Barbarian Camp

Barbarism is the natural state of mankind. Civilization is unnatural. It is the whim of circumstance. And barbarism must always ultimately triumph.

I'm sorry, did you say 'barbarism' or 'Barbarellaism' is the natural state of man?

Wasn't that originally said by Robert E. Howard when he was writing the Conan stories...?

Who was that in the video-- I actually kind of like it. (I've got a soft spot for bagpipes, probably in my head! )

I thought you and "World Power Foundation" were ready to strap on your broadswords...

BAS, that's taken directly from one of the Conan stories by REH. I'll cook you a bison steak on the playa if you can tell me which yarn.

That was Corvus Corax. If you got any heathen noisemakers, bring them along. Don't feel that you need to play them well. Who really does anyway?

Well, I got to admit I recognized it from reading Robert E. Howard's biography ("Dark Valley Destiny" I believe it was called.) Somehow I have missed reading his stories-- some day I should rectify that deficiency. (I think that during my prime fantasy reading time they were out of print.)

The biography was really interesting-- apparently he wrote a lot of books during his short life. Also, he and H.P. Lovecraft had quite a debate about fascism in their correspondence-- Lovecraft for and Howard against. It still seems rather weird to me that the creator of Conan committed suicide because he couldn't face life without his mother-- then again, it has been speculated that Conan was more based on his father then REH.

I'm still curious about who that band in the video was.

We regret that we will not be joinin the burn this year. Of course we are involved in the executive transition team for the slavation of us all.

I am not sure if I should be disappointed.

Anyway, I'll have some stuff available pretty soon about barbarian music. Does Overtone Series mean anything to you?

Here's a simple flute that uses exclusively overtones.

No matter how many of these you make - as long as they are the same length - they will always play in harmony!

Natural horns play from the same principle.

This is not the artificially imposed Pythagorean scale, but is uses fundamental harmonics, like a bird's syrinx.

Oooops! You did answer me, and I missed it! Sorry about asking again!

I don't know as I have any heathen noisemakers at present, but my work schedule precludes my making it to BM any time in the next ten years, anyway. (If I switch jobs, maybe I can make it before I retire...! How likely I am to switch depends upon a lot of factors-- too many to go into.)

Thanks for the info!

Hmmm, I guess that would make me an Agnostic Noisemaker, since people have asked me to STOP singing on more than one occasion! (Maybe that is why I like bagpipes...? )

I suggest you start with The Dark Man and his short stories and go on to Bran Mak Morn.

I recommend the Lester Dent Doc Savage books too.
Just because.

I`m assuming that "Barbar"ians would want to have a bar, or 2 perhaps.
Something other than the common alcohol swilling dens of iniquity that proliferate BurningMan already, ...of course.

...No. Wait. That would be perfect.
