Root society? Opulent Temple? Thunder Dome?

Root society? Opulent Temple? Thunder Dome?

Postby xxRion » Tue Jan 13, 2009 7:27 pm

So, out on the playa in 2008, i heard some rumors that the Opulent Temple & thunder dome wont be on the playa in 2009...
is this true?

and does anyone know if the root society is going to be there? im pretty sure they will be...but not 100% sure.

i know that The Deep End wont be, which makes me really sad..because i LOVE the deep end.

anyways..even the opulent temple isnt going to be there this year, and same with Thunder Dome, Burning Man 2009 will still be AMAZING.
i just hope they are there.

I don't know about the thunderdome, but i'm pretty sure the opulent temple folks are making every effort to raise money for the 2009 burn.

as far as i know, Root Society will continue to be the 800lb Sound Gorilla at the corner of 10th and 'splade.

i've already bought my supply of Ambien and Budweiser.

we are working on decor and theme and line-up so i think that you can count on us thumping your ass in 2009.

I pulled this from the site:

For 2009, a year of evolution, (we hope), our presence at Burning Man is unclear. We will throw Opulent Temple events in which any profits made will be put in reserve in case we make enough to afford bringing our production to Burning Man. If we get the support to be there from the community, then we'll be there. If not, then we won't We are also looking into taking our production elsewhere into other settings. Check this site for info as it develops.

the awful truth, from our friends at Spock Mountain.

Filthy rich corporate sponsorships flood the playas rave scene.

DJs Live the American Dream
By Captain Winner
Publisher

As the week progresses, and more big DJ
names spin Friday and Saturday sets, a new
battle has started on the playa. Paul Oakenfold
was the first to accept big money
(reportedly $50K for a single set) to spin,
and his gold plated RV has been a fixture
on the playa for four years running. And
now other star DJs are lining up to the
raver camp trough.
Tired of hearing Oakenfolds sets at
Burning Man, Root Society opted to up
the stakes, and invited DJ Tiesto to spin
opposite Oakenfold on Friday night. Our
only problem was funding. Tiesto comes
with a pretty steep price, and apparently
hes not into the Commissary tickets and
RV sleeping space weve been able to bring
our other DJs in with, said Baron von Beat,
the lead promoter for Root Society. So, we
decided to turn to corporate sponsorship to
get him in.
When I first heard from von Beat, I told
my publicist to drop the call, but when we
heard back from the folks from the NabiscoTM
family, I was a lot more compelled
to join in on the burning of the men, said
Nabisco DJ Tiestito. I mean, say what
you want about Oakenfold, but does he
have a bag of chips with his name on it? I
didnt think so, Tiestito said as he pulled a
bag of mini-wafers from his Nascar-esque
Nabisco uniform. Plus, signing a 3-year
$12 million contract doesnt hurt, I guess. I
mean, whos the bullshit sheep fucker now,
Oakendfold?
He got what? said Oakenfold when
SSM told him about the Tiestito contract.
Call me back in 10 minutes.
So, we did. Ã’Please refer to www.google.
com/oakengoog.html for information on
to Paul OakenGoogleTMs office.
As reported on the site, OakenGoogles
contract rings in at 5 years and $20 million
and also come with a significant signing
bonus.
Though the exclusive contract was already
signed for Tiesto, von Beat decided to turn
in another direction.
When OakenGoogle signed his deal, we
needed to bring in someone bigger. Weve
lined up Fatboy SlimJimTM, to headline for
TiestitoTM, and if youve ever tried the two
together, you know that they are an amazing
pairing here on the playa, or anywhere
else a delicious snack is in order.
With the gauntlet thrown, Opulent Temple-
head Maximum Awesome started moving
in the direction of quantity over quality.
Included in the lineup for the weekend
are Krafts Vanilli Snack PackTM (of Milli
Vanilli fame), Oh Boy! Oberto GeorgeTM,
Gary Coleman Camping AmazingTM, and
AAA-RodTM.
I dont care how they sound, really. Look
at all the sweet stuff I got. I dont care how
A-rod sounds... look at the jersey and bat
that he gave me. I love baseball, was all
Max-A had to say on the subject.
Not to be completely left out (again),
the Deep End has reportedly signed on
Badger Plumbing of Gerlachs Pete Tong
to perform for their final closing set. No
one cared.
Whos going to win the battle? I cant
say, but I can tell you that the Org is really
excited about seeing how things play out,
said Burning Man LLCs voice of propaganda,
Action Grrl. Competition and
Capitalism are the true spirit behind the
American Dream theme.
I guess only time will tell.
Larry Harvey was not available for comments
because he was eating ribs, two slabs at
a time.

