I smelled pot quite alot, both out on the playa and walking the streets, mostly at night.

How did I know it was pot? I, er, um, ahem, you know, just surmised it was pot. Yeah, thats it...

That smell might have been our new line of Hemp incense and cologne/perfume. You like?

1. We don't hang around the large art/party cars or the rave/dance tents. This seems to be where MOST of the LEO action happens

2. We don't smoke pot and if we smell it, we go in the opposite direction...FAST.

3. If we do decide to party, we are very discrete about it.

4. If we sense that there is any type of trouble in a crowd such as a fight or drug bust, again, we head in the opposite direction.

Burning Man is really all about the art for us. If we really want to party our brains out, we can go do that in much more comfortable climes when we get back to the default world!

Humm chocloate... short story... had a female chp officer with her head in the drivers window who mentioned that she was getting a whiff of something when I told her it was probably the new hemp cologne that my wife had given me for my birthday. I have seen a lot of cops mistake patchouli, vanilla, practically anything for pot.
Some of the new exotic plants don't smell like anything I've ever smelled before.

One of the other guys rolled his own legal cigs. Once the noncoms and our butter bar got used to him doing that, he switched tebacky on them

Officer Ted!

Postby uncle sticky » Tue Sep 23, 2008 5:29 pm

By the way, the burly BLM cop with the brush cut and mustache running in Tristans' picture is officer Ted. He showed up at a rafting party we throw over Fourth of July, with four cars, two dogs, and up to ten officers. For a holiday weekend beer bash and river float, fewer than 80 people. They stayed all weekend, searching, harassing, ticketing folks for music, illegal gathering, etc, etc,. Aside from a couple of people who showed up early, no cites for drugs, but TEd kept right after it, telling me he knew we had narcotics. He ran his damn dog through my camp, a friends car, all over our little island, and nothing!

He was flown in from San Diego special for our little party in a small town in Idaho, based on his expertise in Burning Man related events. This party is not a burner event, although several of us are, obviously, burners.
The handbasket to hell is leaving. Hop in world!

Find out what Officer Ted's Little Party cost and who.
Start preparing press releases and include details about the idiots that sent him.
People have been laughed out of jobs before.

Start talking to attorneys and see if you have a tidy little official oppression case going here.
Complain and expose him to politicians, press, the public, etc.
Consider even a short youtoob docko.
Contact people who are interested in this sort of misbehavior.
Send information to every attorney in San Diego.
A cop with no credibility on the stand is just someone who brings coffee for other cops.

The rainbow people are typically treated like this.
They may have some good advice.

If you need any help writing up the press releases, email me.

He may be more cartoon character than cop when it's over.

Don't forget tourist and chamber of commerce areas.
The tourist industry loves cops that damage their area and they know how to complain.

antim is missing the point

Postby epic » Tue Oct 07, 2008 3:31 am

AntiM wrote "On the other hand, those of us who choose not to do drugs for whatever reason had a wonderful time with no fear of being busted."
WRONG! The cops don't respect anyone's rights and obeying the law is no defense from harassment. LEOs mere presence in large numbers staring at you is intimidating and confrantational. When all BM attendees are looked at as potential criminals, which they are, LE walks all over everyone. Illegal searches and detentions are very common.
The laws are broadly enough written that at some point all of us are unknowingly breaking some obscure rule. You can get detained and written a ticket at any time for virtually any reason. Sure you might win if you drive back to Northern Nevada to appear in court. If you don't believe me see this: http://lawyersforburners.com/site/ http://lawyersforburners.com/site/

Thats half of BRC! If you skip all that you may as well skip the entire event! This is another example of rationalizing and excusing police abuse of power, which BMORG excels at. Ie, brownnosing the cops. There is no appeasing LE.

Bummer

Postby Screener » Sun Dec 28, 2008 3:55 pm

My wife and I have planned to attend Burning Man for many years. We have heard so much about it from our friends who have participated in the past. The tickets go on sale in a few weeks and so we went to the website to see what it was like.

Our first thread to read on the board was this one about crime stats and arrests. We are now losing our interest in taking the time and expense to attend if we are going to be hassled by drug users and police protecting them from themselves and others. We are also concerned by the number of thieves and rapists that are reportedly lurking at BM.

If we wanted this atmosphere, we'd just drive to the crack neighborhoods in our own town and be done with it. We don't drive through those neighborhoods, for good reason. And, now it looks like we will be setting ourselves up for more problems than we want to deal with if we attend Burning Man.

What a shame that a few potheads think that they have the right to break the laws and subject everyone else to their stupidity. It does however look as if we waited too long to attend and now it has gotten out of hand and is too late to recover.

I agree that the drug users should move on to another location, far, far away. California is a good choice! And leave the Burning Man event for those who want to celebrate the reality of life - drug free!

I'd love to hear comments from others that might paint a better picture of life on the Playa - sans drug addicts, camp thieves and rapists.

I don't think the event is for you or your wife. Save your money and go to the county fair.

Wow, what an angry group this is. Why is it that a few bad apples choose to screw things up for everyone else? I thought BM was supposed to be a non-violent, peaceful gathering of like-minded individuals.

And now this?

dobt thats gonna happen. burning man is meant to be an idealistic totl freedom. when the LEOs make dug busts, they are stepping beyond the line of why they are there in the first place. They should not be there to bust people for drugs, but rather for being able to professionally break up any dsturbances beyond the ranger's control.

besides, many people belive that some drugs can help make art and music much more enjoyable. If anything, alcohol consumers should be rejected. (not really tho  )

On Second Thought...

Postby Screener » Sun Dec 28, 2008 5:32 pm

I researched the profiles of the past few posters and found that they are all retired old men, with nothing more to do than to log onto eplaya and post thousands of comments each. Nothing like nothing to do!

Before you get your Depends up your crack, I am retired as well, but I do have a life outside of eplaya. I was hoping for some good, solid information and look what I got.

dang, you may have visited the wrong website.....

Burning Man is about Cabalistic Cannibals, charred flesh and thunderdome.........the real one...........

the highlight being picking the dozen or so "newbies" to be ensconced in a "Wicker Man", and, well........er..........

Is this your first time out?
