hippie-wannabe volunteers running an organization that begs for, well, organization. Not that they don't do a fine job. Just look how respectable, clean-cut, and courteous the DPW is. And while we're at it, everyone knows what a yoeman's job the DMV does. Oh, sorry about that. Well, I guess I'll just keep looking and hope that one day a volunteer will get it posted. Great work again, guys.

Yes it seems as though the volunteers are a sacred cow of the Burning Man Project.Although we have had positive experiences with many of them few dare complain about how this world class event is all the worse for this sort of organization.

Blah, blah, blah.......if you don't think the volunteers are doing a good enough job, go and volunteer yourself.

Stay there for a few years and then you can be in charge of something also.

Then do your best to make it work better.

Lead by example.....you know ??

You may now continue with your unregulated blah, blah, blah.....

Talk about blah blah blah. This is the standard retort when anyone dares complain.Let's get it straight. The volunteers take their cue and assingnments from someone whos IS getting paid.If there is no direction or pay incentive why bother.End result always harms the event and its participants

Personally I've always been amazed at what we manage to pull off every year. Considering that many volunteers are not professionals at what they are volunteering for and do it for the love of the event.

I volunteered in the hopes that I will be able to offer my experience with Inspection of welds and whatnot for the DMV, some time with Greeters mainly for my own good to help me be more personable, some time with PG&E since they have such dandy hoodies, and to top it off some time with Earth Guardians so I can maybe learn how to clean up after myself better. The biggest gift from volunteering is the knowledge gained and friends met. This is what I am looking forward to the most. Now if DMV would just get back to me and tell me I'm hired for no pay I'd be in perfect shape.

You are making my point also, if you go and volunteer for a few years, then you will be one of those assigning new volunteers and getting paid to do so.

if you are saying that they would do a better job if they were all getting paid, then you should be protesting the Bmorg office....wear a paper bag on your head, they like it when you do that.

BTW, just got some of that carpet from the convention center dumpster. Those rolls are frekkin huge, had to tie a sling around it with a tow-rope to get it out of there.
There are a bunch more, if you don't mind black carpet.

I don't think I'd feel right getting paid.. I would have to piss the money away on propane tanks, plumbing, etc.

I think the paper bag protest was more about the lack of medical for injured workers/volunteers. While I personally disagreed with the protest I totally understood where he was coming from and got a buch of laughs from the video.

Think ya can spare a 10x10 piece of carpet? Don't care about the color.. you get to keep the carpet afterwards.. I just like to borrow a piece for about a week or so.

I did speak with a bmorger last week and got the moving story... but you know the move had to be a "leave no trace". And the DPW had to lay out the new office streets, an artist for a new poster for the new office, and arranging all those JOTS, a center camp to staff, and a sacrificial man to burn at the old office.....

For all of you Barbiebarians and Barbiebarian-wannabees, we are close to finishing the art truck and could use your help this weekend at Ericka's. We need to get the fittings done so we can send in the picture of the very mutated vehicle to the BMOrg DMV. Let me know if you can make it. I figure Sunday and/or Monday should do it.

Have you posted a pic or sketch of it yet ?

I am too lazy to go looking by myself.

Not yet. We wanted to have it mostly finished before we submitted the photo. Considering what we went through last year with Tieland, we are not going to make that mistake again. One of our Villagemates, Tracy, came up with a cool top (oh, the art vehicle is Barbie's Mobile Whorehouse) so it stands something like 20' high and is completely covered in Barbie swag, including three My Size Barbies, one of which will be on a Barbie-sized stripper pole (about 4' high or so). Sunset Red is making three 3' X 4' "windows" with Barbie in silhouette doing unspeakable acts, and the entire vehicle will be totally tripped out in pink. If this doesn't qualify as a mutated vehicle, then I give up.

Hey Dr. Pyro!
Always loved your theme camp! I have a group of 6 people in search of a cheaper, laid back, fun camp. Can I talk to you about the possibility of joining and what that entails? Please e-mail me at skteLement@aol.com.

Thanks!

skeELEMENT, did you get my PM? Hope so.

Anyway, a handful of us got together and built this year's mutant vehicle: Barbie's Mobile Whorehouse. We are sending in the pics and discription as well as application to the nice people at the DMV in a few days. Yeah, the truck is Tieland, but you would never know it. It is MUTATED after all. Just wanted to throw a few thank you shout outs to Blowfish, Tracy, Jan, and CJ who came by to help today. Also to Ericka who is letting us trash, uh, I mean use her property to do the work. Also I want to thank Felony Arson and Buster for their previous contributions. There are way too many Barbiebarians to thank for the help, both in sending in money but also artwork to go into the truck, but Sunset Red deserves a special thank you for the windows. One has Barbie giving Ken a blowjob and in another she is taking it up the ass. God Damn It. If THAT isn't mutated enough, then what is?

And for those of you who are still thinking about asking to join or become part of Barbie Death Village, email me at james.jacoby@wellsfargoadvisors.com ASAP and we will see how it stands. We do have about 30 newbies this year, so it should be interesting!

Sail Man, we never turn down a friendly jesture. We will certainly find room for them at our little "holiday camp". But send them third class snail mail, no sense in giving the postal service penny one more than they deserve. You can mail them if you'd like to:

Doc Pyro
PO Box 173
Penryn, CA 95663

Or we could meet at Constable Jack's (when ever it is they are open) and I'll swap a cold one for some plastic ones.

Haven't I always? I mean, who's a bigger media whore on the playa than me? And have I EVER turned down anything, even Badger, that wears a skirt? Is the word "no" even in my limited vocabulary? So bring 'em on you people. The Doc is ready to dispense his own personal medicine.

JR, since most of the Barbiebarians don't read this, you might want to send an all village (reply to all) email from my last newsletter to the denizens of BDV. Of course, how many of our fellow BDC&WBers can even read? Just kidding! Let me know what you find.

BARBIE DEATH VILLAGE UPDATE #1

I want to thank Sail Man for his wonderful donation of three Barbies! They're just precious! Now they're dead. Also Little Flower for her ten Barbies. When I begin to add up all we have gotten this past winter and spring (including the three My Size Barbies from Capt. Joe) I count 22 new Barbies! Plus Joel (actually from the 3playa, where most of my peeps hang out) sent enough material to cover Barbie's Mobile Whorehouse (our art car radically mutated for this year). Still will take whatever you want to throw at me. Addy is:

Doc Pyro
PO Box 173
Penryn, CA 95663

And if any of you subgeniouses are still looking for a themecamp/village to join, send me an email at: james.jacoby@wellsfargoadvisors.com or PM me here. We have a bit of room still, assuming the BMOrg gives us what we requested. I know Dragon Pilot has his (their?) space reserved.

Is it August yet? (Shout out to Sunset Red on her adventure!)