i hope that opulent temple raises enough money to be out on the playa this year

im happy that root society will be there, they always have rad dj's spinning..
i wanna find out the line up before burning man..or at burning man..
to see what dj's are spinning, and when..
is it possible to find that out online.. like a week or so before the B.M.09
because other than that, i just hear from my friends, or random people on the playa who is spinning and where.

but i do know, that root society HAS to have BASSNECTAR, spin this year.
he is one of my all time fav. dj's...hes a genious. seriously.
and everyone i know that goes to burning man, LOVES him.
soooo. i do believe that he should be there for sure :]

OK, all of you geekers and freakers, tweakers and peekers, ravers and flavors, twinks, dinks, kinks and finks, here's dilly-o...

you want to Camp with Root Society?

go here.....

http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuse ... =441907759

talk to the man himself, Jefr, tell him Simon of the Playa sent you.

Let me tell you, and give y'all some warning, and a word of advice.

It is a week of VERY HARD WORK....we put together, and maintain, and then tear down a MASSIVE structure set-up, plus sound system, lights, stage, chill dome and accoutrements, Silk dancing equipment, a kitchen, a bar, all of which has to be packed into TWO huge fucking 18 wheelers in Boston, and trucked to reno, and UNPACKED and then REPACKED at the end, as well as the enormous amount of Moop we collect because we are a "destination" on the playa, and receive HEAVY traffic.

we need PARTICIPANTS...it's 24/7 when you are in a big esplanade camp, there is ALWAYS something to do, someone to help, something that needs fixing or hanging or stapling or nailing, and the last one can refer to the girls in the camp, but often it's in the context of construction, not sex...

we are lucky to get set up by wed. aft. so we can blow up Wed night....by saturday, we are exhausted from hosting several nights of ear-splitting, innard re-arranging madness and on sunday, we start knocking the motherfucker down.

there is a brief moment, at 5:15 wed afternoon for 15 minutes, where we dont do anything but the drugs of our choice...thats our one break. Drink up me hearties, it's back to work for you!

now, if this hasnt scared you off, let me now tell you that we have the greatest people, from all over the globe, from all walks of life, socio-economic and otherwise.

on the playa, this is my family, and i have come to love and cherish the week when we "Re-Unionize" and come Home.

we share, we assist, we help, we hustle, as a team, as a unit, and it shows,

the Logistical Nightmare we overcome each year is enough to bond a group together, but there is more than that. It's the feeling a Chef has when he peeks out the window from the kitchen to see his guests taste, lick their lips, smile and dig in to the artwork he has just cooked up.

it's the wave, the rush a performer has when the applause starts, and they appreciate you, and your work...The Feedback, that special moment when everything is thumping just right, and there is an intangible bliss that spreads thru the crowd as a result of many peoples combined effort to basically please, and give to the denizens of black rock city.

we throw this party for you.

we just want to know you had a good time, you danced, you loved.

it's not the art thats important, it's what it DOES to people...the art, the act, the song will disappear, but your memory, and the feeling it gave you, wont.

and better than that is the inner joy you get from making other peoples burn...

sounds stupid, but what really makes my day on the playa, is really making your day.

the other thing you should know is this....Not everything is as it seems out there, and thats a good thing...Throw out your pre-conceived notions, as Larry likes to say, and Explore who you are, and others, without bias.

talk to that person who, from the outside looks like someone you normally WOULD NOT talk to....you'd be suprised at who is not what they appear to be, and you may find yourself open to things that may not have even crossed your radar until now. I for one, am actually quite shy, and burning man allows me to get in touch with my inner asshole.

hey....dont go there, i know it's a bad joke waiting to happen...

back to Root Society...

If you want to be a part of a supportive, dynamic creative and talented group, Then C'mon Down! Join us, AND GET TO THE ROOT OF THINGS.

Everything will be FINE in OUGHT NINE!

JI got a ride both ways with a Thunderdome Medic. On the way up the talk was that the core thunderdome people wanted to take a year off. On the way down there was some discussion that some other people wanted to pick up the torch.

that'll be awesome if thunder dome is there this year, but if not i can understand wanting to take a year off..
having a big theme camp like that, takes a lot of effort and time.

Either way..B.M.09 is going to be amazing.

im happy that root society will be there, i always love going there & dancing..
and i realllyyy hope that opulent temple can make it too..
if not, there is a lot of places to go dance and have a good time..
:]

when i spent time at the involuntary work spa in Lovelock, and as i waited to go Home to Rochester NY, it never dawned on me until a much later google search that there was a ghost town, called rochester, nv. just 5 miles east of i-80 near lovelock.

it was there all the time, within spittin' distance.

I WAS close to home, in more ways than one, but did'nt know it.
